The Iowa State Fair will run from Thursday, August 8th through Sunday, August 18th this year. The “Wine Experience” includes, grape stomping, kids grape activities, display vineyard, equipment display, wine tasting, music and informational speakers and will again be housed in and around Grandfather’s Barn. The Iowa Wine Growers Association Wine & Cheese Garden is now located under the shade trees to the west of the barn. There will be wine, cheese and live music each evening. Under the shade trees on top of the hill next to Grandfather’s Barn. 1 All volunteers will receive a free entry and parking pass. No experience is necessary. There will be three working shifts each day: 9 a.m. to 1:30 a.m. 98 shifts left to fill 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. INTERESTED in having a GOOD TIME and getting in FREE to the Iowa State Fair. Results from the Mid-American Wine Competition – Ankeny, IA The 2013 Mid-American Wine Competition was held July 12-14, 2013, in Iowa, and focused only on the wines of the Midwest. he competition is open only to commercial wineries of Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee, and Wisconsin. There will several “hands-on” experiences during which you will sample and evaluate all aspects of the ripening grape…pulp, skins, and seeds. We encourage you to bring grape samples from your vineyard, ideally picked the same morning, for evaluation.
