The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Community Discussions The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Community Discussions Logan rmfoerch 08/08/2017 7:39 AM t Event Closed Breath of the Wild Log: Part One -- A Grand Adventure Begins! Yup, I finally got this game. And yup, I'll be logging it. And yup, you can comment for notifications. E Yeah! e 20 r 95 Advertisement Share this Post 2 Share Embed Comment Logan 08/08/2017 7:53 AM Now, I haven't actually begun the game yet--I've only bought it--but I plan to start soon, possibly sometime tomorrow. Then, these next couple of weeks, I'll be kinda busy with different events, but after that, logging should happen more often and more consistently. E Yeah! e 2 Logan 08/08/2017 7:58 AM In the meantime, perhaps I'll lay out some goals... • I want to explore what this game offers, and not just follow the story. • Speaking of exploration, I want to know what stops me from exploring past the edge of the world. Endless ocean? Some unclimbable mountain? A horde of Lynels? =P • I plan to get the DLC at some point, so I will, hopefully, check out what that has to offer. E Yeah! e 3 Logan 08/08/2017 8:02 AM And I'm actually extremely tempted to play for the first time on Master Mode, even though I've been warned not to. What do you guys think? • I want to acquire the Hylian Shield and the Master Sword. No Zelda game would be complete without those two items. That's about all I can think of so far. I'm extremely excited to begin, and I hope I can soon! E Yeah! e 2 Logan 08/08/2017 8:09 AM Oh, and a quick side thing: Given how huge this game is, this log might not include every single little detail. However, you should see anything I deem noteworthy. Also, if you haven't played and want to avoid spoilers, know that I probably won't mark any. But please, don't spoil the game for me. This game is about discovery and exploration, and I want to do just that. E Yeah! e 3 ChumChu1 08/08/2017 10:17 AM ·Spoilers when you start the game, you will meet a --- --- (it was spoilers so i did that) you will want to get an item called the ---------- he will ask you to complete these things called ------- after that, you get the ---------- he asks you to do -- ----- village, the your journey begins! (sorry for spoilers ._.) E Yeah! e 0 D CriticsBro 08/08/2017 10:53 AM ·Spoilers my log: day one: messed up already E Yeah! e 0 D Christian 08/08/2017 4:28 PM Alrighty, then! I'll take you up on that. E Yeah! e 0 D Christian 08/08/2017 4:29 PM Also, no. Don't do Master Mode first. Save that for a second playthrough. E Yeah! e 0 D Ed 08/08/2017 5:33 PM DO NOT do Master Mode first. Too different from how the game was meant to be played originally. Some edges of the map are backed by canyons that aren't crossable (though they appear to be at a glance), others halt Link with a simple text box explaining "It's too dangerous beyond this point, turn around." E Yeah! e 1 Logan 08/08/2017 5:37 PM Huh. Well, I was gonna find out for myself while I played... But that's okay. I'll still go there to say I did so. I suppose, then, that I WON'T try Master Mode... I've heard that the game is hard enough anyway. Quoting GameXplain: "Zelda 1 hard." Speaking of which, in case you didn't see, Christian, I began part 2 of that log. E Yeah♥ e 2 Logan 08/08/2017 7:09 PM "Open your eyes. Wake up, Link." These are the words with which I begin this game. And so far, I gotta say, it looks great. And the voice acting seems pretty good so far too. ...Aaannd, my brother and sister are watching me and being distracting. I may have to tell them to leave. =P E Yeah! e 2 Logan 08/08/2017 7:22 PM Wow. What a view. *Capture taken* It's dangerous to go alone! Take this... stick. One hit on the ground: Your tree branch is badly damaged. E Yeah♥ e 2 Logan 08/08/2017 8:18 PM So I used the Sheikah Slate to activate the towers and shrines, then entered my first shrine, hoping to soon get the paraglider from this very strange old man. Pretty simple puzzles, and I got myself the Magnesis ability and found out that I can't have the paraglider yet. Apparently now I must find 3 more treasures from other shrines on the Plateau. But I love the old man. Favorite character so E Yeah! e 2 Logan 08/08/2017 8:21 PM far. Sorry, Link. Well, I entered another shrine--the bomb one--and almost killed myself for the second time. I almost drowned on the way to the first shrine. But bombs HURT, man! But I am loving this game so far, and I've barely begun. The story seems interesting enough, though I've heard it's nothing too special. The controls feel nice, with everything being pretty easy to use so far. And E Yeah! e 2 Logan 08/08/2017 8:25 PM it looks beautiful. I'm extremely excited to play more tomorrow! Oh, and I'm sure you guys may be wondering about my first "guardian" encounter. While the creature was immobile, I was still shown it's massive power... The easy way, fortunately. But those guys will be something to watch out for, for sure. E Yeah! e 2 ChumChu1 08/09/2017 3:07 AM if you like the voice acting, get to zelda (its the worst voice acting ever.) E Yeah! e 0 D CriticsBro 08/09/2017 7:35 AM hey at least it ain't... CDI ZELDA E Yeah! e 0 D Logan 08/09/2017 12:16 PM As I logged onto my Switch today and opened up this game, my mom said that we had to leave for an event soon. So, I put the console into sleep mode, undocked it, and packed it into my carry case. All in under a minute. I love this thing. E Yeah! e 1 Logan 08/09/2017 12:18 PM Anyway, I ran into a roadblock today: the last two shrines are in areas too cold to go into without takung damage. So, I had some fun exploring the plateau and slaying bokoblins and eventually came across some sort of food that, when cooked, allows me to resist the cold. That was fun! E Yeah! e 2 ChumChu1 08/09/2017 12:35 PM ·Spoilers CDI Zelda is the worst! i actaually want it cause of how bad it is, CDI is not the game for human beings.... CDI Ratings: IGN 10/10 human beings: -237453/13 i really need to stop making cringey puns and get back to making little kids rage.... E Yeah! e 0 D Sharky 08/09/2017 2:48 PM ·Spoilers If you do the recipe for the spicy meat and seafood fry, pepper, raw meat, and a hylian bass, bring it to the old man at his house, he will give you the warm doublet, which allows you to resist cold FOREVER E Yeah! e 0 D Logan 08/09/2017 6:08 PM Stasis rune acquired! And soon after, I had my first death, to a bokoblin with a flaming club. Ouch! E Yeah! e 1 CriticsBro 08/09/2017 8:35 PM ·Spoilers Mine was on my second Galamity Ganon, believe it or not. E Yeah!? e 0 D Sharky 08/10/2017 4:48 AM Mine was falling off of a cliff. On the plateu E Yeah... e 0 D Logan 08/10/2017 2:57 PM I got the Cryonis ability! I died to a blue bokoblin... All the Plateau shrines are complete! And as the Old Man directed me to the Temple of Time, he slowly faded away. I hope I see him again... E Yeah! e 2 ChumChu1 08/10/2017 2:58 PM ·Spoilers well, you will never see him again, only for a second after you beat ganon E Yeah... e 0 D Logan 08/10/2017 7:09 PM The old man revealed his true identity as the last king of Hyrule, and I was finally told of what happened 100 years ago. And SHEESH!! I have a HUGE task ahead of me! But anyway, now that I have the paraglider, I can leave the Plateau. King Rhoam directed me to Kakariko village, beyond the twin peaks. So unless you guys have any advice against that, I think I'll do it. ...In a roundabout way E Yeah! e 2 Logan 08/10/2017 7:13 PM of course. I've gotta do SOME exploring. ;) But that bit of story was pretty interesting. Now, I know from the trailers that these four Champions still live, and I'm pretty excited to meet them. And the fact that Link stood to the very end to protect Zelda is kinda inspiring. Nintendo seems to be good at creating characters that can kinda be good role models. And I like how the old man said E Yeah! e 1 Logan 08/10/2017 7:17 PM it would be reckless to go to the castle first, but the observant player may notice he never said you can't.

  • A Guide to the Videogame System
SYSTEM AND EXPERIENCE A Guide to the Videogame as a Complex System to Create an Experience for the Player A Master’s Thesis by Víctor Navarro Remesal Tutor: Asunción Huertas Roig Department of Communication Rovira i Virgili University (2009) © Víctor Navarro Remesal This Master’s Thesis was finished in September, 2009. All the graphic material belongs to its respective authors, and is shown here solely to illustrate the discourse. 1 ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS I would like to thank my tutor for her support, advice and interest in such a new and different topic. Gonzalo Frasca and Jesper Juul kindly answered my e-mails when I first found about ludology and started considering writing this thesis: thanks a lot. I also have to thank all the good people I met at the ECREA 2008 Summer School in Tartu, for giving me helpful advices and helping me to get used to the academic world. And, above all, for being such great folks. My friends, family and specially my girlfriend (thank you, Ariadna) have suffered my constant updates on the state of this thesis and my rants about all things academic. I am sure they missed me during my months of seclusion, though, so they should be the ones I thanked the most. Thanks, mates. Last but not least, I want to thank every game creator cited directly or indirectly in this work, particularly Ron Gilbert, Dave Grossman and Tim Schafer for Monkey Island, Fumito Ueda for Ico and Shadow of the Colossus and Hideo Kojima for the Metal Gear series. I would not have written this thesis if it were not for videogames like these.

  • Voice Games: the History of Voice Interaction in Digital Games
Teemu Kiiski Voice Games: The History of Voice Interaction in Digital Games Bachelor of Business Administration Game Development Studies Spring 2020 Abstract Author(s): Kiiski Teemu Title of the Publication: Voice Games: The History of Voice Interaction in Digital Games Degree Title: Bachelor of Business Administration, Game Development Studies Keywords: voice games, digital games, video games, speech recognition, voice commands, voice interac- tion This thesis was commissioned by Doppio Games, a Lisbon-based game studio that makes con- versational voice games for Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. Doppio has released games such as The Vortex (2018) and The 3% Challenge (2019). In recent years, voice interaction with computers has become part of everyday life. However, despite the fact that voice interaction mechanics have been used in games for several decades, the category of voice interaction games, or voice games in short, has remained relatively ob- scure. The purpose of the study was to research the history of voice interaction in digital games. The objective of this thesis is to describe a chronological history for voice games through a plat- form-focused approach while highlighting different design approaches to voice interaction. Research findings point out that voice interaction has been experimented with in commercially published games and game systems starting from the 1980s. Games featuring voice interaction have appeared in waves, typically as a reaction to features made possible by new hardware. During the past decade, the field has become more fragmented. Voice games are now available on platforms such as mobile devices and virtual assistants. Similarly, traditional platforms such as consoles are keeping up by integrating more voice interaction features.

Corpus Mundi. 2021. No 2 | ISSN: 2686-9055 Тело Чужого | httpps://doi.org/10.46539/cmj.v2i2.41 THE OBLIGATORY UNDERWATER LEVEL: POSTHUMAN GENEALOGY OF AMPHIBIAN HUMAN IN MEDIA Alesja Alesha Serada University of Vaasa. Vaasa, Finland. Email: aserada[at]uwasa.fi Abstract Will humankind ever be able to live underwater? To answer this question from the perspec- tive of visual media studies, I analyze narrative and expressive means used for positive repre- sentation of underwater experiences in several examples of screen media. My examples are principally diffeerent by origin and yet united by their highly enjoyable effeect of immersion into underwater worlds. My primary focus is on Amphibian Man (1928), a cult early science ficction novel by Alexandr Belyaev adapted for screen in 1962 in the USSR.I also explore its unintentionally close contemporary reproduction in Thee Shape of Water (2016), which even led to accusations in plagiarism. Thee third example is a contemporary independent video game ABZU by Giant Squid (2016), which replays the same theme of amphibian human exis- tence in a positive light. Theese cases present a surprisingly rare view of a safe, friendly and interactive marine world, approached by the protagonist who can breathe underwater. I apply the posthumanist lens to ficnd out that, surprisingly, aquatic cyborgs seem to be underrated by the queer thought (Haraway, 2015, 2016); I conclude that the model of ‘queer ecologies’ may become the needed development. • Infinite Lives Canonvorming Bij Videogames
Infinite Lives Canonvorming bij videogames Bjorn Schrijen (S4134281) Masterscriptie Letterkunde Onder begeleiding van prof. dr. Jos Joosten en dr. Martijn Stevens 2015 Abstract As with most other forms of culture, an implicit canon exists for video games. Though most players and video game scholars will have a general idea about which titles constitute this canon, there has been no academic research yet about the exact contents of it, or – more importantly – about the processes that lead to canonization. This knowledge could however be very interesting, as it would not only give insight in the way the game industry works, but possibly also in processes of canon formation for other media. This thesis therefore tries to gain insight in the way an implicit video game canon is formed. In order to do this, the game industry is observed from a theoretical framework based on the works of Pierre Bourdieu. Canonical games are defined as games that retain a high amount of both symbolic and economic capital over a long time, and the different parties within the game industry are seen as actors that can allocate these forms of capital to specific games. By systematically studying the different actors and existing writings about them, several hypotheses are drawn about the influence of each actor on canonization. These hypotheses are then tested using a dataset containing 77 games that can be considered canonical. This set was created by combining ten very diverse lists with the best 100 games ever made. As most of these lists are already the result of multiple people’s votes, and only the games are selected that appear in a majority of the lists, this dataset gives a fairly good impression of the implicit game canon.
