The children’s target was 500 karate kicks within 1 hour and the adults 1000 kicks in an hour. It was a very proud day for everyone at the club Inside this issue: and the achievement raised an incredible £536.78 for the children’s hospice, in recognition of the wonderful work that they do to ensure children and families are comfortable in the special remaining time left together. Measham Karate Club 1 Raise Funds Special mention to student Maddison Brierley pictured below who raised an outstanding £306 by herself . Minorca Community 2 An additional sum was raised to purchase new training mats for the group. Fund Report The Club train 3 nights per week in the Village Hall & Leisure Centre.     Leicestershire council leaders brand unitary plans 'wholly unnecessary' in latest letter www.leicestermercury.co.uk 13/11/2018 They have sent another letter to Councillor Nick Rushton urging him to halt the proposal Plans to reform local government have been branded "wholly unnecessary" and should be "halted immediately" according to district and borough council leaders. The seven leaders have again written to Nick Rushton, the leader of Leicestershire County Council, urging him to scrap his plans. The letter was penned by the leader of North West Leicestershire District Council, Richard Blunt, on behalf of the leaders of Blaby District Council, Charnwood Borough Council, Harborough District Council, Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council, Melton Borough Council and Oadby and Wigston Borough Council. It was sent on November 7, as scrutiny committees discussed the plans for a unitary authority and invites Coun Rushton to a meeting on December 3 "to discuss how we can work collaboratively in the future". It is the latest in a number of letters to Coun Rushton urging him to shelve the plans. Every district council in Leicestershire could be scrapped The leaders reference a recent letter to Coun Rushton sent by seven Leicestershire MPs telling him that "now is not the time to carry out a review of local authority structures in Leicestershire". The letter was apparently sent following discussions between Edward Argar, Andrew Bridgen, Alberto Costa, Alan Duncan, David Tredinnick, Nicky Morgan and Neil O'Brien and the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, James Brokenshire MP. The leaders again said that they will be willing to "work together to identify ways in which services can be delivered more effectively and efficiently across Leicestershire".

    Invest, Don’t Cut The predicted impact of Government policy on funding for schools and academies by 2020 A report by NUT and ATL This report presents findings from an NUT / ATL interactive website which demonstrates the likely impact on schools and academies of the Government’s current school funding policies and its plan to redistribute existing funding between schools in England - www.schoolcuts.org.uk The interactive website allows users to access detailed predictions for every school’s funding per pupil in real terms, as affected by the Government’s proposal to implement a new funding formula for schools alongside a freeze in funding per pupil and cost increases imposed by Government. The predictions are based on publicly available government data and the most robustly constructed proposed funding formula for schools currently available. With schools already struggling to cope, the Government plans what the Institute for Fiscal Studies has described as the largest real terms cut in school funding in a generation. We know that children are already suffering – class sizes are rising, curriculum choices are being cut, pupils with special educational needs and disabilities are losing vital support and school staff are losing their jobs. Instead of investing more money in education to address the funding shortages already hitting schools and academies, the Government plans only to move existing money around the country through a new funding formula. For every school which gains from this, others will lose – and almost every school will lose when the impact of inflation and other cost increases, against which the funding freeze offers no protection, are also taken into account.
