There were 365 public, public charter, and private high schools and Youth Correction Education Programs operating in Oregon during the 2013-2014 school year. Specifically, there were 297 public and charter high schools, 62 private high schools, and six Youth Corrections Education Programs. Oregon’s High School Health-Related Career and Technical Education . High school Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs use real-world, competency-based curriculum to prepare students for high- skill, high-demand, high-wage careers through certifications, career pathways, and academic degrees. In the 2013-2014 school year, 47 health-related CTE programs were offered in 49 high schools in 19 of Oregon’s 36 counties (or 16% of all public and charter schools). This included six high schools in Klamath County, six in Marion County, five in Washington County, and four in Multnomah County. In 2012, there were 42 high school health career-related CTE programs in 20 Oregon counties, including a new regional program developed by Heppner, Pendleton, and Umatilla High Schools. This school count included six high schools in Klamath County, five in Marion County, and three high schools each in Lane, Linn, Multnomah, Tillamook, Umatilla, Washington, and Wheeler counties. In 2010, there were 55 high school health career-related CTE programs in 21 counties in Oregon. This included seven high schools in Klamath County, six in Marion County, five in Lane County, and five in Washington County. Oregon’s Area Health Education Centers . Oregon’s Area Health Education Centers (AHEC) work to improve the availability, continuity, and quality of health care for Oregon’s communities through the development of a well-prepared, high quality health care workforce. AHEC programs start in K-16 education through professional training and into support for practicing professionals. In 2014, the regional AHECs offered a variety of health career-related programs in 83 of Oregon’s high schools (including one tribal middle/high school education program) in 25 counties. The large majority of these AHEC programs were in high schools in rural communities. In 2014, the AHECs provided health career-related programs in 36% of Oregon’s public and charter high schools. ii (This page intentionally left blank) iii Oregon High Schools (Public, Charter, • Voters' Pamphlet May 21 2002 Primary Election Nonpartisan Candidates
Oregon Secretary of State 2002 Voters’ Pamphlet | May 21, 2002 Primary Election (Nonpartisan Candidates) Dear Oregonian As Oregon's Secretary of State, one of my most important goals is to make sure that every Oregonian has the opportunity to register and to vote. Your vote is your voice. Voting gives each individual the power to make decisions about who leads our state and what laws are passed - and I am working hard to provide every Oregonian with the information and inspiration they need to exercise their precious right to vote. The Voters' Pamphlet is the most direct and complete source of information on candidates and issues in our state. I encourage you to use this document as a resource to help you make thoughtful, informed decisions as you vote. Remember: the ballot you cast in May will affect all of our lives and the future of our state. The May 2002 election will be Oregon's second statewide primary conducted entirely by mail. Two years ago, a total of over 900,000 Oregonians cast ballots in the first vote-by-mail Primary. The high turnout during the 2000 Primary reversed a steady twenty-year decline in the number of Oregonians casting Primary Election ballots. In fact, it represented a 16 percent increase over the highest number of votes ever cast in a polling place Primary Election. This year, I challenge Oregon to do even better. The nation is experiencing a disturbing decline in voter participation, particularly among young people. We stand the risk of losing a whole generation of voters.
