Technical Specifications

A)CNC Lathe: Quantity 6 Nos.

1.1. Lathe:

Length between centers: 390-410 mm Height of centers: 80-90 mm Maximum work piece diameter: 100 mm Minimum work piece diameter: 2mm or less Machine base: Cross-ribbed surface, high-quality cast iron with ground prismatic guide, must be capable to readily adopt milling/drilling attachment.

Spindle: Oversized main spindle, supported with adjustable taper roller bearings Spindle drill hole: In the range of 15-25 mm Spindle concentricity: Max. 5/1000 mm Chuck: RÖHM-3 jaw chuck as per DIN 6386 or equivalent, centrically clamped,100 mm diameter Run out without chuck: Max. 1/100mm Sleeve receiver: retractable sleeve with scale Spindle speeds: Must be adjustable with switch and by the drive belt. Switch setting 1: 80 / 330 / 1400 rev/min Switch setting 2: 160 / 660 / 2800 rev/min Motor rating: Input 850W to 880W, Output 540W to 560W Motor type: Induction motor, Single phase 230 V Size: Not more than (L x D x H) 915 x 407 x 305 mm Weight (complete): Less than 60 kg

1.2. Drives of the tool axes

Spindle drive Z axis: Stepping motor 1.8A, holding torque 50Ncm Traverse path: 290 - 310mm

Spindle drive X axis: Stepping motor 1.8 A, holding torque 50Ncm Traverse path: 65 - 75mm

Activation of stepping motors: Through CNC control unit (Must be included in scope of supply)

Power supply: Mains unit, output 35V (Must be included in scope of supply) INDIAN INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY BOMBAY Materials Management Division For IIT Dharwad

1.3. Software and stepping motor controllers Brief description of software and hardware: The software is harmonized with mechanics, motors and the control unit of the CNC machine, thus to offer the optimum performance.

The CNC control unit controls the step motors of the machine. The PC software provides the machine with the geometry information for travel of the tools (via RS 232 interface). This means that the control unit is the interface between software and the mechanics of the machine.

Two freely usable output relays in the casing of the control unit provide facilities for control of additional functions, e.g. a working lamp. Including connection cables with suitable plugs and built-in power supply for connection to 220 - 240V.

Simple creation of work piece geometry The CAD window is displayed when the programme starts. The work piece contour is created in the familiar WINDOWS® environment.

Numerous auxiliary aids help during programme operation, which supports both coordinate entry (absolute and relative) in addition to mouse use.

Technology information is to be allocated to every drawing element. This makes, for example, different processing speeds and manual tool replacement possible.

Read-in of existing files in .dxf or equivalent format is possible as well.

Automatic generation of CAM data The finished drawing of the tool is converted, by a mouse click, into the instruction set for the machine. So, machining can be started immediately. The instruction set generated in this way is in accordance with DIN/ISO 66025 or equivalent and can be manually edited and exported. Conversely, the system also permits importing or complete self writing of data sets.

CNC simulation If requested, the travel distances of the tool are to be simulated in the graphic window. In this way, faults in the programming can be recognised in time. Manual work Handwheels are replaced with the step motors of the CNC machine. Nevertheless, manual machining should be possible with the help of cursor buttons, since the step motors can be operated manually.
