Peter Schäfer, Telgte Einleitung Die Erforschung der Wanzenfauna Nordrhein-Westfalens hat in den letzten Jahren einen starken Auftrieb erhalten, nicht zuletzt durch die Aktivitäten der neu gegründeten Arbeitsgruppe "Wanzen in NRW" (HOFFMANN & SCHÄFER 2006). Haben Kon & HoFFMANN (2003) noch 567 Arten gemeldet, so sind es in der aktuellen Checkliste von HoFMANNet al. (2011) bereits 608 Arten. Auch wenn in diesem nach ScHÄFER (2009) zweiten Beitrag des Autors zur regionalen Ökofaunistik von Wanzen keine Neufunde dabei sind, so liegen von den aufgeführten Arten doch bisher nur einzelne oder wenige publizierte Nachweise vor oder ihre Meldung ist aus anderen Gründen mitteilungs- würdig. Ausgewertet wurden verschiedene Sammlungen sowie an den Autor herangetragene Funde und eigene Aufsammlungen. Die Nomenklatur richtet sich nach dem ,Catalogue of the Heteroptera of the Palaearctic Region' (AUKEMA et al. 2013; AUKEMA & RIEGER 1996, 2001 ). Nach dem Erstfund Anfang der 1990er Jahre im Siebengebirge {GEILING & Düx 1993) gelangen weitere Nachweise erst wieder in den Jahren 2000 (Hagen; DREES 2009), 2006 (Truppen- übungsplatz Haltern-Borkenberge; ScHÄFER & HANNIG 2009) und 2010 (Dar- magen, NSG Hannepützheide; HOFFMANN 2011 ). -

Washington, DC 20402-9328 ISBN O-1 6-042075-X Foreword on-indigenous species (NIS)-----those species found beyond their natural ranges—are part and parcel of the U.S. landscape. Many are highly beneficial. Almost all U.S. crops and domesticated animals, many sport fish and aquiculture species, numerous horticultural plants, and most biologicalN control organisms have origins outside the country. A large number of NIS, however, cause significant economic, environmental, and health damage. These harmful species are the focus of this study. The total number of harmful NIS and their cumulative impacts are creating a growing burden for the country. We cannot completely stop the tide of new harmful introductions. Perfect screening, detection, and control are technically impossible and will remain so for the foreseeable future. Nevertheless, the Federal and State policies designed to protect us from the worst species are not safeguarding our national interests in important areas. These conclusions have a number of policy implications. First, the Nation has no real national policy on harmful introductions; the current system is piecemeal, lacking adequate rigor and comprehensiveness. Second, many Federal and State statutes, regulations, and programs are not keeping pace with new and spreading non-indigenous pests. -

2 Arthropods and Nematodes: Functional Biodiversity in Forest Ecosystems Pio Federico Roversi and Roberto Nannelli CRA – Research Centre for Agrobiology and Pedology, Florence Italy 1. Introduction Despite the great diversity of habitats grouped under a single name, forests are ecosystems characterized by the dominance of trees, which condition not only the epigeal environment but also life in the soil. Unlike other ecosystems such as grasslands or annual agricultural crops, forests are well characterized by precise spatial structures. In fact, we can identify three main layers in all forests: a canopy layer of tree crowns, including not only green photosynthesizing organs but also branches of various sizes; a layer formed by the tree trunks; a layer including bushes and grasses, which can sometimes be missing when not enough light filters through the canopy. To these layers must be added the litter and soil, which houses the root systems. Other characteristic features of forests, in addition to their structural complexity, are the longevity of the plants, the peculiar microclimates and the presence of particular habitats not found outside of these biocoenoses, such as fallen trunks and tree hollows. Even in the case of woods managed with relatively rapid cycles to produce firewood, forests are particularly good examples of ecosystems organized into superimposed layers that allow the maximum use of the solar energy. The biomass of forests is largely stored in the trees, with the following general distribution: ca. 2% in the leaves and almost 98% in trunks, branches and roots. In conditions of equilibrium between the arboreal vegetation and animal populations, saprophages, which use parts of plants and remains of organisms ending up in the litter, play a very important role. -

Working List of Prairie Restricted (Specialist) Insects in Wisconsin (11/26/2015) By Richard Henderson Research Ecologist, WI DNR Bureau of Science Services Summary This is a preliminary list of insects that are either well known, or likely, to be closely associated with Wisconsin’s original native prairie. These species are mostly dependent upon remnants of original prairie, or plantings/restorations of prairie where their hosts have been re-established (see discussion below), and thus are rarely found outside of these settings. The list also includes some species tied to native ecosystems that grade into prairie, such as savannas, sand barrens, fens, sedge meadow, and shallow marsh. The list is annotated with known host(s) of each insect, and the likelihood of its presence in the state (see key at end of list for specifics). This working list is a byproduct of a prairie invertebrate study I coordinated from1995-2005 that covered 6 Midwestern states and included 14 cooperators. The project surveyed insects on prairie remnants and investigated the effects of fire on those insects. It was funded in part by a series of grants from the US Fish and Wildlife Service. So far, the list has 475 species. However, this is a partial list at best, representing approximately only ¼ of the prairie-specialist insects likely present in the region (see discussion below). Significant input to this list is needed, as there are major taxa groups missing or greatly under represented. Such absence is not necessarily due to few or no prairie-specialists in those groups, but due more to lack of knowledge about life histories (at least published knowledge), unsettled taxonomy, and lack of taxonomic specialists currently working in those groups. -

E-mail: [email protected] ABSTRACT During the past approximate 25 years 84 Heteroptera species were published for the fi rst time for Austria. Th ese species account for 9.4 % of the 896 Heteroptera species currently known to occur in Austria and means that species were added at a rate of more than 3 per year, including previously overlooked species. Two thirds of the species (68 %) were overlooked for taxonomic reasons or because of their cryptic appearance or biol- ogy; the remaining species (32 %) are considered new arrivals. Excluding single records, 18 species (21 %) are considered established new arrivals. Th is is a rate of 0.72 species establishing per year. Most of these species are generally expanding their distribution and increasing in abundance in Austria and elsewhere in Europe and most species reached Austria probably due to current favourable climatic conditions (14 species), followed by species introduced with ornamental plants or transport (4 species). Th e dominance of arboricolous, phytophagous species with a high degree of host plant specialization cor- roborates previous fi ndings. -

D; E-20010 Donostia (Gipuzkoa); E-mail: [email protected] Abstract Plinthisus (Plinthisus) jordiribesi n. sp. is described from Totana, Murcia, Spain, in the subarid southeastern region of the Iberian Peninsula. Belonging to the brevipennis-group of species, it can be separated from the most closely related species (brevipennis, lepineyi, major, mehadiensis) by its greater size (3.5-4.3 mm), the shape of its parameres and other characters of external morphology. The habitus of both sexes and the paramere in different views are illustrated. Key words: Plinthisus (Plinthisus) jordiribesi n. sp., Heteroptera, Lygaeidae, Murcia, Iberian Peninsula, taxonomy. INTRODUCTION Ce document présente une liste des punaises trouvées dans le territoire du Québec et ses régions adjacentes. Elle résulte d’une revue de la littérature entomologique, d’un inventaire de collections appartenant à des organismes publics et à des entomologistes et d’une recherche sur internet. Provancher fut le premier à publier, de 1885 à 1890, un ouvrage d’identification des punaises pour le Canada, mais il donne très peu d’information sur la répartition des espèces. Uhler (1917) cite 163 espèces pour la province et 286 autres dans les régions adjacentes. Fournier (1950) mentionne que Moore (1950) catalogua 560 espèces et variétées. Hutchinson (1979), en se basant seulement sur la littérature entomologique, produisit une liste préliminaire de 101 punaises aquatiques et subaquatiques du Québec, mais cette liste comporte de nombreuses erreurs. Larochelle (1984) publia un important ouvrage d’identification sur les punaises terrestres du Québec, rapportant 488 espèces; en outre, il annexe une liste de 283 espèces et sous-espèces pouvant se rencontrer dans la province.
