This is without a doubt one of the best biographies I have EVER read. This is more than a biography. It is almost like a tutorial for anyone out there who is serious about being a musician and what it takes to be an accomplished one. As one of the other reviewers noted, Mike is best known as David Bowies Piano Man but he is so much more musically. as well as in attitude and spirit. One of the reasons, as noted in the book, Garson brought such an interesting dynamic to Bowies music on stage and in the studio with his encyclopedic knowledge and ability to adapt jazz and classical flavor to Davids performances. And I believe thats why Bowie always went back to Mike in recording and performance situations. But again, the bio is so much more. From his earliest performances in the NYC jazz scene, to Mick Ronson, to Nine Inch Nails, to Smashing Pumpkins and beyond, Mike has given every project he has touched a spiritual and sensitive performance that could never have been accomplished by other keyboardists. And the renowned people he has trained and performed with in virtually every genre of music imaginable, is a Whos Who of the greats in jazz and rock and now music. And as a musician of many years, the book has awakened in me a attitudes and desire to perform and compose on a higher level: both as an adequate keyboardist/guitarist and composer. I dont want to come-off as a Garson groupie here, but after reading this book I even ordered the Master Class series of his tutorials. And, by the way, if I had studied piano under him, I would have been a better musician much sooner. Thats how good his teaching skills are. BUT DONT BE INTIMIDATED BY THE EXPERTISE AND TALENT NOTED THROUGHOUT THIS BOOK. This book is for anyone who wants to play, record or compose music at virtually every level and as the book notes, though he is a prodigy on his instrument, he is also a humble man who believes that every one who truly wants to play music and is willing to take the time to practice and understand the nuances of every music genre, can and will succeed. AND BE AWARE, this is not some tell-all book with sordid tales of sex, drugs and rock and roll, but a genuine look into the life of a man who cares about the music more than the excesses of the music business.
