Artem from Kharkiv Ukraine said at the first 2010 Street Child World Cup Congress: “It was not until this World Cup that I realised that there were street kids in other countries. Up until now I have been blaming myself for being on the streets, now I know diferent”. To a journey where you will be renewed in your body and spirit and be reminded why you work in this area and why your specific contribution to changing this unfair world to be kinder to street children is so vital. Like Artem, you will realise that you are not alone. Particpant at the first street child summit Cambridge 2012: “We rarely get invited to the top table, now we street child NGO leaders, have our own table.” Qatar 2022 will be our 6th major global sporting and human rights event for street children and India 2023 will be our 7th. As a small clearly focused and dynamic organistion we have learned so much in the past 10 years – we’ve grown smarter, stronger and our sphere of influence has widened considerably. At the heart of what we do is serving street-connected young people and making sure their demands for lasting change on birth registration, access to education and protection from violence are heard and then realised. Crucial to our success is identifying the best NGO’s working with street children and then aligning our activities and effort to best support them. After the Street Child World Cup Moscow 2018, seven of our returning teams met their presidents or prime ministers. The captain of Team Nepal summed it all up in once sentence: “The hands that were raised yesterday to beat us on the streets are now raised to honour us” . It is and will be a privilege for all that are conspiring with us to deliver the best ever Street Child Football World Cup in Qatar and the best Cricket World Cup yet in India, if the outcome of the hard work is lasting change for street-connected young people across the world.
