We will always be unified as friends first, and that is why we have lasted so long”. To celebrate 16 legendary years of pounding out head-banging, fist-pumping rock and roll together, on July 7, 2009, The Donnas unleash a career-spanning retrospective entitled The Donnas Greatest Hits Vol 16, on their own Purple Feather Records. FRIDAY THE DONNAS JUNE 15 8:15PM – 9:45PM WEST STAGE – ROCK TWENTY-TWELVE “I am so glad we decided to make a Greatest Hits because it let us re- live some of the best moments of our career” says power-house lead singer Brett Anderson. “Part of the charm of those early songs is their lo-fi sound, but it was fun to give them a super- charged makeover now that we've played them live so many times”. The 16 track hits package features two brand new songs, two never- before-heard bsides from their self- released 2007 album Bitchin’, and live versions of hits “Take It Off” and “Fall Behind Me”. And Donnaholic super- geeks rejoice: also included are “I Don’t Wanna Break Your Head” and “Teenage Rules”, two extremely rare, unreleased tracks from the band’s now-classic debut album. “We’re very excited about those two tracks” says Allison Robertson. “They were meant to be released in Japan years ago but never came out. We thought they were long gone, and all we had were foggy yet fond memories of how the tunes actually went." The Donnas also re-recorded five tracks, remixed one and included two alternative versions of songs from their hugely influential Lookout! Records catalog (1998- 2001). “Re-recording our older songs was like opening a time capsule” says Brett.” I could almost smell the donuts baking in the middle of the night next to the Mail Boxes Etc. where we recorded our very first songs”. The Donnas: a four-way, equal partnership of women in friendship, art and business. A rare trust exists between these members that most bands could never dream of achieving in a similar group dynamic. That is why most bands break up and The Donnas continue to stick together and thrive, celebrating sixteen candles… and counting. … and when they come back to rock Canada, the whiskey is on me. - Grant Lawrence, Rock and Roll MUsic JOUrnalist, VancoUver BC Canada FRIDAY JASMINE CAIN JUNE 15 6:15PM – 7:45PM WEST STAGE – ROCK TWENTY-TWELVE Picture a gothic cathedral in a forgotten forest. Sound pulses with the wind as banchees on nightmares gallop to pay homage to their queen. This is the magic of Jasmine Cain. She brings her gifts to the stage, and though small in stature, her voice can echo the halls where she is performing and beyond as if coming directly from the gates of heaven. Her melodies draw you in like a siren's call to the rocks, conjuring ghosts and angels, mixing mirth and magic. She flashes demon eyes one moment, only to skip across the stage with lilting laughter the next. She is a mythic rock goddess with hair aflame, then, just a quickly, a pixie with an axe looking for mortals to mesmerize. She is Jasmine Cain. Known for setting the stage on fire at biker runs and rallies across the country, Jasmine's music is both raw and sweet. In September 2009, she broke the record for most awards in the history of the Just Plain Folks (JPF) Awards in Nashville, winning a mind blowing six awards for all unsigned artists worldwide! Her new CD, Locks & Keys includes 10 incredible songs, from hard- driving rock to powerful ballads and even a bit of southern rock. One listen will convince you that Jasmine Cain is poised to take over the rock world, one devotee at a time. T FRIDAY H E FILTER KINGS JUNE 15 8:00PM – 9:30PM CENTER STAGE – OUTLAW COUNTRY TWENTY-TWELVE "Mark displays great instincts for the best traditions of American blues-based guitar playing, for the classic tones and colors of the electric instrument - you can hear influences ranging from Hendrix to modern takes, like Robben Ford, Colin James or even a hint of Chris Isaaks.

PERFORMED IDENTITIES: HEAVY METAL MUSICIANS BETWEEN 1984 AND 1991 Bradley C. Klypchak A Dissertation Submitted to the Graduate College of Bowling Green State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY May 2007 Committee: Dr. Jeffrey A. Brown, Advisor Dr. John Makay Graduate Faculty Representative Dr. Ron E. Shields Dr. Don McQuarie © 2007 Bradley C. Klypchak All Rights Reserved iii ABSTRACT Dr. Jeffrey A. Brown, Advisor Between 1984 and 1991, heavy metal became one of the most publicly popular and commercially successful rock music subgenres. The focus of this dissertation is to explore the following research questions: How did the subculture of heavy metal music between 1984 and 1991 evolve and what meanings can be derived from this ongoing process? How did the contextual circumstances surrounding heavy metal music during this period impact the performative choices exhibited by artists, and from a position of retrospection, what lasting significance does this particular era of heavy metal merit today? A textual analysis of metal- related materials fostered the development of themes relating to the selective choices made and performances enacted by metal artists. These themes were then considered in terms of gender, sexuality, race, and age constructions as well as the ongoing negotiations of the metal artist within multiple performative realms. Occurring at the juncture of art and commerce, heavy metal music is a purposeful construction. Metal musicians made performative choices for serving particular aims, be it fame, wealth, or art. These same individuals worked within a greater system of influence. Metal bands were the contracted employees of record labels whose own corporate aims needed to be recognized.

  • Devon Allman, Son of Gregg Allman of the Allman Brothers Band, Leads His Band Called Honey Tribe and He Is a Member of Royal Southern Brotherhood As Well
Singer/guitarist Devon Allman, son of Gregg Allman of the Allman Brothers Band, leads his band called Honey Tribe and he is a member of Royal Southern Brotherhood as well. Now Devon has recorded his first solo album that is made up songs that are written about his personal life along with one Tom Petty cover song. The 2013 International Blues Challenge was held in Memphis from January 29 – February 2. Ghost Town Blues Band from Memphis did not win, but they did make it to the top ten. They have released two excellent albums and can be seen performing at many local venues. Former Memphian Little G. Weevil won the solo/duo category and best guitarist in that category at the IBC. His excellent album The Teaser is a great example of why he won. Boz Scaggs came to Memphis to record his new album titled, surprisingly enough, Memphis. Most surprising is how well he handles the soul and blues songs on Memphis. Devon Allman – Turquoise Devon Allman is Gregg Allman’s son, but he grew up with his mom in Corpus Christi, Texas, away from the rock & roll lifestyle. He didn’t even meet his dad until he was a teenager, but they are now very close. While Devon was influenced by The Allman Brothers, he was also influenced by a myriad of other musicians and styles of music, so he really doesn’t sound much like The Allman Brothers. Devon has his own unique sound, both in his guitar playing and his singing. Some have tried to compare him to his uncle Duane, but aside from both having blonde hair and favoring Les Paul guitars, there aren’t a lot of similarities.
