Huxbear House Teign Valley Road | Trusham | TQ13 0NY

Huxbear House has always had a warm welcoming homely feel and is our ‘Haven’ from busy work, college and city life. The house is so unique and full of character and we love it dearly. We love the fact it is a little quirky, with no 90 degree angles or straight walls! It stands proud after being built so long ago circa 1700 allowing all families since that time to treat Huxbear as their own.

It has worked so well for us and has allowed us as a family to share lovely big rooms as well as giving us our own space with the music room for band practise and playing various noisy instruments and the gym, which used to be the kids den when they were young.

The kitchen and lounge are our favourite rooms as these both brim with farmhouse character and are the rooms where our family time is enjoyed and appreciated. Something I’ll miss when my daughter leaves for Uni following her brother last year. That’s the only reason to leave after 24 years.

The plot here at Huxbear is as special as the property. The rear patio provides a private sheltered area for sitting quietly just reading or entertaining and there is the side secret garden area, rear garden and then there is the meadow which the children have made much use of with outdoor games and sports when growing up. It’s around two acres and level so it would make a perfect paddock I’m sure.

We’ll really miss the space to entertain large parties, both indoors and outside - we have fond memories of marquees in the garden for summer parties, barn dance style birthday and Halloween parties held in the garage and Yuletide parties indoors where a 6 piece jazz band performed in the kitchen!!

Although you are in the midst of the countryside in the Teign Valley enjoying privacy, it is not solitary. The moors and beaches are nearby and it is only 25 mins to for school, college, shopping, music venues and theatre visits.

24 years has flown by, we’ll all miss it but it is time for another family to enjoy what Huxbear has given to me and my children as they have grown up but is now time to move on and start a new adventure!
