A large body of published research exists regarding the physiology of breathing, the acoustics of singing, and solutions for specific vocal faults. There is similarly a growing body of research into the system of voice classification and repertoire assignment. This paper shall reexamine this research in light of baritenor voices. After establishing the general parameters of healthy vocal technique through appoggio, the various tenor, baritone, and bass Fächer will be studied to establish norms of vocal criteria such as range, timbre, tessitura, and registration for each Fach. The study of these Fächer includes examinations of the historical singers for whom the repertoire was created and how those roles are cast by opera companies in modern times.   • Howard J. Garber Letter Collection This Collection Was the Gift of Howard J
    Howard J. Garber Letter Collection This collection was the gift of Howard J. Garber to Case Western Reserve University from 1979 to 1993. Dr. Howard Garber, who donated the materials in the Howard J. Garber Manuscript Collection, is a former Clevelander and alumnus of Case Western Reserve University. Between 1979 and 1993, Dr. Garber donated over 2,000 autograph letters, documents and books to the Department of Special Collections. Dr. Garber's interest in history, particularly British royalty led to his affinity for collecting manuscripts. The collection focuses primarily on political, historical and literary figures in Great Britain and includes signatures of all the Prime Ministers and First Lords of the Treasury. Many interesting items can be found in the collection, including letters from Elizabeth Barrett Browning and Robert Browning Thomas Hardy, Queen Victoria, Prince Albert, King George III, and Virginia Woolf. In the Description of the Most Noble City of London^ by Fitz Stephen, a monk, about 1174, in treating of the ordinary diversions of the inhabitants of the metropolis, says, that, instead of the common interludes belonging to theatres, they have plays of a more holy subject. The ancient religious dramas were distinguished by the names Origin of the Stage. of mysteries, properly so called, wherein were exhibited some of the events of Scripture story, and miracles which were of the nature of tragedy, representing the acts of Martyrdom of a Saint of the Church. One of the oldest religious dramas was written by Gregory, entitled Christ's Passion, the prologue to which states that the Virgin Mary was then for the first time brought upon the stage. Supervisor: Dr J Newby Co-supervisor: Dr P H Fick May 2011. 2 ABSTRACT This study investigates the initial causes of Anglican division in South Africa in order to assess whether the three Evangelical parishes in the Cape Peninsula were justified in declining to join the Church of the Province of South Africa when it was formally constituted as a voluntary association in January 1870. The research covered the following: Background to the period in England and at the Cape, based on the histories pertinent to the period; An assessment of the differences in churchmanship between the Evangelicals and the Anglo-Catholics, through study of the applicable literature; A critical assessment of the character, churchmanship, aims, and actions of the first bishop of Cape Town, Robert Gray, drawn from the two-volume biography of his life, his journals and documents obtained in the archives; An analysis of the disputes between Bishop Gray and two Evangelical clergymen, analyzed from the published correspondence and archive material. The conclusion of the study is that the differences in churchmanship between the Evangelicals and the Anglo Catholics were very substantial and when coupled with the character, aims and actions of Bishop Gray, left the Evangelicals with little option but to decline the invitation to join his voluntary association. Orte und Länder Adelina Patti wurde als Kind italienischer Eltern in Mad- rid geboren. Ihre Kindheit verbrachte sie in New York. Nach ihrem Konzertdebut 1851 in dieser Stadt unter- nahm die Sopranistin Konzerttourneen durch Nordame- rika, Kuba, die Karibik, Kanada und Mexiko. Nach ihrem großen Erfolg 1861 in London trat sie in der englischen Musikmetropole regelmäßig über 40 Jahre auf. Auch auf der Pariser Opernbühne war die Sängerin kontinuierlich präsent. Weiterhin unternahm die Künstlerin regelmäßig Tourneen durch ganz Europa und sang in Städten wie Wien, Berlin, Hamburg, Dresden, Wiesbaden, Amster- Adelina Patti, Hüftbild von Ch. Reutlinger dam, Brüssel, Florenz, Nizza, Rom, Neapel, Madrid, Liss- abon, Petersburg und Moskau. Mehrere Konzertreisen führten Adelina Patti wiederholt nach Nord -, Mittel- Adelina Patti und Südamerika. 1878 kaufte die Sängerin in Wales das Ehename: Adelina Adela Cederström Schloss „Craig-y-Nos“ wo sie die Zeit zwischen den Varianten: Adelina de Cuax, Adelina Nicolini, Adelina Tourneen verbrachte. Auf diesem Schloss veranstaltete Cederström, Adelina Patti-Nicolini, Adelina Adela Juana die Künstlerin regelmäßig Konzertabende.
