Sunday, May 24, 2020 3: This 3rd race field might run fairly early on this 11- RACE 1 : 8 – 9 – 7 – 3 race Sunday at Gulfstream Park, but make don’t make a mistake, this high level allowance race is standalone event. Both quality and prior stakes form run very deep here in a : 2 – 3 – 7 – 10 cast led by Temple, Renaisance Frolic and the returning Seismic Wave. I put a lot of stock in to Temple’s recent GP turf form for trainer Mike Maker and like him for the ‘w’ with RACE 3: 4 – 5 – 6 – 7 Cristian Torres riding. Renaissance Frolic has had a very admirable career too, with a record of 6-0-2 from 23 starts. I thought trainer David Fawkes did a real nice job with this Paynter gelding over the years but Renaisance Frolic returns RACE 4: 4 – 2 – 3 – 6 to GP – he also makes his five-year-old debut Sunday afternoon – with trainer Saffie Joseph Jr. in tow. Renaisance Frolic is very flexible as far as tactics go and that is a trait I’ve RACE 5: 12 – 4 – 3 – 11 always admired about him: he can make his own luck and pull the trip he wants. Victor Lebron, who has quietly ridden well here over the last few weeks, has the mount from post 6. RACE 6: 2 – 6 – 5 – 4 Seismic Wave capped a 3-1-1 from nine starts 2019 campaign with a mild upset victory in Belmont’s English Channel Stakes last Oct. This one-run closing Tapit colt is talented – and really excelled over the Gulfstream turf in the RACE 7: 4 – 5 – 1 – 2 beginning of his three-year-old season with two perfect victories – but I wonder if he’s going to need a race off the layoff for Hall of Fame trainer Bill Mott. RACE 8: 3 – 2 – 9 – 1 Race 4: Speaking of Mott, his blue chip operation sends out Grand Cru Classe, a first-time starting Bernardini filly, in the 4th race. An original $137k yearling purchase, Grand Cru RACE 9: 6 – 3 – 4 – 5 Classe brought a winning bid of $335k at Fasig Tipton’s Midlantic Sale last May – she worked a quarter mile in 22 4/5 seconds. Grand Cru Classe is the third foal from an unraced Lemon Drop Kid dam in Christmas Lass, who herself owns a RACE 10: 5 – 12 – 2 – 7 very strong Edward P. Evans family. Christophe Clement also sends out a key firster in , a Street Sense filly with plenty of quality in her female family. Mumbai’s dam RACE 11: 7 – 8 – 1 – 3 won five races sprinting over the dirt and Mumbai is related Post Time 12:45 ET to six winners. In fact, the majority of her siblings have won Jackpot Rainbow 6: Races 6-11 multiple races. I expect a big effort first out here Sunday.
