An Amber Attractions Production the Golden Days of Australian Bandstand a Musical Look at 60'S Culture

An Amber Attractions Production The Golden days of Australian Bandstand A musical look at 60's Culture Australia’s longest running TV pop show ran for 15 years on channel nine and was beamed into, two million Australian loungeroom’s each week. Hosted by the mild mannered Brian Henderson, it featured regular Australian singers who became known as the "Bandstand Family". The show popularised the talents of Col Joye, Little Patti, Bryan Davies, Judy Stone, The Seekers, Johnny Farnham and The Bee Gees to name a few. As the program grew in popularity the audience was introduced to many overseas stars such as Dusty Springfield, Petula Clark, Tom Jones, Hermans Hermits, Chubby Checker plus many more. While other pop shows presented screaming fans and long-haired beat groups, Bandstand somehow seemed to ignore the extreme trends in music that happened in the mid and late 1960s. Although it showcased a range of pop performers, it shied away from the brash and the scruffy, becoming a more family orientated programme than a show strictly for teenagers. Each episode featured the "Bandstand Ballet" who kept the audience up to date with the latest dance trends. The Audience will RE-LIVE those swinging days of BANDSTAND. Be transported back to their loungeroom's with memorable Film clips BOP along with the DANCERS on screen and sing their heart's out to those unforgettable songs. Produced and Presented by Australia's favourite entertainers, Eddie Daniels and Suzie Lee. BANDSTAND Playlist examples Happy Together - The Turtles Boom bang a Bang - Lulu Do

Lakecia Benjamin’s journey into music began in the predominantly Dominican Lakecia Benjamin neighborhood of Washington Heights in New York City. She grew up listening to and eventually playing Merengue and Bachata. At just 14 years old, she Rise Up gained her independence and moved out of her parents care, earning the little Release Date: March 23, 2018 money she could from local gigs to support herself. Genre: Jazz, R&B Format: CD, Digital Even though she was zoned for George Washington High School, Lakecia was encouraged her to pursue music at La Guardia High School, a popular school for young artists, such as Marcus Miller and Nicki Minaj. At her audition for LaGuar- dia, Bob Stewart, the music director for the school, advised her that she was playing all the right notes but not in the right style. Having only Dominican inuences in her repertoire, Lakecia was unaware of the Jazz greats, but stated bluntly, “I don’t know anything about Jazz Sir; all I know is you have to let me in to this school.” Stewart could see the talent in Benjamin, and so he sent her home with a few names – Charlie Parker, Duke Ellington, Charles Mingus, and John Coltrane. She listened and quickly learned their style. Lakecia was nally accepted to attend LaGuardia High School. With her talent, drive, and just a saxophone as her passport, Lakecia was set on her journey from the streets of Washington Heights to the expansive world of Jazz. As she shared her music to wider audiences, Lakecia Benjamin quickly gained recognition.

Banned on the Run Monday - Thursday the Music THEY Wouldn’T Let You Buy

WWhat’shat’s OOnn E-Book?E-Book? By Helen Marketti Banned On The Run Monday - Thursday The music THEY wouldn’t let you buy. 5:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. Brian Southall has seen it all during his many impressive years in the music Friday industry. His latest book, Banned On The Run - the music THEY wouldn’t let you buy 5:00 - Midnight (Poppublishing, UK, 2014) is a collection of songs dating back to the 1930s that were banned Saturday from airplay and exposure to the public. Lyrics were considered offensive and inappropriate 12:00 p.m. - Midnight for the listening audience. It is an entertaining E-book as we share in the stories of why many songs were given the axe. Some examples from the book of well known songs being banned from the radio included Entertainment The Everly Brothers hit, “Wake Up Little Susie” (1957). It “suggested” that Suzie did more Every Saturday! than just sleep over. The Coasters hit “Charlie Brown” (1959) was banned for a short time on the BBC because of the word “spitball”. Next, the folk rock trio of Peter, Paul and Mary with 3AT*UNEs their classic “Puff The Magic Dragon” (1963) was on a list of records to be banned by then Vice President, Spiro Agnew. It was not clear if the song was referring to smoking dope or a Facemeyer Trio fun song for children. Agnew stated that the song was “blatant drug culture propaganda.” How about the Rolling Stones? “I Can’t Get No Satisfaction” (1965) was taken off radio stations because there were complaints that the song was “sexually aggressive.” 3AT*UNEs Brian Southall’s music career began as a journalist on the Essex Chronicle back in the 1960s where he interviewed pop groups of that Lyle Heath generation.

Media Studies Has Ninety-Nine Problems…But Tyler Perry Ain't One of Them? Treaandrea Russworm

University of Massachusetts Amherst From the SelectedWorks of TreaAndrea Russworm June 20, 2016 Introduction: Media Studies has Ninety-Nine Problems…But Tyler Perry Ain't One of Them? TreaAndrea Russworm Available at: https://works.bepress.com/ treaandrea_russworm/2/ INTRODUCTION Media Studies Has Ninety-Nine Problems ... But Tyler Perry Ain't One of Them? -TreaAndrea M. Russworm My Problem(s) with Tyler Perry I have complicated feelingsabout Tyler Perry. He makes me feel some kind of way, or as my students would say, I have"feels" on the matter. In fact, for a long while, whenever I mentioned to anyone (from col leagues to cab drivers to my mother) that I was working on this col lection, I always foundsome way to distance my intellectual labor on the project froma positive endorsement of Perry's filmsand television e shows. I'd say:"Yes. Tyler Perry. Wre editing a book on him but that doesn'tmean I like his stuff. I am so not a fan. I don't drink the Kool Aid." In casual social spaces, I have used much stronger language to frame my resistance to Perry's oeuvre, and I'm not afraidto begin this collection of critical essays by repeating what I have so often said to others: I have hated every Tyler Perry movie I have ever seen (my per sonal viewing total is thirteen Perry-directed filmsand videos ...and counting). I have stressed to anyone who broached the subject with me that every moment of watching these films has been masochistic, barely endurable.I have especially hated the factthat Tyler Perry keeps making films.
