The seven commands of worship are not negotiable. They are God’s requirements to worship. But you may consider turning your home Thanksgiving Gathering into a fun, purposeful time, based on the directives of Psalm 100. Be creative. Take Worship

Plan on making a lot of noise (like a birthday party). Collect noise makers (verse 1). Get everyone involved. Make it fun. You can prepare banners with the kids like a birthday party is done. Let the kids hang them while the noisemakers are going: “Happy Thanksgiving”; “God is Home Good!”, “God is Loyal!” etc. Don’t hurry. Be festive.

Then, have the kids put a “service card” under each dinner plate: “visit a sick person,” “wash the dishes,” “rake a yard,” etc, etc. At the table, go around, have each read their card (how I will serve, verse 2). We serve God by serving others in need. Make it fun, try to trade cards etc if you like. Maybe give little awards for “catching” someone the past year serving others.

Then, third, all sing to God, how about “You are my sunshine?” Maybe the kids or someone will perform for the Lord? (verse 3) Thanksgiving prayer for family & food.

4th, one of the elders tell a story about God’s creation or read (in contemporary version). Maybe a discussion will begin about verse 3? Maybe throw out trivia questions about the subjects of verse 3? Don’t stifle--have fun. Give prizes maybe?

Maybe during dessert, go around and tell why you are thankful to God, praise will be natural then. And, verse 4 will be practiced. Then go around the table and have people complete, “Thank you Lord for ______. “ to God. [Suggestions: Prepare an empty drawer for electronic devices as people arrive. The key is planning as it was in
