Australia-headquartered Amcor Flexibles tops our 2011 ranking of Europe’s Top 40 producers and of flexible plastics films once again. The company’s European business has sales estimated at more than €2.2bn, bolstered by its recent acquisition of parts of Rio Tinto’s Alcan Packaging operation. Amcor is ahead of its nearest rival in Europe – Constantia Packaging – by more than e1.6bn in sales, according to European Plastics News estimates. And the company is likely to get even stronger. The Australian group’s purchase of Grupo Colines’ B-Pack Due cast film manufacturing division not only gave it more capacity but also its first cast film production capability. That, together with an exclusive supply deal for large BOPP lines, makes it a highly strate- gic purchase. Constantia Packaging, with estimated European sales of €655m, takes second place in this year’s ranking, followed by Nordenia International in third place with European sales of €560m. The other two players in the top five are British Polythene Industries (European sales of €515m) and Clondalkin Group (€470m). The top five companies together represent a European flexible films business worth more than €3.9bn and account for almost one third of the European sales of the 40 Consolidation continues to be a hallmark used data from filed accounts and annual companies featured in this report (Amcor of the flexible packaging sector.
