OUR LADY OF LOURDES PARISH FAMILY, DUNEDIN, FL Twenty-second Sunday in Ordinary Time

Scripture Readings Next Week September 5 23rd Sunday in Ordinary Time Cardinal Chibly Langlois Is 35:47a Ps 146:710 Jas 2:15 Mk 7:3137

Mass Intentions SATURDAY, AUGUST 28 Fr. Gary writes: St Augustine 5:00PM The Members of the Parish SUNDAY, AUGUST 29 A number of you have asked about our twin parish and school of the 22nd Sunday in Ordinary Time Sacred Heart in Acul des Pins, , in light of the recent devastating 7:30AM William Welch earthquake. Our twin parish is in the north east of the country, the 9:30AM † The Palumbo Family earthquake was in the south, the epicenter around the city of Les 11:30AM † Thomas & Yolanda Papinga Caynes. On our last visit we travelled to Les Caynes to meet the 5:00PM † Abraham & Theresa Jimenez Cardinal, Chibly Langlois, the first ever Haitian Cardinal, appointed MONDAY, AUGUST 30 by in 2014. He is a wonderful man, and greeted us 9:00AM † John & Theresa Stacknick with such love and grace in 2018. He was visiting a parish when the † Adele Werner earthquake struck. While he survived, the house he lived in (where we visited him) collapsed, and one of the priests who shared the TUESDAY, AUGUST 31 rectory was killed. Five other rectories were destroyed, along with a 9:00AM † Joe Toomey number of schools and convents. Haiti seems to go from one WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 1 disaster to another, one crisis to another. Just a few weeks ago, World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation President Jovenel Moise was assassinated in his residence. We met 9:00AM † Mildred, Steve, Helen Popson the President, and his wife, at Mass on our last visit. Covid19 is † Charles Spencer rampant with little availability to vaccines. Haiti, being the poorest THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 2 country in the Western Hemisphere, seems to go from one crisis to 9:00AM † Stephen Pejka another. The situation would be more dire without the love that flows from the , providing much of the medical, social and FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 3 educational needs of the Haitian people. Bishop Parkes has sent St Gregory the Great, Pope $50,000 from our Diocese, and are 9:00AM † The Rardin Family providing emergency aid. If you wish to make a monetary gift, please SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 4 do so through Catholic Relief Services: www.crs.org. We will Blessed Virgin Mary continue to support our twin parish and school, and I thank you for 5:00PM † Don & Polly Kibbey your continued love and generosity. You are beacons of hope, vehicles of love and channels of faith. SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 5 23rd Sunday in Ordinary Time Pope Francis has once again spoken about the merits of vaccination 7:30AM The Members of the Parish in combating the Covid19 pandemic, describing it as an “act of 9:30AM † Vincent LaBanco love.” He urges us to get vaccinated: “Thanks to God’s grace and the 11:30AM † Janice Stewart work of many, we now have vaccines to protect us from Covid19. 5:00PM † Gilda Lavenia They bring hope to end the pandemic, but only if they are available to all and if we collaborate with one another.” He added: “Getting the vaccines that are authorized by the respective authorities is an act of love. And helping the majority of people to do so, is an act of love. Love for oneself, love for our families and friends, and love for all peoples. Getting vaccinated is a simple yet profound way to care for another, especially the most vulnerable. I pray to God that each one Parish Mission Statement of us can make his or her own small gesture of love. No matter how “Our Lady of Lourdes Parish is a family of believers, small, love is always grand. Small gestures for a better future.” The embraced by the Father’s love, nourished by Jesus of Los Angeles, Jose Gomez, President of the United in Word and Sacrament, and strengthened by the States Conference of Catholic Bishops, echoed the words of the Holy Spirit. Inspired by Mary we commit ourselves to Pope: “The terrible coronavirus pandemic has caused illness, death live and proclaim the Gospel of Salvation.” and suffering across the entire world. May God grant us the grace to face it with the strength of faith, ensuring that vaccines are available for all, so that we can all get immunized.” We take Christ’s words to heart, “Be not afraid, I am with you Altar Servers GREEN Team Sept 4-5 always.” Amen!

WE ARE COURAGEOUSLY LIVING THE GOSPEL

STEWARDSHIP REFLECTION HEARING AND DOING It is made clear throughout the Gospels and Epistles that our discipleship, as followers of Jesus, is not over until our bodily death. In today’s second reading we are urged, “Be doers of the word and not hearers only” (James 1:22). Discipleship is hard. Sometimes we have “reasons” why we cannot do thingsNwe are too tired, too old, too sick, too needy. We are too busy with work, with children, with other responsibilities. Yet some of the best “prayers” are people confined by illness or disability. Some of the wisest listeners are the elderly, who have a lifetime of patience and wisdom to draw on. Some of the most generous givers are those who have endured poverty and suffering themselves. Some of the most admired organizers are those who delegate and let a tiny fixed income cannot give large donations to the church or other people shine. And let us not forget the charity. However, the busy mother can talk to God as she chases heroes who put their lives on the line in time after her little ones. The hardworking man can help with an of crisis. Not everyone is called to heroism, occasional parish event, and the person with a limited income can but all of us are called to live generously and put a steady few dollars in the collection each week. Everyone can selflessly. The opportunities are endless: in be a “doer.” our families, our parish, our neighborhood or town, and in places around the world. Try to Living Stewardship Now balance prayer, action and financial giving. A What is your offering of stewardship, in gratitude for God’s busy mother with three toddlers can hardly goodness? There are many challenges in life, and if we 797-7412 or visit www.divineprovidence.org. incorporate different exercises into our daily life, we can achieve strength, perseverance, selfconfidence, and happiness. Anaerobic exercise is fast paced and shorter in duration, and includes high intensity sports like weight- lifting, high intensity interval training, jumping, and sprinting. These exercises strengthen muscles and assist in burning calories and losing fat. The energy system “without oxygen” pushes our bodies and lungs to rely on energy sources stored in our muscles, breaking down glucose for energy, which is called “glycolysis.” This process produces lactic acid in the muscles and is why we get tired after the energy burst. The benefit of regular anaerobic exercise is that it enables our bodies to be more efficient in eliminating lactic acid and therefore we feel tired less quickly. This type of exercise increases bone strength and density, boosts metabolism, fights depression, reduces the risk of disease, protects the joints, and increases our energy to be more productive in Celtic Music in the Conmy life.
