A review. 1963: The original 911 911 2,0 Coupé from 1965 As the successor to the Porsche 356, the 911 won the hearts of sports car enthusiasts from the outset. The prototype was first unveiled at the Frankfurt IAA Motor Show in 1963 as the 901, and was renamed the 911 for its market launch in 1964. Its air-cooled six-cylinder flat engine with two-litre displacement delivered 130 hp, giving it an impressive top speed of 210 km per hour. If you wanted to take things a little slower, you could also opt for the four-cylinder Porsche 912 from 1965. In 1966, Porsche presented the Page 1 of 6 160 hp 911 S, which was the first to feature forged alloy wheels from Fuchs. The 911 Targa, with its distinctive stainless steel roll-over bar, made its debut in late 1966 as the world’s first ever safety cabriolet. The semi-automatic Sportomatic four-speed transmission joined the line-up in 1967. And with the 911 T, and the later E and S variants, Porsche became the first German manufacturer to comply with strict US exhaust emission control regulations. The Porsche 911 became more and more powerful as displacement increased, initially to 2.2 litres (1969) and later to 2.4 (1971). The 911 Carrera RS 2.7 of 1972 with a 210 hp engine and weighing less than 1000 kg remains the epitome of a dream car to this day. Its characteristic “ducktail” was the world’s first rear spoiler on a production vehicle. -

It is the archetypal sports car for everyday driving, and a style icon that is unmis- takable as both the face and heart of the Porsche brand: the 911. In Zuffenhausen today, the one-millionth model rolled off the production line – a Carrera S in the special colour “Irish Green”, with numerous exclusive features following the original 911 from 1963. The two-door car remains the most strategically important model in the product range and makes a huge contribution to maintaining Porsche’s position as one of the most profitable car manufacturers in the world. Touring Philosophy Is Part of the Porsche Tradition
History Touring philosophy is part of the Porsche tradition In Porsche models, “T” has always stood for Touring, and is synonymous with driving pleasure in a particularly pure form. The first Touring variant appears in autumn 1967 when the 911 T makes its début. As a new basic model in the company’s range of sports cars, it is distinguished by a particularly strong price-performance ratio and a standard equipment configuration that focuses on the essentials, just as the Porsche 912 (with four- cylinder boxer engine) does. Like the 718 T today, the 911 T has an engine capacity of two litres, based on which the six-cylinder boxer engine in the 911 T achieves 110 PS – combined with a weight of just 1,080 kg, the 911 T displays an agile temperament and a top speed of 200 km/h. With manual 4-gear transmission supplied as standard, it is also available in a 5-gear variant. One outstanding sporting success earns this model a special place in Porsche history: More than 50 years ago in 1968, factory drivers Vic Elford and David Stone drove a 180 PS 911 T to victory in the Monte Carlo rally – the first big win for a 911 on the international motorsport stage. 911 Carrera Clubsport: Exclusive lightweight model The 1987 911 Carrera Clubsport also followed the Touring philosophy, with a spartan lightweight version that knows all about stripping back to basics, especially in the interior. Rear seats and electric window switches are absent, along with the automatic heating regulation, passenger sun visor, clothes hooks, and covers for the storage compartments in the doors. -

Abstract: The Karl E. Ludvigsen papers 1905-2011 contain his extensive research files, photographs, and prints on a wide variety of automotive topics. The papers reflect the complexity and breadth of Ludvigsen’s work as an author, researcher, and consultant. Approximately 70,000 of his photographic negatives have been digitized and are available on the Revs Digital Library. Thousands of undigitized prints in several series are also available but the copyright of the prints is unclear for many of the images. Ludvigsen’s research files are divided into two series: Subjects and Marques, each focusing on technical aspects, and were clipped or copied from newspapers, trade publications, and manufacturer’s literature, but there are occasional blueprints and photographs. Some of the files include Ludvigsen’s consulting research and the records of his Ludvigsen Library. Scope and Content Note: The Karl E. Ludvigsen papers are organized into eight series. The series largely reflects Ludvigsen’s original filing structure for paper and photographic materials. Series 1. Subject Files [11 filing cabinets and 18 record center cartons] The Subject Files contain documents compiled by Ludvigsen on a wide variety of automotive topics, and are in general alphabetical order. -

Press Release March 6, 2017 Special exhibition at the Porsche Museum Porsche celebrates motorsport icon Walter Röhrl Stuttgart. “Genius on wheels” is the name of an exhibition at the Porsche Museum in Zuffenhausen that honours rally racing legend Walter Röhrl on his 70th birthday. From March 14 to May 14, 2017, the Museum is displaying numerous vehicles driven by the World Rally Championship winner as he established and cemented his reputation as the best and most versatile racer of his time in the world. The exhibition focuses on his many years of collaboration with Porsche. Röhrl has been a brand ambassador and test driver for the Stuttgart sportscar manufacturer since 1993. A bend on the Porsche test track at the Development Centre in Weissach will soon bear his name. To kick off the special exhibition, Röhrl and his long-standing co-driver Christian Geistdörfer will appear at an autograph session from 11 am on March 14. Born on March 7, 1947 in Regensburg, Röhrl has had a strong bond with his favourite brand Porsche for his entire life. The first car he owned was a Porsche 356 B Coupé with 75 hp. He bought the car without an engine, saving every penny he could. Even as a factory driver with Ford, Opel, Fiat, Lancia and Audi, Röhrl cultivated his relation- ship with Porsche, including through rally drives in his own 911. Porsche secured the services of Röhrl – already a two-time World Endurance Championship winner – as a factory driver in 1981. Röhrl initially started in the German Rally Championship and drove a 911 at Rallye San Remo in the World Rally Championship. -

These innovative new Porsches – the Cayenne S Hybrid, the 911 GT3 R Hybrid and the 918 Spyder – were developed according to the Porsche Intelligent Performance philosophy -- more power on less fuel, increased efficiency and lower CO2 emissions. With three different designs, hybrid pioneer Porsche is emphasizing the broad range of this new drive technology. The Cayenne S Hybrid features a parallel full hybrid system, the 911 GT3 R Hybrid race car has electric front-wheel drive and a flywheel mass battery, and the 918 Spyder has a plug-in hybrid system that enables the battery to be charged from the regular electrical network. The 2011 Cayenne S Hybrid, based on the all-new Cayenne model line that makes its North American debut at the 2010 New York Auto Show, is Porsche’s first production hybrid. Featuring a highly sophisticated parallel full hybrid system, it has a combined power output of 380 horsepower from the supercharged V6 combustion engine and an electric motor, the Cayenne S Hybrid combines the performance of a V8 with the economy of a V6. -
