OUR OPINION Of all the things to worry about es, we know plastic is a problem on land and sea, but straws aren’t Number One on our Y list of existential threats to humanity. Which is yet another reason we are glad we live in Columbia County, among rational people, rather than, say, Gainesville, where handing out plastic straws with a Coke can land a restaurant owner in really hot water. Satchel’s, the iconic Alachua County pizzeria, found itself right there last week after doing just that. Folks here got a good laugh about it on Facebook, as we noted on the front page of Thursday’s paper. Satchel’s management told customers they’d need to start bringing their own straws from here on out, so be warned, should you ever head that way. One less thing for us to worry about here in Lake City. And Neil Gorsuch’s visit

BOYS SOCCER GUT CHECK Columbia battles back from 2-goal deficit to tie Santa Fe By ZACH ABOLVERDI [email protected]

For the third game in a row, the Columbia boys soccer team played to a draw Thursday night. But the latest result felt more like a win for the Tigers, who rallied with a pair of second-half goals and tied Santa Fe, 2-2. CHS coach Trevor Hickman called the comeback a “gut check” when he addressed his players afterward. “I thought we started a little flat. Had a little concern about that during warmups,” Hickman said. “We came out in the first half and went through the motions a little bit. Santa Fe, we’ll give them credit. They were very physical and challenged our kids. “We addressed that with them at halftime. One thing I can usually say about our team is we don’t play a match where the other team gets the best of us physically. So a little bit of a gut check in the locker room and they responded.” Hickman said Santa Fe’s physicality was the toughest Columbia has seen this season. The Raiders were also at full strength after missing a few starters in their first matchup against CHS last month, which they lost 1-0. Thursday’s matchup was scoreless in the first half until the final minute, when Sante Fe’s RJ Boone sailed a shot over the head of Tigers goalie Colby Strickland. The Raiders struck again in the first four minutes of the second half and took a 2-0 lead on the goal by Kenny Contreras-
