FFORTS towards unity among certain Protestant groups E have been considered newsworthy of late by the secular press. One has in mind the projected unity among Presby­ terians and the Protestant Episcopal Church of America and the apparently accomplished unity among the divisions of Methodists last year. Many reasons may be assigned for these attempts and successes, but it would be impossible to under­ stand adequately this movement among the denominations without some idea of the missionary development of these groups. The rapid geographical extension of denominational* ism, almost exclusively the work of a century and a quarter, with its consequent enormous expenditures of money and per­ sonnel has had two effects upon denominationalism. In the first place, it has impressed upon the groups the necessity for unity in view of the weakness of division, and secondly it has at the same time complicated the attainment of the unity. Confronted with the millions of pagans in a country such as China or India, the denomination eventually realized the futility and practical impossibility of cutting into such a large mass of error and ignorance by its own individual efforts. The 210 THEOLOGICAL STUDIES denomination necessarily looked about for kinship with other forms of Christianity for the sake not merely of numerical advance but even of survival in the face of such overwhelming odds. It soon became painfully obvious, after the first rush of zeal, that such a mass could not be Christianized by the Lutherans alone, nor the Baptists alone, especially when the de­ nomination had to face the opposition both of paganism and of divergent groups of Christianity.

    Indresh Kumar had given all co-operation to the CBI : Dr. Vaidya By : INVC Team Published On : 12 Mar, 2011 12:51 AM IST INVC,, Puttur, RSS national annual meet Akhil Bharatiya Pratinidhi Sabha (ABPS) was inaugurated today morning at Vivekananda College Premises, Puttur. Mohanji Bhagwat, Sarasanghachalak, lighted the traditional lamp as well as unfurled the coconut flower as part of the local tradition. Vedic chanting along with traditional panchavadyam were resounding the premises. Mr Suresh Joshi, Sarakaryavah was also present in Dias. Around 1400 delegates from across the country are participating in this 3-day annual meet. Office bearers of various organisations inspired by Sangh including VHP, Bharateeya Kisan Sangh which works among farmers, Vanavasi Kalyan Ashram – a tribal welfare organization; Akhil Bharateeya Vidyarthi Parishad – one of the biggest students’ organization in the country; Bharateeya Mazdoor Sangh – a leading trade union; Bharatiya Janata Party – one of the leading nationalistic political party of Bharat are in attendance. This apart, Office bearers of Vidhya Bharati, Vijnana Bharati, Kreeda Bharati, Seva Bharati, Samskrit Bharati, Samskar Bharati, Laghu Udyog Bharati as well as leaders from Rashtra Sevika Samithi, Swadeshi Jagaran Manch, Deendayal Samshodhan Samsthan, Bharat Vikas Parishad, Shaikshanika Mahasangh, Dharma Jagaran are also part of the conclave.     India Page 1 of 22 India International Religious Freedom Report 2006 Released by the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor The constitution provides for freedom of religion, and the Government generally respected this right in practice. However, the Government sometimes did not act swiftly enough to counter effectively societal attacks against religious minorities and attempts by some leaders of state and local governments to limit religious freedom. This resulted in part from legal constraints on national government action inherent in the country's federal structure and from shortcomings in its law enforcement and justice systems, although courts regularly upheld the constitutional provision of religious freedom. Despite Government efforts to foster communal harmony, some extremists continued to view ineffective investigation and prosecution of attacks on religious minorities, particularly at the state and local level, as a signal that they could commit such violence with impunity, although numerous cases were in the courts at the end of the reporting period. While the National Government took positive steps in key areas to improve religious freedom, the status of religious freedom generally remained the same during the period covered by this report. The United Progressive Alliance (UPA) continued to implement an inclusive and secular platform based on respect for the country's traditions of secular government and religious tolerance, and the rights of religious minorities. Terrorists attempted to provoke religious conflict by attacking Hindu Temples in Ayodhya and Varanasi. The Government reacted in a swift manner to rein in Hindu extremists, prevent revenge attacks and reprisal, and assure the Muslim community of its safety.

    Preface Pilgrimage places like Varanasi, Prayag, Haridwar and Vrindavan have always got prominent place in any pilgrimage of the devotees and its importance is well known. Many mythological stories are associated to these places. Though Orissa had many temples, historical places and natural scenic beauty spot, but it did not get so much prominence. This may be due to the lack of connectivity. Buddhism and Jainism flourished there followed by Shaivaism and Vainavism. After reading the lives of Sri Chaitanya, Sri Ramakrishna, Holy Mother and direct disciples we come to know the importance and spiritual significance of these places. Holy Mother and many disciples of Sri Ramakrishna had great time in Orissa. Many are blessed here by the vision of Lord Jagannath or the Master. The lives of these great souls had shown us a way to visit these places with spiritual consciousness and devotion. Unless we read the life of Sri Chaitanya we will not understand the life of Sri Ramakrishna properly. Similarly unless we study the chapter in the lives of these great souls in Orissa we will not be able to understand and appreciate the significance of these places. If we go on pilgrimage to Orissa with same spirit and devotion as shown by these great souls, we are sure to be benefited spiritually. This collection will put the light on the Orissa chapter in the lives of these great souls and will inspire the devotees to read more about their lives in details. This will also help the devotees to go to pilgrimage in Orissa and strengthen their devotion.

For example, Dr. E. Frauwallner points out that there are two Buddhist philosophers who bear the name Vasubandu." Both of these philosophers are believed to have written important works that are attributed to that name. A similar situation can sometimes be found in the Jaina tradition, and sometimes the situation arises even when the philosophers are in different traditions. For exam- ple, there are two Indian philosophers who are called Haribhadra, one in the Jain tradition, and one in the Buddhist tradition. This paper will argue that one philosopher named Siddhasena, the author of the famous Jaina work, the Sammatitarka, should be distinguished from another philosopher with the same name, the author of the Nvavavatara, a work which occupies an equally important position in Jaina philosophy- 2) One reason to argue that the authors of these works are two different persons is that the works are written in two different languages : the Sammatitarka in Prakrit ; the Nvavavatara in Sanskrit. In the Jaina tradition, it is extremely unusual for the same author to write philosophical works in different languages, the usual languages being either Prakrit or Sanskrit, but not both. Of course, the possibility of one author using two languages cannot be completely eliminated. For example, the Jaina philosopher Haribhadra uses both Prakrit and Sanskrit. But even Haribhadra limits himself to one language when writing a philosophical .work : his philosophical works are all written in Sanskrit, and he uses Prakrit for all of his non-philosophical works.
