A PFA working model is adopted where MT low resistivity upwellings suggesting geothermal fluids may coincide with dilatent geological structural settings and observed thermal fluids with deep high-temperature contributions. A challenge in the Central Cascades region is to make useful Play assessments in the face of sparse data coverage. Magnetotelluric (MT) data from the relatively dense EMSLAB transect combined with regional Earthscope stations have undergone 3D inversion using a new edge finite element formulation. Inversion shows that low resistivity upwellings are associated with known geothermal areas Breitenbush and Kahneeta Hot Springs in the Mount Jefferson area, as well as others with no surface manifestations. At Earthscope sampling scales, several low-resistivity lineaments in the deep crust project from the east to the Cascades, most prominently perhaps beneath Three Sisters. Structural geology analysis facilitated by growing LiDAR coverage is revealing numerous new faults confirming that seemingly regional NW-SE fault trends intersect N-S, Cascades graben- related faults in areas of known hot springs including Breitenbush. -

Interior The following appropriations requests were submitted by Senator Merkley to the Appropriations Committee for consideration as part of the Interior, Environment and Related Agencies appropriations bill for fiscal year 2011. Bend Surface Water Project - $2,000,000 EPA, Bend, OR The Surface Water project has three major components: water treatment, pipeline replacement, and hydroelectric development. Funds will be put toward the estimated overall $71,000,000 cost of the project, which is to construct a water treatment plant, replace an 11 mile water pipeline, and install a small hydroelectric facility, gaining 1.2 MW of green power, further defraying the long term cost of the project. The project is required in order to replace aging infrastructure, and comply with EPA LT2 drinking water regulations governing surface water. Eastside Sewer Interceptor Project: Oak to Antler - $1,375,000 City of Redmond, Redmond, OR The east side of Redmond is poised for significant industrial and commercial growth. The City’s Desert Rise Industrial Park (State Certified, 75 shovel ready acres), Pioneer Business Park (40 acre, incubator lots), Crown Mill redevelopment (70 acre former sawmill), Greenway Business Campus (220 acre ―green-themed‖ re-development) and several other planned development or redevelopment projects exist east of US 97 and the BNSF rail line. Full buildout of the east side industrial development cannot occur without construction of a planned large diameter sewer line which parallels the BNSF rail line and intercepts/collects wastewater effluent from all east side development. The project, known as the Eastside Sewer Interceptor Project, will also have the capacity to serve the potential 900-acre large lot Department of State Land (DSL) project south of the Deschutes County Fairgrounds and Expo Center. -

UNIT-V EVOLUTION OF HORSE Horses (Equus) are odd-toed hooped mammals belong- ing to the order Perissodactyla. Horse evolution is a straight line evolution and is a suitable example for orthogenesis. It started from Eocene period. The entire evolutionary sequence of horse history is recorded in North America. " Place of Origin The place of origin of horse is North America. From here, horses migrated to Europe and Asia. By the end of Pleis- tocene period, horses became extinct in the motherland (N. America). The horses now living in N. America are the de- scendants of migrants from other continents. Time of Origin The horse evolution started some 58 million years ago, m the beginning of Eocene period of Coenozoic era. The modem horse Equus originated in Pleistocene period about 2 million years ago. Evolutionary Trends The fossils of horses that lived in different periods, show that the body parts exhibited progressive changes towards a particular direction. These directional changes are called evo- lutionary trends. The evolutionary trends of horse evolution are summarized below: 1. Increase in size. 2. Increase in the length of limbs. 3. Increase in the length of the neck. 4. Increase in the length of preorbital region (face). 5. Increase in the length and size of III digit. 6. Increase in the size and complexity of brain. 7. 4. Lower Oregon Columbia Gorge Tributaries Watershed Assessment 4.1 Subbasin Overview General Description Location and Size The Lower Oregon Columbia Gorge Tributaries Watershed consists of the 19 small Columbia River tributaries located between Bonneville Dam and the Hood River. Its major streams are Herman and Eagle creeks. The watershed is located in Hood River County, except for a small part of the Eagle Creek drainage, and includes the City of Cascade Locks and part of the City of Hood River. The watershed covers a drainage area of 63,714 acres or 99.6 square miles. Geology Volcanic lava flows, glaciers, and flooding were the key forces forming the Columbia Gorge landscape of basalt cliffs, waterfalls, talus slopes and ridges. Land elevations rise rapidly from 72 feet above sea level to approximately 5,000 feet. Mt. Defiance is the highest peak at 4,960 feet. Landslides are the dominant erosional process in recent history (USFS, 1998). Debris torrents and ice and snow avalanches are not uncommon in the winter months. Alluvial fan deposits at the mouths of the steeper, more constricted creeks suggest the frequent routing of debris torrents down these channels. The lower mile or so of creeks have gradients of about 5 percent, rising steeply at middle elevations, with lower gradient channels in glaciated headwater valleys. Climate and Weather The watershed lies in the transition zone between the wet marine climate to the west and the dry continental climate to the east. Precipitation amounts vary dramatically from east to west and with elevation, ranging from 40 to 125 to inches annually. -
