This list has been produced by the Department of Sustainability, Environment, Water, Population and Communities (SEWPC) for the Natural Resource Management Spatial Information System. The list was produced using the AustralianAustralian Natural Natural Heritage Heritage Assessment Assessment Tool Tool (ANHAT), which analyses data from a range of plant and animal surveys and collections from across Australia to automatically generate a report for each NRM region. Data sources (Appendix 2) include national and state herbaria, museums, state governments, CSIRO, Birds Australia and a range of surveys conducted by or for DEWHA. For each family of plant and animal covered by ANHAT (Appendix 1), this document gives the number of species in the country and how many of them are found in the region. The complex is placed in section Lasiocephala; a group of perennial sundews mostly characterised by an indumentum of white hairs upon the petiole. Here we describe a new species for the complex, D. stipularis Baleeiro, R.W.Jobson & R.L.Barrett, which is known only from white-sand habitats on Cape York Peninsula, Queensland. The new species is allied to D. petiolaris R.Br. ex DC. and D. lanata K.Kondo. Introduction Drosera petiolaris R.Br. ex DC. was first collected at Endeavour River, Queensland (Banks and Solander s.n., BM) and was described by Robert Brown (in de Candolle 1824). The type specimen was evidently collected very late in the season, and has little fertile material present. The species was later found to be part of a morphologically variable complex distributed across northern Australia and Papua New Guinea.

Parker, Updates to Western Australia’s vascular plant census for 2018 1 Nuytsia The journal of the Western Australian Herbarium 30: 1–18 Published online 28 March 2019 SHORT COMMUNICATION Updates to Western Australia’s vascular plant census for 2018 The census database at the Western Australian Herbarium (PERTH), which provides the nomenclature for the website FloraBase (Western Australian Herbarium 1998–), lists current names and recent synonymy for Western Australia’s native and naturalised vascular plants, as well as algae, bryophytes, lichens, slime moulds and some fungi. The names represented in the census are either sourced from published research or denote as yet unpublished names based on herbarium voucher specimens. We herein summarise the changes made to vascular plant names in this database during 2018. One hundred and twenty-nine taxa were newly recorded for the State, of which 24 are naturalised and 41 have been added to the Threatened and Priority Flora list for Western Australia (Smith & Jones 2018; Western Australian Herbarium 1998–) (Table 1). A total of 185 name changes were made, including the formal publication of 29 phrase-named taxa (Table 2). Plant groups for which a number of name changes were made include Hydrocotyle L. (Perkins 2018a, 2018b), Drosera L. (Lowrie 2013a, 2013b, 2014), Lepilaena Harv. (Ito et al. 2016; Macfarlane et al. 2017) and Zygophyllum L. (transferred to Roepera A.Juss. following Beier et al. 2003). Numerous phrased-named taxa in the genus Baeckea L. were formally published under an expanded circumscription of Hysterobaeckea (Nied.) Rye (Rye 2018). Table 2 also includes cases where there has been a change of taxonomic concept, misapplication, exclusion or rank change.

    Biodiversity Summary for NRM Regions Species List What is the summary for and where does it come from? This list has been produced by the Department of Sustainability, Environment, Water, Population and Communities (SEWPC) for the Natural Resource Management Spatial Information System. The list was produced using the AustralianAustralian Natural Natural Heritage Heritage Assessment Assessment Tool Tool (ANHAT), which analyses data from a range of plant and animal surveys and collections from across Australia to automatically generate a report for each NRM region. Data sources (Appendix 2) include national and state herbaria, museums, state governments, CSIRO, Birds Australia and a range of surveys conducted by or for DEWHA. For each family of plant and animal covered by ANHAT (Appendix 1), this document gives the number of species in the country and how many of them are found in the region. It also identifies species listed as Vulnerable, Critically Endangered, Endangered or Conservation Dependent under the EPBC Act. A biodiversity summary for this region is also available. Reason for Conservation Assessment by the Committee This advice follows assessment of new information provided on: Drosera prolifera (a sundew) 2. Summary of Species Details Taxonomy Conventionally accepted as Drosera prolifera C.T.White State Listing Status Listed as vulnerable under the Queensland Nature Conservation Act 1992. Description A herb with fibrous roots, sometimes forming large mats, Drosera prolifera has kidney-shaped leaf blades, 10–20 mm in diameter, sparsely covered with glandular hairs that trap insects, on flattened, slender petioles 15–45 mm long. The stems of each leaf are 1–2 cm long with up to 15 leaves arranged in a basal rosette. A flowering spike is produced 10–18 cm long, with 4–8 flowers. Petals are obovate, 2.5–3 mm long and red in colour (Marchant and George, 1982; Queensland Herbarium, 2009a). Distribution The species is endemic to north-east Queensland and occurs in an area of approximately 90 km2 from Mt Pieter Botte and Roaring Meg Creek to Thornton Peak and the Noah Creek catchment near Cape Tribulation (Metcalfe et al., 2008; Queensland Herbarium, 2009a). Known from three locations including one in Monkhouse Timber Reserve and two in Daintree National Park (Queensland Herbarium, 2009a). As these areas are part of the protected estate of the Wet Tropics, the species is therefore covered under the Queensland Wet Tropics World Heritage Protection and Management Act 1993.
