Question 12. The parish newsletter is a valuable source of information. A regular parish event, such as Wistanswick Fete, benefits the community. Any ideas to improve the community spirit

 To support all areas of the parish who are also trying to benefit the community  Parish Website  Difficult this one for Eaton-upon-Tern - no pub, no shop and no village hall. The last community event was the 2000 millennium party. A village fete and Guy Fawkes night may be possible  Monthly quizzes in Village Hall. Regular dances (seasonal) in village hall - ballroom, barn, country dancing - to attract a wider age group. Sports teams - parish cricket/football. Indoor sports competitions at Maurice Chandler (badminton, bowls, tennis)  Make more contact with church newsletters  Any major event during Christmas, Easter or Summer that brings all villages within the Parish together. We would be very interested in meeting others in the Parish.  An annual Christmas Fair in Stoke on Tern village hall  Carol Singing/Mince Pie Evening  Lets have more events in Childs Ercall Village Hall. We have nothing in Eaton on Tern and we should try and get the community here to participate. Stoke on tern hall is too far away from us to attract people to go.  Get more young people on the committees  Perhaps a community run shop/post office similar to that of Cheswardine might be the answer  Vintage machinery show like last year in David Moore’s field.  Using village halls for events such as Health fairs, local poultry shows, psychic fairs, craft fairs, local produce, antique fairs, valuing  Stoke on Tern fete  Activities such as Litter Picking would encourage a pride in the area. Bonfire & Fireworks party. Social events at the Red Lion  There appears to be very limited support for events. St Peters periodically puts round leaflets with very little take up. The Red Lion remains the hub of village life for those that want e.g. community events etc.  Barn dances like the ones that used to be held .

Other, please specify

 Less electricity poles which spoil the village  Organise a parish clean up of all the fly tipping. Do it in Nov/Dec when it is visible  Too much street lighting would be intrusive. Wild flowers planting is a very difficult art. Flower displays would have to be maintained; otherwise very untidy.  Remove empty bins from roadsides  flowers - this would be lovely however would be wrecked by local groups  Dog waste bins, signs to warn people against letting their dog foul  Ban on HGVs in Country Lanes  Copy of parish map (inc footpaths) mounted in permanent form in each village/hamlet  In relation to Q13, road signs. It appears that hedges are allowed to grow/not trimmed. This obscures the sign.  Any recycling facilities would encourage vandalism and untidiness  Allocated community hall/area within each village or hamlet Eaton upon Tern has nothing  Reduction in HGV through villages or improved road widths and paths  Dog fouling bins and signs to stop the mess round the village Depends where the money comes from or is diverted from

Issue

1= Dog Fouling, 2= Flooding, 3= Traffic, 4= Illegal dumping, 5= Noise, 6= Street Lighting

 6. Street Lighting non existent on Dutton Close  Wistanswick village verges  2. Eaton - Childs Ercall road often floods in about 3 places close to Childs Ercall. 3. Trucks or pick ups often travelling too fast same road 4. Fly Tipping, occasional, same road  Motorcross (motorcycles) sessions which cause nuisance and noise in this relatively quiet rural area.  3. Around school junction on bends by Red Lion.  6. Dutton Close  2. Rosehill Road filled in verge ditches.  3. Continuing speed, size of lorries using the road, increasing size of farm vehicles, huge tyres erode verges.  6. Langley Dale street lights keep blowing  In Wistanswick you can not walk round the village there is dog mess everywhere.  Eaton upon Tern - through traffic STILL not complying to 30mph speed limit at school runs its dangerous  Walking/cycling to school.  3= Eaton upon Tern.  4= At the halfway bend area of road between Childs Ercall and Eaton upon Tern. 5= Off road motor biking from Parrys/Bacon Hall Farm  Fly tipping on Eaton Road (near Childs Ercall).  No lighting at Dutton Close  6. Stoke Heath - what lighting?  Speed of traffic through Eaton upon Tern.  Illegal dumping common between Eaton upon Tern and Childs Ercall at the corner past the warehouse units  Tyres and non metal scrap along Hatton Road  2. Chapel Bank & Back Road in Wistanswick  3. Warrant Road needs a speed limit 30mph.  4. Litter and rubbish etc on roadside etc  Many of the public footpaths are used by many dog owners as dog toilet areas! 3. Our lanes are not suitable for the size and weight of vehicles using the airfield - weight restriction..  4. Airfield layby between Eaton and Childs Ercall  Dutton Close would be improved even with a few street lights. 5. Music events limited by time  Flooded roads e.g. Ollerton Lane near SOT Primary School  Reduce speed through all villages on B roads  Excessive heavy vehicles using Rose Hill Road and Station Road. Damaging roads and verges  2. Road outside CE Church, also corner on Ollerton/Sotre Road. 4. Dumping of tyres at Childs Ercall Airfield on various verges in parish  3, 5, 6. My comments relate to Eaton-upon-Tern only. The traffic is very heavy and noisy at times every day. It is unsafe to walk in the lanes. The street lighting is inadequate and only illuminates the centre of the Hamlet. The speed restriction does not go far enough - it should include the roadway past Bradeway and Brookhill where there is a considerable bend and speeding takes place continually.  3. Lorries coming through Eaton.  4. On the airfield.  Excessive speed of traffic down Rosehill Road, also Junction of chapel Lane joining Rosehill Road - corner needs urgent attention - road all broken up  All ticked. Riverside Drive and opposite both sides of road.  Dutton Close. Cat fouling Dutton Close  3. Road between A41 and A53 Hodnet bypass through Stoke on Tern and Wistanswick. No footpaths and blind corners. Traffic going on 'ratruns' between main roads.  5. Helicopters and gliders  3. Around the local primary school and heavy traffic along Ollerton Lane from Ollerton Business Park and Moto X activities (roads too narrow for type of traffic)  4. Dumping of litter, coming off the Hodnet bypass towards the church all along that road mainly fast food packaging  I asked secretary 5 yrs + ago for dog bins we still haven't got any. People move out here to have more room to exercise their dogs. They forget to help keep it clean  3. Traffic from the prison Junction onto Warrant Road, they leave that drive way like idiots. The corners of the junction need REMOVING!  2. Flooding from Eaton on Tern into Child's Ercall Road. Generally excess water does not appear to be able to flow off into the fields. Maybe drainage ditches have not been maintained at the roadside or flattened by large heavy traffic  5. Motor mowers at weekends  3. HGV's travelling through Eaton upon Tern.  Large wide farm machinery drive too fast, the speed limit through the village is not adhered to!. Large lorries ignore not suitable signs!  Poor lighting from Ivy Barn up the side lane! Pitch black and dangerous at night!! (for us dog walkers)  5. Loud music in Langley Dale - especially on warm days. This is not as bad as last year though  Big lorries using Rosehill Road as a cut through, going fast enough to shake my house! Most traffic still speeding despite new signs  2. Eaton to Childs Ercall Road.  Through Eaton to B&Q site and ignoring speed limit through Eaton. Rumble strips and warning signs required.  3. Warrant Road - speeding  3. Heavy lorries travelling to old airfield  3. Around the school  3 & 4 Ollerton Lane  3. A41 Sweet Apple Tree - Crickmerry crossroads.  6. Only 3 streetlights between red lion pub and the A41.  2. Rosehill Road - poor drainage in places.  3. HGVs can be a problem on narrow lanes - lorry route? 4. Not so much dumping - more general litter.  6. No more please  Speeding (Bryn Cottage corner).  6. Very poor Wistanswick  Rosehill Road 30mph not working 60-70 mph is common. Rosehill Rd is main road to Ollerton Industrial development which is needed for jobs but the straight Rosehill Rd is being abused.

Question 19. Other anti-social behaviour

 Erection of barbed wire on boundary fence as a cat deterrent  Litter being thrown out of vehicles onto country roads.  Driving at an inappropriate speed for Langley Dale (this has only started happening since the Council put a 30mph speed limit up) this means forward and reversing. People not keeping their front gardens in good condition.  Having lived in a major city this area is paradise.  Speed limit needed on Dutton Close  Off road motor biking from Parry's/Bacon hall Farm  Litter on lanes and roads especially drink bottles, crisp packs and cigarette packets  Use of firearms from passing cars into hedges and fields presumably to shoot pigeons  Verbal abuse  Litter being thrown out of car windows. Vehicles encroaching on verges.  Farming vehicle too big for the lane they make a mess of our verges and leave mud everywhere makes the village look at mess - not good  Dumping is constantly happening outside the gate to our other field. We either have to burn or take it to the tip.  Frequent gathering of youths at bus stop at Langley Dale - drinking, smoking drugs, smashing glass, smashing tiles on bus stop roof, foul language, grafitti throughout the bus shelter. Not what you want young children to see/hear. Also intimidating for the elderly. I have to commend the council on the speedy response to clearing off grafitti in the bus stop - thank you! They were great when we reported it.  Teenagers opening gates and letting out horses. Cost me over £1000 in vet fees for 1 horses injuries  Littering along Warrant Road.  Occasional fast cars. Littering. Horse manure in road.  Speeding traffic from Sweet Appletree to Stoke on Tern. 2. Villages generally trouble free. 3. Always tins/cigarette packets/litter round bus stop.  Speeding traffic very high speeds in 30 mph zone. Need to physically slow traffic on Rosehill Road

Question 20. Stoke Camp on Warrant Road has been acquired by TAFS. They have asked for suggestions for development of the site from the local community. Please give ideas for the site if the existing buildings remain:

 Small letting garages for local people to do cars or just to store things or paintball area. Load of good places to go.  A local shop. Meeting Place  Not enough information on TAFS ideas  Outward bound type facility  Paint ball, Quasar  Something to bring work into this area  Why would a business acquire a site like this without knowing what to use it for?  Give you off cuts to the old locals free (fire wood)  Golf club or play area  Landscaping to blend in with local environment with wild flowers/trees. Maybe beehives to sustain honeybee population, as some local breweries have done.  Industrial units  RAF museum e.g. Eden Camp in North Yorkshire  This holds a wealth of wildlife currently owls, bats and newts etc. They need to be protected.  Small rural businesses - farm shop, crafts etc.  Heritage site/museum  Light industrial units  Small, light engineering units, storage facilities  Whatever the outcome it wants to be screened as this could be a potential fire hazard  Retirement village for over 50's  More tree planting  Let for business use  I think the existing buildings are not suitable for anything; they look very shabby  Starter units for new firms. Research and development 'arm’s length' units for existing outside firms  Playground  Local shops ie General Store, craft shops, local produce stores  Small business starter units  Presumably TAFS operating own business from site. Landscape entrance - existing buildings are an eyesore.  Tourist attraction

Question 21. Please give ideas for the site if the existing buildings were demolished

 Housing Development (including affordable)  Housing. Workshops  Housing with 40% affordable  Housing - affordable with shop  Return to agriculture. Parish playing field  Play area, small local shop, allotments  A community gathering area. Allotment etc. A community garden - teaching children how to grow their own vegetables etc.  Paint balling was a great idea! Something to help train people skills i.e. Plumbing/Electric/building  TAFS to replicate their company's activities or provide chalet type buildings for cheap housing  Low cost housing for 1st time buyers especially  Housing  No Housing. Kids want pool.  Go kart track  BMX bike track, skate park, nature area, duck pond etc  Maybe an allotment area for children/families with managed wildlife areas to encourage a respect for their local environment.  Industrial units or small housing development  Affordable housing. Nursing home  Wildlife plant more trees and create a pond. They have already removed mature trees.  Activity site for children/teenagers or affordable housing for local people or with local connections. All generations old and young  Local amenities such as a shop, post office, cash point and pub or community building where residents can meet and a park  Units for starter businesses  Affordable Housing. Adventure Playground. Studios for small businesses. Go Kart track  Green field  Housing and apartments - low cost for first time local people  A garden centre would be useful  Landscaped area, sheltered accommodation. Social area/club  A garden centre would be very welcome as we have none in the area  Good quality houses with shop and pub  Affordable housing  Small businesses and recycle places  Licensed social club for evening entertainment, parties etc. Day use for community activities etc. Social gardens or play park, picnic area, pond etc. Dog walking wooded area.  Cheaper housing for young families  Garden centre. Driving Range/9 hole golf. Health Club - pool, gym, cafe etc  Mixed tenure housing with nomination rights % for Parish Council - to cater for incomers buying-in and local young families to rent (or shared ownership with Housing Association). With social room/shop  Don't do anything to them  Playground  Nature Reserve  Low cost housing. Housing for the elderly  Small business starter units  With good access to A41, it could be used for housing or a small business park - suitably landscaped  Nature Reserve

Question 22. Please use this space to make any further comments on issues not covered by this questionnaire or to expand on your answers from previous questions.

 Litter - I see no evidence that there is any council initiated litter picking. I was so appalled at the state of the country roads around Eaton that I personally cleaned them up, filling multiple sacks (proof of council inactivity). Now that Eaton to Childs Ercall is clear I try and keep it that way, but new litter is almost a daily occurrence. From Childs Ercall to Howle is a disgrace (even if it is outside the parish).  Stoke on Tern Primary School is one of the parish's biggest assets with parents bringing their children from surrounding areas and Market Drayton. However travel facilities to the school, especially from Tern Hill are almost non existent apart from St Peters fantastic minibus and Carol Folkards continued effort and goodwill. She is unable to do more even with the demand. Also as with many rural schools numbers are falling and if the parish want to keep the school they MUST encourage younger families into the area. This is where affordable housing comes in!  Q16. Green burial ground could be created. Q8 - Using the school in the evening poses many problems - caretaking duties and key holder responsibility, security (alarms), security of in school equipment - computers, materials, books etc), insurance premiums (damage/theft). Q10- a larger community may ensure viability of existing facilities - school, village halls, sports centre, church.  Q15. 3 Tipping; people on their way to or from Pennell’s scrap yard are dumping tyres and fridges etc at an alarming rate. The amount of traffic using the village as a short cut to Hodnet Bypass speeding through the main road of Wistanswick I feel is a real problem it's a wonder that there hasn't been an accident involving walker and cyclists with cars my kids always want to cycle to school but when I have taken them by cycle I don't feel that I or my children are safe.  Greater attention to road sweeping, road drainage grids, verge maintenance, grass cutting especially in rural areas where there are no footpaths. Encourage people to improve their own lives instead of throwing council tax payers money at futile and fatuous exercises, like arranging to help people change their TV format for 2011 when there are plenty of people they could ask for advice without charge. Most old people have families that have the responsibility to help them out if they are in difficulties with anything and those who haven't can always ask a neighbour for advice or help. It's called civilisation!  Infill should be allowed on Rosehill Road  Eaton upon Tern residents to be advised of events/social at Child's Ercall facilities and possibly use venues for themselves in absence of facilities at Eaton upon Tern. And also Stoke on Tern hall facilities.  We have lived here for nearly 2 and a half years and love the friendliness and warmth of the Parish. However we feel a little disenfranchised from the Stoke on Tern parish and would like some village focused events that enabled us to meet each other. This is a much welcome questionnaire and we hope there will be more interaction with us in the future. Kindest regards.  As a resident of Eaton upon Tern, I am concerned about the continual building of homes in what was peoples’ garden. This seems to be total profiteering on behalf of the people applying for planning permission. Can they not see that long term it will reduce the price of their properties and also ruin the village. If you can as councillors please put a stop to this, before it is too and the Village is ruined forever.  I would like to see the speed limit reduced on Warrant Road, I have seen numerous vehicles of all shapes and sizes speeding down the road. Some vehicles are travelling so fast if a child or animal went onto the road, it would be fatal. I think a 30 to 40 mph is needed urgently.  I chose to live in a rural area to enjoy what the countryside has to offer and want to protect our open spaces for future populations and all wildlife. If people feel the need for further amenities and street lighting then quite simply they should live in an urban area, or visit the existing surrounding amenity areas of which there are many. I think there should be a time restriction on when machinery should be used as in many EU countries - lawnmowers etc. Call me a Grumpy Old Woman but, the countryside should be a place to hear the birds, relax and listen to the birds etc. We accept we live in a rural and farming community but it doesn't have to be 'too tidy a community'.  Ability for long term residents of the parish to build new homes on their own land to remain in the parish  Council members need to be able to meet and greet the members of the public/residents. (Would we know them if we passed them in the street?). The notice board on Dutton Close needs to be locked as notices are removed and thrown onto the footpath!  I would very much like local houses to be put on the mains drainage  We feel that the 30mph speed limit down Rosehill Road is unwarranted. It should be that by the school, but the rest of Rosehill Road should be 40mph minimum. A later bus into Market Drayton/Wellington would be very useful e.g. 8pm there and midnight return. It would be nice to have the parish magazine delivered or to a suitable pick up point, even if we paid for it e.g. 50p.  The hedges and verges should be cut more frequently.  I feel Eaton on Tern is too far removed from Stoke on Tern, and therefore we do not get looked at sympathetically when issues arise which affect our village. We are two totally different parishes that really have nothing in common. It would make far more sense for us to come under Childs Ercall, as we are so close, and have common issues which affect us, and probably will have in the future as well. Stoke on Tern is completely detached from us, in terms of miles, and issues that affect them, do not relate to us and vice versa.  Kerb stones along the length of Rosehill Road to prevent traffic mounting the verges - thus making it unsafe for pedestrians. 30 years ago I was able to walk the children to school, today it’s impossible - even to walk the dog. Speed of traffic makes it unsafe.  I feel that this parish has got its share of individual sites: Namely the prison and gypsy/TAFFS/Rosehill Ind/Army Barracks/Ollerton Business Park are just a few without the need for affordable homes added. What about the sewage facilities costs. Surely this cost would be more beneficial given to those parishioners who have septic tank facilities and have paid their council tax (in full) who have in some cases got no street lighting/footpaths who keep their places well kept and tidy. Affordable homes are for who? Outsiders or villagers or others?  I don't see any need for cameras on A41 or the constant maga paint on roads this paint is constantly a danger to motorcyclists it has not been tested for motorcycles for anti slip. And if the tips weren't charging so much there wouldn't be so much fly tipping.  There are a large number of bright orange steel containers that form a 'way' outside the warehouse building currently being used by B&Q on the approach to Eaton on Tern from Childs Ercall. It is beginning to look like a very busy commercial enterprise and the lack of screening from the road in my opinion is spoiling the countryside look to the area. Could we at least ask the owner to plant some trees that will form a screen in the future?  Dog fouling within Wistanswick needs to be addressed. Bins and signs with fines need to be erected within the village. The speed of traffic through the village is alarming and dangerous at times - especially the bend in Wistanswick by Red Lion pub - accident waiting to happen!! Large farm vehicles drive far too fast - along narrow lanes around the village and cause damage. Larger lorries ignore unsuitable signs and have caused damage to my property and steps. Lighting around village is very poor in places when one needs to walk at night.  How wonderful to see this questionnaire! Maybe more of this would create more community spirit and lessen the anti-social behaviour which has been making us question raising our family in the locality. Parents should do more to keep a check on local youths and keep them busy/entertained - take them to Maurice Chandler for example. The church is wonderful! Every community activity we have attended has been organised by people from the church. Thank you. We've met some wonderful people. It's a shame living here is occasionally marred by the selfish few. Speed limits for the road through Stoke on Tern should be brought in. Cars race through at very dangerous speeds - very dangerous pulling out of roads, drives and walking/cycling with children  Eaton upon Tern is 5 miles away from Stoke on Tern. I work in so I never go to Stoke on Tern except on polling day! I do think it is poorly served by Stoke Parish but this is partly because Eaton residents are not very interested in events in Stoke. It would be wonderful to have adult education classes in Eaton but there is no community centre!  Too many business advertising signs on Warrant Cross roads and lamp posts, trees etc. They are distracting and unsightly on public verges  The parish should strongly object to the planning application for the waste management facility on the airfield, due to traffic implications and any future applications involving such traffic  The area presently has no village shop/post office. Could use be made of village hall or pub/hotel for occasional/limited hours community shop.  The hardest thing for Wistanswick is to establish a village identity and a community feeling both of which have become more apparent in recent years. Hard to pinpoint reasons. Whilst the pub is very much a local attraction the lack of a shop cum post office, church and play/playground facilities are contributory factors. For all these one has to travel to nearby villages. The current population is very diverse so there is no obvious, overall compatible solution. Two working parents makes life difficult e.g. time to become involved in village affairs.  1. Traffic to the Ollerton Storage depot has caused problems between the school and storage area. The verges are dangerous and the frequency of HGV usage is worrying. 2. The 30mph speed limit from the school at Stoke on Tern up to KEV & dis (can't read writing) covers too great a distance. This should be shortened, or made a 40mph limit for the majority of the present distance.  Speeding traffic is serious. Traffic is using the Stoke on Tern roads rather than use the Hodnet By Pass  Building large houses on small plots, drainage issues around Wistanswick with all new properties. Overhead electricity cables - a blot on the landscape. They should be underground in this day and age. 'Good enough' is not an excuse for eyesores!!
