Oggi 9 Giugno, dopo tre giorni consecutivi con otto regioni dove l’aumento del numero totale di casi registrati rispetto a dieci giorni fa `einferiore a dieci, la provincia di Trento esce dalla lista, assieme alla Sardegna il cui dato oggi `einattendibile: Basilicata, Calabria, Valle D’Aosta, Umbria, Molise e la provincia di Bolzano. Le prime tre regioni, assieme alle Marche, al Friuli Venezia Giulia ed alla Puglia, oggi hanno valore nullo dell’incidenza. La Sardegna sembra giunta alla fine dell’epidemia, assieme all’Umbria, alla Calabria, alla Si- cilia e alla Basilicata. Anche Campania e Puglia si avvicinano sempre pi`ualla fine dell’epidemia. Allarme per il leggero rialzo dell’incidenza media per il Lazio e per l’aumento dell’incidenza in Basilicata e Molise dopo rispettivamente 16 ed 11 giorni a contagi nulli. Da monitorare anche la situazione in Emilia Romagna. Rimane preoccupante la situazione in Lombardia, Piemonte e Liguria, dove sono alti i valori medi dell’incidenza relativa, ossia rapportata alla popolazione della regione. Allarme anche nella provincia di Trento dove l’incidenza negli ultimi giorni `ein aumento. Ricordiamo inoltre che la Lombardia ed il Piemonte hanno oggi 1990 e 348 casi “in fase di definizione/aggiornamento”. Dopo circa 7-10 giorni dal primo rilascio di lockdown del 4 Maggio (primo segmento verticale nei grafici 1,2,4, prima x nel grafico 3), Liguria e Piemonte hanno diminuito la velocit`acon cui va a zero l’incidenza, mentre la provincia di Trento subisce addirittura un aumento. Dopo circa 7-10 giorni dal secondo rilascio di lockdown del 18 Maggio (secondo segmento verticale nei grafici 1,2,4, seconda x nel grafico 3), si ha analoga diminuzione di velocit`aanche per la Lombardia. Il terzo segmento verticale nei grafici 1,2,4 e la terza x nel grafico 3 corrispondono al 3 Giugno, inizio dei flussi tra regioni. Aumenta il valore misurato in Piemonte, ma percentualmente meno del significativo aumento dei tamponi, di pi`udel 50% circa rispetto a ieri. Diminuiscono i valori per la Lombardia e la Liguria mentre i tamponi aumentano rispettivamente di circa il 50 % e 30 %. Aumentano i tamponi in Valle D’Aosta (130 tamponi registrati rispetto ai 5 di ieri). Ricordiamo inoltre che la Lombardia ed il Piemonte hanno oggi 1990 e 348 casi “in fase di definizione/aggiornamento”. Di nuovo allarme per la provincia di Trento dove i valori dell’incidenza negli ultimi giorni sono in aumento. Situazione da monitorare con molta attenzione. Ryan Reference: IT-11/06 INTRODUCTION Article 35 of the Euratom Treaty requires that each Member State shall establish facilities necessary to carry out continuous monitoring of the levels of radioactivity in air, water and soil and to ensure compliance with the basic safety standards (1). Article 35 also gives the European Commission (EC) the right of access to such facilities in order that it may verify their operation and efficiency. For the EC, the Directorate-General for Energy (DG ENER) and in particular its Radiation Protection Unit (at the time of the visit ENER.D.4, now ENER.D.3) is responsible for undertaking these verifications. The main purpose of verifications performed under Article 35 of the Euratom Treaty is to provide an independent assessment of the adequacy of monitoring facilities for: - Liquid and airborne discharges of radioactivity into the environment by a site (and control thereof). - Levels of environmental radioactivity at the site perimeter and in the marine, terrestrial and aquatic environment around the site, for all relevant pathways. - Levels of environmental radioactivity on the territory of the Member State. Taking into account previous bilateral protocols, a Commission Communication has been published in the Official Journal on 4 July 2006 with a view to define some practical arrangements for the conduct of Article 35 verification visits in Member States.

Box 1346 Ann Arbor, Ml 48106-1346 Abstract This thesis compares Umbria before and after the Roman conquest in order to assess the impact of the imposition of Roman control over this area of central Italy. There are four sections specifically on Umbria and two more general chapters of introduction and conclusion. The introductory chapter examines the most important issues for the history of the Italian regions in this period and the extent to which they are relevant to Umbria, given the type of evidence that survives. The chapter focuses on the concept of state formation, and the information about it provided by evidence for urbanisation, coinage, and the creation of treaties. The second chapter looks at the archaeological and other available evidence for the history of Umbria before the Roman conquest, and maps the beginnings of the formation of the state through the growth in social complexity, urbanisation and the emergence of cult places.

The grey squirrel can also cause extensive damage to trees through bark-stripping, which affects re-growth and natural tree reproduction in commercial plantations and other forest ecosystems. The spread of grey squirrel in northern Italy represents a problem for the entire European continent, since from Italy the alien species is predicted to colonise surrounding countries, particularly France and Switzerland. Objectives The main objective of the EC-SQUARE project was to control and eradicate threats caused by grey squirrel (and other non-native squirrel species) in different socio-ecological contexts, in three different regions of northern Italy: Lombardy (Lombardia), Liguria and Piedmont (Piemonte). The aim was to produce a decision support system to identify the most efficient management strategy in each case, and to elaborate best practice guidelines for grey squirrel control and eradication. In addition, the project planned to carry out conservation actions in each region to improve habitat quality and/or connectivity of forests patches for red squirrel.     Tonnare in Italy: Science, History, and Culture of Sardinian Tuna Fishing 1 Katherine Emery The Mediterranean Sea and, in particular, the cristallina waters of Sardinia are confronting a paradox of marine preservation. On the one hand, Italian coastal resources are prized nationally and internationally for their natural beauty as well as economic and recreational uses. On the other hand, deep-seated Italian cultural values and traditions, such as the desire for high-quality fresh fish in local cuisines and the continuity of ancient fishing communities, as well as the demands of tourist and real-estate industries, are contributing to the destruction of marine ecosystems. The synthesis presented here offers a unique perspective combining historical, scientific, and cultural factors important to one Sardinian tonnara in the context of the larger global debate about Atlantic bluefin tuna conservation. This article is divided into four main sections, commencing with contextual background about the Mediterranean Sea and the culture, history, and economics of fish and fishing. Second, it explores as a case study Sardinian fishing culture and its tonnare , including their history, organization, customs, regulations, and traditional fishing method. Third, relevant science pertaining to these fisheries’ issues is reviewed. Lastly, the article considers the future of Italian tonnare and marine conservation options. Fish and fishing in the Mediterranean and Italy The word ‘Mediterranean’ stems from the Latin words medius [middle] and terra [land, earth]: middle of the earth. 2 Ancient Romans referred to it as “ Mare nostrum ” or “our sea”: “the territory of or under the control of the European Mediterranean countries, especially Italy.” 3 Today, the Mediterranean Sea is still an important mutually used resource integral to littoral and inland states’ cultures and trade.
