Cornwall’s own surf and music festival kicked off on Wednesday 5th August at the surfing mecca Fistral Beach, where the WSL (World Surf League) competitions took place. The music then opened on Friday 8 August at the stunning Watergate Bay site. The sold out Watergate Bay music site saw over 40,000 visitors attend across the weekend with highlights including headline sets from Bastille, Rudimental and Faithless. Plus astounding performances from the likes of Everything Everything, Sunset Sons, Seasick Steve, Reef, MNEK, Clean Bandit, Kim Churchill, Rae Morris, Nick Mulvey, Circa Waves, Raleigh Ritchie, Lower Than Atlantis, Laura Doggart, Lethal Bizzle, Rhodes and much much more. The Darkness’ Justin Hawkins was even seen ‘surfing’ through the crowd on a surfboard! Down at Fistral Beach, the surf, BMX and skate competitions got underway from Wednesday 5 August culminating in thrilling finals across the weekend. Peony Knight took the top spot winning the Rocket Dog Women’s Open fending off former Boardmasters champion Keshia Eyre. The WSL made a welcomed return to Boardmasters 2015 with a men’s and women’s Longbaord Qualifier competition. Edouard Delpero and Alice Lemoyne showed poise, agility and skill to be named winners. The Junior Divisions had to be halted because of the declining swell on Saturday so all eight boys in the Up&Go Junior Pro Semi Finals agreed to share the prize money and the Girls Up&Go Junior Pro contest saw four of the best up and coming surfers share the prize money equally. Eventual winner of the Skate competition, Alex Halford, took things to another level on the ramp in the skate competition and Alex Coleborn, one of the biggest names in BMXing, was crowned champion of the BMX Pro Final.
