It certainly was compelling. Who doesn't love a good revolution? But like "The Simpsons'" Nelson Muntz staring disappoint- edly at the cinema marquee for "Naked Lunch," co-editors Aria Chernik and Ben Owens mulled our work and said, "I can think of at least two things wrong with that title."5 The Open Organization Guide for Educators features stories from teachers, administrators, and students who certainly have embraced a collaborative, iterative, transparent, inclusive—and, in a word, more open—approach to building educational organiza- tions. As they've all demonstrated, it's an approach to education with the power to create classrooms that are more engaging and learner-centered, faculty meetings that foreground meritocracy and accountability, lessons that are open to anyone's feedback and modification, assessments that empower rather than punish, and teaching communities built first and foremost on trust and a propensity for sharing. And nothing about it should seem revolutionary. In fact, referring to it that way risks giving the impression that it's some kind of radical or eccentric set of ideas about teach- ing and learning. But the possibility that someone might perceive it as such should give anyone pause. After all, the authors in this vol- ume don't sound like revolutionaries. They sound like dedicated advocates for an education system that's in sync with its technical, 5 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9sL102pyaLg 15 The Open Organization Guide for Educators social, economic, and ethical contexts; that's preparing people to act not only effectively but also humanely in those contexts; and that's capable of responding adequately when those contexts in- evitably shift. Education doesn't need revolution. It needs a thoughtful, careful, and deliberate upgrade for the 21st century. So that word had to go. And disappear it did—in favor of something that emphasized open education's transformative power. One final matter, then, was "the future." The reality is that educators aren't advocating greater open- ness as a way of preparing students for the future. They're doing it to help them participate in the world as it is today. Increasingly, modern organizations are more dynamic and nonhierarchical. They're filled with people intrinsically motivated by visions and val- ues that transcend the profit motive. And they're more porous, connecting more readily with external partners and communities. Authors of the forthcoming pages want

The main aim of our research is to guide organizational choice by comparing the features, functionality, and user-facing system performance of the five most popular open-source EHR systems. Methods: We performed qualitative content analysis with a directed approach on recently published literature (2012–2017) to develop an integrated set of criteria to compare the EHR systems. The functional criteria are an integration of the literature, meaningful use criteria, and the Institute of Medicine’s functional requirements of EHR, whereas the user-facing system performance is based on the time required to perform basic tasks within the EHR system. Results: Based on the Alexa web ranking and Google Trends, the five most popular EHR systems at the time of our study were OSHERA VistA, GNU Health, the Open Medical Record System (OpenMRS), Open Electronic Medical Record (OpenEMR), and OpenEHR. We also found the trends in popularity of the EHR systems and the locations where they were more popular than others. OpenEMR met all the 32 functional criteria, OSHERA VistA met 28, OpenMRS met 12 fully and 11 partially, OpenEHR-based EHR met 10 fully and 3 partially, and GNU Health met the least with only 10 criteria fully and 2 partially.

    International Journal of Latest Trends in Engineering and Technology Special Issue SACAIM 2016, pp. 106-114 e-ISSN:2278-621X WELLNESS DATA SHARING FROM PERSONAL HEALTH RECORD (PHR) TO ELECTRONIC HEALTH RECORD (EHR) Sarita Pais1 and Xiaoci Xu2 Abstract- Patients have the option to maintain their health data and medical information in a Personal Health Record (PHR) system. However health professionals use different systems such as Electronic Health Record (EHR) to manage their patients' medical records. PHR systems provide greater benefits when integrated with EHR systems. The data and its format are different in the two systems. Hence this research project looks for solutions for data exchange between PHR and EHR systems. This research project followed design science research methodology to build an ecosystem and evaluate it through experiments using hypothetical data. Existing open source PHR and EHR systems were evaluated and literature related to PHR and EHR were reviewed in this project. HL7 is an international standard which is used for transferring health data between medical systems. This project set up the ecosystem using Microsoft HealthVault and OpenMRS. The ecosystem readthe data file containing blood glucose readings and converted the data into a format which Microsoft HealthVault can accept. Microsoft HealthVault exports the data in CCD/CCR data format. The ecosystem converted CCD/CCR data to CDA data format in OpenMRS. The ecosystem allowed the patient to share self- managed health data with health professionals and provided them with the patient’s background health data enabling better consultation with patients. The findings of this project is a proof of concept which can demonstrate that patient managed health data from PHR system can be integrated into EHR system.

    Implementing an Open Source EMR in a Nursing Informatics Course Nina Multak Emad Khazraee Michelle Rogers Prudence Dalrymple [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] Drexel University Abstract Electronic medical record (EMR) systems are being implemented widely in hospital and office based settings. This technology is becoming a standard documentation modality for inpatient and outpatient clinical settings. While practicing clinicians have learned to use these systems with the benefit of institutional or practice based training, the educational benefit of providing EMR training to students prior to their exposure to the clinical environment has not been widely explored. This preliminary research evaluated multiple EMR systems for educational use in a nursing school curriculum. EMR training including classroom lectures, computer based training sessions and practice with interdisciplinary medical simulation are incorporated in this educational program, providing students access to an EMR system before using one with actual patients. The ADDIE model of systemic instructional design was utilized for this study. Additionally, deliberate practice, an evidence-based construct grounded in information processing and behavioral theories of skill acquisition and maintenance guided the design of this study. Preliminary results reveal a high level of learner interest and satisfaction with the training methodology. Further exploration of EMR systems and the impact this component has on nursing education and practice are planned. The thesis consists of two main parts; selecting a suitable Open Source EMRS and developing an instructional unit for training students in order to use the EMRS. The Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) was used to select a suitable Open Source EMRS. The training unit uses eLearning, problem-based learning, and case study to optimize the teaching methods. The potential learning objectives are defined by using the Revised Bloom’s Taxonomy method. In the later parts, grading rubrics are created for the evaluation of the students’ learning outcomes, while the quantitative and qualitative data analysis methods are applied to the evaluation of the two questionnaires.
