That All the People of the Earth May Know That the LORD Is God, and That There Is None Else

That all the people of the earth may know that the LORD is God, and that there is none else.

I have been working through a one-year chronological Bible (it has taken me well over a year and I am still not finished!) but as I read through the Old Testament, I was struck by how many times God would take action so that people would see and know that He is the true God and that there is no other. This concept is repeated many times in Genesis, Exodus, Deuteronomy, Leviticus, Numbers, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Kings, Psalms, etc. A few of the references are included here and at the end of this study.

Deuteronomy 4:35 - You were shown these things so that you would know that the LORD is God; there is no other besides Him.

Joshua 4:24 - He did this so that all the peoples of the earth may know that the hand of the LORD is mighty, and so that you may always fear the LORD your God."

Isaiah 45:5 – “I am the Lord, and there is no other; Besides Me there is no God. I will gird you, though you have not known Me;

Exodus 20:3 - You shall have no other gods before Me.

Exodus 34:14 —for you shall not worship any other god, for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God—

Deuteronomy 5:9 ESV: You shall not bow down to them or serve them; for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me,

Jesus and the Holy Spirit were present with the Father since the beginning. When Jesus came down to earth as fully God and fully human, it was the fulfillment of the scriptures and provided a way for us to spend eternity with God on the merits of Christ. He also gave us the Holy Spirit as our counselor and helper.

1 Corinthians 12:3 (NLV) - So I tell you that no one speaking by the help of the Holy Spirit can say that he hates Jesus. No one can say, “Jesus is Lord,” except by the help of the Holy Spirit.

The disruption in our prior day-to-day flow caused by the COVID-19 virus has provided us an opportunity to pause, to slow-down and re-evaluate whether we have any other gods before us.

1. What does it mean to crown Jesus Lord of everything in our life?

2. When things open up again, what would you would like to leave behind (be set free from)?

3. What new thing does God want to do in you?

Standing at the edge of the Red Sea, will you trust God and cross the sea into the wilderness or will you turn around and go back to Egypt to resume what was familiar and seemed normal?

1 Kings 8:60 (NIV) - so that all the peoples of the earth may know that the LORD is God and that there is no other.
