MGT/64/55 fGT/64/55 ~£age^2 THE TUXT OF THE GENERAL AGREMENT ON TARIFFS AND TRJ3E (a) The original text of the GATT was published by the United Nations in 1947 as the first of four volumes entitled Final Act adopted at the Conclusion of the Second Session of the Preparatory Committee of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Employment and General Clauses of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade. The other three volumes contain the Schedules of the tariff con cessions negotiated at Geneva. These volumes are available in English or Frenoh from United Nations Sales Agents, $5.00 the set. Since that time the text of the Agreement has been amended. (b) The present operative text of the GATT, containing all amendments to date. is published by the GATT secretariat in Basic Instruments and Selected Documents of the Contracting Parties, Volume I. See page 4 of this list. In March 1955 the Contracting Parties completed a review of the Agreement and opened for signature piobocols amending the Agreement. These amendments have not yet entered into force. The secretariat has published Final Act and Protocols of Amendment, and Agroement on the Organization for Trade Cooperation. It contains the Final Act adopted at the Ninth Session, the Protocol amending Part I and Articles XXIX and XXX, the Protocol amending the Preamble and Parts II and III, the Protocol of Organizational Amendments, and the Agreement on the Organization for Trade Cooperation. English and French versions are combined in one volume, obtainable only from the secretariat. Price 4 Sw. frs. (or oquivalent). A mimeographed Spanish language version is obtainable from the secretariat. (d) The secretariat has also published the text of the GATT as it will be after the amendments have entered into force, in Basic Instruments and Selected Documentsf Volume I (revised). Price 20 cents. ïGT/64/55 Page 4 The United Kingdom Government has published the revised text of the Agreement, showing changes from the present text, together with related documents (including the texts of relevant decisions and resolutions of the Contracting Parties) in Review of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade. Cmd. 9413. April 1955. BaSIC INSTRUMENTS AND SEIiiiCTED DOCUMENTS (.all volumes in this series are published in English and in French and are obtainable from United Nations Sales Agents.) Volume I, entitled Text of the Agreement and Other Instruments and Procedures, contains the present operative text of the General Agreement, the Annecy and Torquay Protocols, the Protocol of Provisional Application, and the Final Acts of Geneva and Torquay. It also contains the Rules of Procedure for Sessions of the Contracting Parties (including procedures for inter- sessional meetings), Procedures for Tariff Negotiations, and lists of all the Protocols and the signatories thereto. Volume I (revised) contains the text of the jigreement as it will be after the amendments drawn up at the Ninth Session enter into force, together with the Agreement on the Organization for Trade Cooperation. Volume II contains selected Decisions, Declarations, Resolutions, Rulings and Reports of the Contracting Parties, as well as Reports of Working Parties. Three Supplements to the Basic Instruments have been published. The First Supplement, published in March 1953# «ontains important Decisions, Resolutions, Recommendations and Working Party Reports which were adopted by the Contracting Parties between May and October 1952. The Second Supplement. published in January 1954; contains similar material for the period November 1952 to December 1953. The Third Supplement, published in June 1955, contains the Intersessional procedures, the Decisions and Resolutions taken at the Ninth Session, the Reports adopted at the Ninth Session, including the Reports relating to the Review of the Agreement, and a comprehensive index. A Spanish language edition of Volume I (revised) and the Third Supplement is being prepared. CONSOLIDATED SCHEDULES The Schedules to the GATT record the bound rates of customs duties resulting from the concessions negotiated by the governments which are con» tracting parties to the GATT, at the Geneva (1947), Annecy (194-9) and Torquay (1950-51) tariff conferences. The three sets of schedules resulting from these conferences, which are annexed to the Agreement and to the Annecy and Torquay Protocols, respectively, together with the rectifications and modifica tions which have been made effective through various protocols, up to and including those agreed at the Sixth Session, have been consolidated in a single text, the Consolidated Schedules of Tariff Concessions, which was published by the Contracting Parties in January 1952. The Schedules of the tariff concessions negotiated at Geneva in 1947 and incorporated in the Agreement are contained in Volumes II, III and I? of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade published by the United Nations in 1947, as stated on page 2. The Annecy Schedules of Tariff Concessions and the Annecy Protocol of Terms of Accession are contained in a similar volume published by ICITO in 1949, and obtainable from United Nations Sales Agents. Price: |7.00. English or French. (GATT/1951-1.)' Protocols to the Agreement From time to time the Schedules of Tariff Concessions annexed to the GATT have been modified by Protocols. So far, four Protocols of Rectifications and Modifications have been drawn up. In June 1955 a Protocol of Terms of .accession of Japan to the GATT was drawn up. This, together with Annexes setting out the tariff concessions of contracting parties and Japan, respectively, is available only from the GATT secretariat. English or French. Price fw.
