The council and police have issued a warning following a spate of 25 burglaries from May to July in the East Riding. Councillor Evison said: “Thieves have been targeting high value cars during the night. They have been breaking into homes and stealing the keys. “By alerting residents and putting them on their guard we aim to reduce this type of crime.” PC Beeforth, of the East Riding safe communities team, said: “Thieves have been looking through windows to see if they can see the keys. On one occasion, they even reached through a cat fl ap to steal car keys. “We would urge owners to hide their car keys within the house so they cannot easily be found.
