An archaeological watching brief and trial excavation was carried out on improvements to the circuit. Medieval ridge and furrow were identified along with post-medieval gullies. A single pit and a rubble spread were the only features observed of a possible prehistoric date. Nine concrete blocks, possibly World War II barrage balloon moorings were also uncovered. [Au(abr)]

The watching brief was carried out in advance of the re-laying of the forecourt, as well as the installation of new drainage. Two stone structures were revealed that predated the east collonade at the front of the main house. The watching brief and building recording were undertaken as part of the replacement of the building with a new house. No evidence of an earlier building on the site was recovered. Subsequent to the dismantling of the roof a dendrochronology programme was undertaken. This showed that the main roof timbers dated to 1569. [Au(abr)]
