• To install an artificial turf surface on the current site of Utley Field at Chestermere High School. • To upgrade the spotters box and concession area at the field. • To build dressing rooms for 4 teams and storage areas for school and community teams, as well a storage area for field maintenance equipment. Chestermere High School Athletic Park Upgrade Project 2019 WHY the Upgrade?

1. To provide the safest possible field for our athletes to play on. 2. To increase recreation opportunities in the community. 3. To create a facility that can bring economic benefit to the community through its ability to host large events. i.e. Provincial or National Championships. 4. Give school and community teams a HOME. Dressing room and storage facilities are included. They are required to get the full economic benefit out of a facility of this nature. 5. Give a central home to athletics in Chestermere and Southeast Rocky View. Why Explained # 1 • To provide the safest possible field for our athletes to play on. • The current field is in poor condition. The girls soccer team had to play on a community field this past season. • There were two studies done in the US of high school football and NCAA soccer, focusing on the reduction of injuries on Field Turf vs. grass fields, over a 5 year study:

Injury % fewer on Turf vs. Grass Overall Injuries 28% fewer Concussions 44% fewer ACL tears 40% fewer Overall ligament tears 33.4% fewer NCAA Woman’s Soccer had 100% fewer MCL tears Severe Injuries 62.5% fewer Why Explained # 2

• To increase recreation opportunities in Chestermere and SE Rockyview

• To create a facility that can bring economic benefit to the community through its ability to host large events. i.e. Provincial or National Championships. • A facility like this will attract tournaments of all kinds from community to national events. • This will bring people and dollars into Chestermere and Southeast Rocky View. • Give school and community teams a HOME. Dressing room and storage facilities are included. They are required to get the full economic benefit out of a facility of this nature. • When any organization has somewhere they can call home, they always have greater success. • Home field advantage means something. • A facility like this will increase participation. • Give a central home to athletics in eastern areas of Rocky View. • This is a multi sport, multi community facility • Soccer, Football, Rugby, Ultimate Frisbee, Cricket, Field Hockey, Baseball, etc. • Conrich, Delacour, Indus, Langdon, Kathryn, Keoma and all parts in between will use and have the benefits of this facility. • This will be the only artificial playing surface in eastern area of Rocky View; the nearest other surface is at in Cochrane.

• This will allow people and organizations of all ages to play on a clear, safe, and cared for facility for as many as 3,000 hours a year.

• School sport teams, and bands, soccer, football, rugby, ultimate frisbee, anything and everything

• City of Chestermere community youth and adult sports teams (population ~21,000 at 2018) Benefit to residents of Chestermere and Rocky View County

• The Friends of Chestermere High School society will operate the facility and collect and disperse funds for its construction. • It will sit on Rocky View School Division land. • The Friends will look after maintenance and bookings of the facility. • Much like the hockey rinks in the area the dressing rooms will be very much self policed, with encouragement from the Friends members. Operations • As mentioned in slide 5 maintenance and operational opportunities are below. • We plan to allocate 10% of all fees paid to our operations and maintenance budget.
