Newport Clavering & District Royal British Legion At our September meeting at The Bull, we looked both forwards and backwards at our activities. Since our last meeting our Legion gazebo has been to Brent Pelham Countryside Show (where it attracted much attention) and at Langley Fete, where a large crowd had the opportunity to see a display of WW2 field hospital equipment. This provoked much interest, together with Legion pamphlets & etc. On the 18th September, we are supporting the talk at Clavering Christian Centre, on the theme of the RAF WW2 airfields around Clavering. On Saturday 12th October, Ben Blackaby and Dean Smith are going to be the ‘Hares’ trying to evade capture by enthusiastic ‘Hounds’. Publicity will be in the media, Facebook and posters etc. It’s all centred on The Bull where we anticipate a good turnout of ‘Hounds’ and spectators. In our next report we hope to tell you about one of our Members, ‘Brett’, who will have taken part in the 75th Arnhem Reunion. He will drive an American WW2 tipper lorry in a parade of over 300 vehicles crossing over the eight bridges, leading up to Pegasus Bridge where he will lay a wreath from our Branch. We await with interest his telling us of his experiences, which will be covered on television and in the press.

From 1st October RBL subscriptions are due for 2020 - all of £17 - excellent value for such a Charity. Malcolm Smither

Website Link to report Highway problems to Essex County Council http://www.essexhighways.org/transport-and-roads.aspx This website page can be used to report problems (such as potholes, traffic lights not working, pavement/kerb/drainage defects, overgrown trees or hedges, blocked/damaged footpaths, and more). We encourage parishioners to use this service as we find that Essex CC responds more swiftly to problems reported on-line and also a reference number for the report is generated immediately.
