Top Events in Slovakia 2020 TOP EVENTS IN SLOVAKIA 2020 Prepared by: Tourism Section Department of Destination Management Ing. Viera Norisová Veronika Krakovská 03.12.2019 www.slovakia.travel JANUARY 22 November 2019 – 31 March 2020 Tatra Ice House 2020 (Tatranský ľadový dóm 2020) Come to beautiful Hrebienok this winter and experience the magic of the majestic Tatra Ice House. A masterpiece was crafted by 18 ice sculptors from Lithuania, Germany, Poland, Czech Republic and Slovakia, this year’s main builder is Adam Bakoš. An incredible 1880 blocks of ice weighing together more than 225 tons were used to construct it. The ice house is located inside a 25-meter-diameter dome whose highest point is 11.5 meters above the ground. The main theme this year of this gorgeous, magnificent ice temple is the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Built in Gothic style, some of its beauty was lost in a fire on 15 April 2019. You can see in the Tatra Ice House a replica of its beautiful western façade with the three main entrances, dominated in the center by a rosette-shaped stained glass window. The two front belfry towers above dominate the main entrances. There will also be festive guided tours of the castle for both local and international visitors. The seventh edition of the Winter Run Series consists of four separate races at various locations within the High Tatras. The third round takes place in Veľká Lomnica on 11 January 2020, with the finals to be held at Tatranská Polianka on 8 February 2020. The program features different genres, a fast musher race and the chance to ride a sled drawn by husky sled dogs at no charge. Fantastic weekend adventures in the snow await even the youngest visitors, with the INUIT ROUTE and ARCTIC EXPEDITION ready both Saturday and Sunday. My wife chris has just completed the major part of her treatment for cancer which occurred last year, and which curtailed all our overseas travelling in 2016. she is looking forward to making up for it this year; thanks to all those who have been supportive and sent good wishes. this is a busy time of year for chris and i, as we are volunteers for other groups such as caMra (campaign for real ale), where we help organise and run several large beer and cider festivals, and plan and participate in walks for several walking groups in the ribble Valley spread over lancashire and yorkshire. With the cold and inclement weather in the uK it was nice to be inside, preparing over 700 beers and ciders for the 15,000 delegates who attended the Manchester central exhibition centre (gMeX) over three days last week. real ale and craft beers are in the ascendency with many discerning customers. Matching speciality beers with food is becoming ever more popular at some top restaurants. member, who has returned to work in Valencia, they already have gathered 25+ members. In case yes, to what extent and under what conditions. Three districts in the South-Moravian Region, Znojmo, Bˇreclav, and Hodonín, situated in the rural borderland with Austria and Slovakia represented the study area. Both geographical and sociological methods were used to gather evidence for cultural tourism in that study. Firstly, attractiveness analysis of the area defined for cultural tourism took place. Next, factors influencing the potential for cultural tourism affecting rural development in South Moravia were evaluated. Finally, synergistic relations were discussed. In the territory, many forms of tourism intersect. Based on the results, it can be stated that cultural tourism can hardly be the main driver of rural development after the decline of agriculture because the region’s economy has branched out in several directions. However, it can be an important complementary activity that yields both economic and non-economic benefits.
