Young, personable Jim Berry has taken over the reins of the Panthers and already he has made his presence felt even before the first game of the season. All Berry did in the short time since his selection in mid-March was to re cruit one all-regional cager (6-ll, one All-State selection (6-2) and two High School All-Americans (6-2, 6-9). A Waterloo native, Berry graduated from West Waterloo and moved on to Creighton University in Omaho, Nebraska where he earned two All-American honors in basketball during the late 50s. Fol lowing his graduation from Creighton in 1960, he remained to serve as the assistant coach and head baseball coach until 1962. A two-year stint in the armed forces followed but he continued coaching, directing service basket ball and baseball teams. His basketball squads chalked up a line 41-11 mark in two years.
