Dr Bindu Menon, neurology chief, Apollo Hospitals, speaking at an awareness programme on paralysis in Nellore on Saturday | EXPRESS ‘Less intake of salt helps prevent paralysis’

EXPRESS NEWS SERVI C E @ Nellore

ONE person is getting affected by paralysis every two seconds in the world and about 16 million people are affected with this across the globe, said Dr Bindu Menon, neurology chief, Apol- lo Hospitals. Apollo Hospitals organised a special awareness programme here on Saturday to mark World Paralysis Day. Dr Bindu Menon talked about the stalls set up at the hospi- tal to create awareness on paralysis. She said even people aged between 25 and 40 years were getting affected with pa- ralysis. Symptoms of paralysis must be identified at the earli- est and the patients be shifted immediately to the hospital. About 40 to 50 per cent patients successfully recovered from paralysis after they were shifted to the hospital, said Dr Bindu Menon. She also suggested intake of less salt to pre- vent paralysis. Every person must take only 2.4 grams of salt per day and excess intake would raise health issues. She sug- gested the students to do exercise daily to keep the body healthy and avoid giving junk food. Apollo Hospitals Nellore unit head Navin Reddy, hospital superintendent Swetha Red- dy and others were present.
