THE BIKINIS A New Musical Beach Party There is a band platform USC. DS of the band platform there is a row of 4 wireless handheld microphones on stands with a playing space DC. Two canvas awning-style “beach changing cabanas” sit DR and DL for THE BIKINIS for props and minimal quick changes. Upstage and over the bandstand is a stretched piece of fabric for projecting lighting, imagery and video effects. As the audience enters the theatre, a “slideshow” of photographic images of the “fun in the sun” and “the world of the beach” in the 60’s is playing on the fabric to the sound instrumental “surfer” music. House lights fade as a slide is projected “Good Bye 1999, Hello 2000!” Band kicks in! LIVE V/O Ladies and Gentlemen, back together, for the first time in twenty years, please welcome THE BIKINIS! BARBARA I used to buy a two piece. Now I buy a three piece. A top, a bottom and a blindfold. BARBARA hands the bikini top to KARLA. Hey, this has your name in it. JODI Maybe you should try it on? KARLA Maybe I should burn it? You know, it was thirty six years ago we first sang this song together. BARBARA …36 years and 500 sizes ago!… KARLA On the Boardwalk at Belmar Beach. BARBARA 1964. ANNIE The Jersey Shore. KARLA Or if you’re “Jersey Girls” like us… ALL Da Shore! JODI It was the afternoon of the Belmar Beach Talent Contest. Someone grabbed my sister, Annie and me off the beach to sing… KARLA (Raising hand) Guilty. ANNIE But Jodi and I refused to sing unless Karla and Barbara did too… BARBARA So we did… Page 9

ANNIE As we were running up onto the Gazebo to get our trophy the judge says “What do you call yourselves?” KARLA And there we were, having come right off the beach in our…Well, we’re… ALL THE BIKINIS! BUM, BUM, BUM, BA DUM, BUM, BUM, BUM, BUM OOO JODI This one trophy was all it took. BARBARA We were going to become the number one girl group in America! KARLA Bigger than The Shangri-Las! JODI Our idols. ANNIE They were a girl group from Queens. Two pairs of sisters who shot to stardom after appearing on Dick Clark’s American Bandstand. JODI If they could do it, so could we! They all put on white gloves. KARLA All we needed to do was get on American Bandstand. BARBARA But to do that, you had to have a 45. KARLA Remember 45s? ANNIE So our manager… Page 10

JODI That’s me. ANNIE …called The Hoboken Recording Studios. JODI $875.00! KARLA To make one 45! Can you believe… ANNIE For one little record. BARBARA We didn’t have that kind of money. JODI Not yet we didn’t, but I had a plan. ANNIE Here we go. JODI The first thing we needed was exposure. KARLA As if singing in our bikinis wasn’t enough. JODI Valerie Johnson’s “Sweet 16” party! ANNIE She lived one beach up, in ‘Avon by The Sea.’ KARLA She had the biggest house. BARBARA (Indicating boobs) And the biggest personalities…talk about your coming out party. ANNIE Which is exactly why her parents restricted it to “girls only.” BARBARA …a “girls only” gowns and gloves event…what’s the point? JODI We had to learn 5 songs in a week and a half.
