onsistency is a key ingredient to the recent success enjoyed by the Mississippi State University basketball program, one that is stressed in the players’ daily activities on and Coff the basketball fl oor that has translated into the program’s recent run of national promi- nence gained under head coach Rick Stansbury. That consistency was brought to the forefront three years ago when MSU’s 13th-year head basketball coach became the all-time winningest basketball coach in school history, surpassing Richard Williams’ mark of 191. Now with a 13-year coaching record of 262-142 at the Bulldog helm, the 14th-most wins in SEC history, Stansbury has guided 10 State squads (6 NCAA & 4 NIT) to postseason tournament appearances and nine clubs to 20-plus wins campaigns. MSU has averaged 21.3 wins the last six years (2005-10), including winning an outright SEC overall championship in 2004, along with back-to-back SEC West crowns in the 2003-2004 and 2007-2008 seasons an another in 2010, and SEC Tournament titles in 2002 and 2009. Most recently, Stansbury piloted last year’s 24-12 State squad to its seventh SEC Western divi- sion crown in school history en route to advancing to the NIT, where the Bulldogs lost to North Rick Stansbury, 13th year Carolina in the second round. From 2001-05, he guided MSU to fi ve-consecutive postseason tournament appearances for the fi rst time in school history, including a streak of four straight NCAA Tournament berths from 2002 through 2005.

STARKVILLE, Miss. — A strong second half lifted Mississippi State to a 67-46 win against Alabama State. The Bulldogs close their season-open- ing nine-game homestand with a 7-2 re- cord. While Tuesday night marked the Bulldogs’ biggest margin of victory this season, the victory still not come easily. MSU played without Ravern Johnson, who served a one-game suspension for failure to abide by the university’s class attendance policy. In the fi nal half, the Bulldogs blew things wide open with 25-5. The Bulldogs found some struggles late in the fi rst half and managed only fi ve points over the fi nal 10:27. The Bulldogs scored the game’s fi rst three points and sprinted to an 11-4 lead on a Riley Benock 3-point basket. The Hornets actually grabbed their fi rst lead of the night on a 3-point basket by Kaylim Noel with 1:54 left. That trey put ASU on top 26-24. The Hornets led 28-26 at halftime, but the Bulldogs outscored the guests 41-18 in the fi nal half.
