Introduction This report examines air-to-surface access integrated ticketing in support of one of the Department for Transport’s (DfT) six policy objectives in the proposed new avia- tion strategy – “Helping the aviation industry work for its customers”. Integrated Ticketing is defined as the incorporation of one ticket that includes sur- face access to/from an airport and the airplane ticket itself using one transaction. Integrated ticketing may consider surface access journeys both to the origin airport and from the destination airport. We recognise that some of the methods of inte- grated ticketing might not be truly integrated (such as selling rail or coach tickets on board the flight), but such examples were included in the report to reflect that these exist and that the customer experience in purchasing is relatively seamless. -

Alstom has been at the heart of the UK’s rail industry for over a century, building many of the UK’s rail vehicles, half of London’s Tube trains and delivering tram systems. A third of all rail journeys take place on Alstom trains including the iconic Pendolino trains on the West Coast Mainline, which carry 34 million passengers a year. Building on its history, Alstom continues to innovate. One of its most important projects is hydrogen trains—its Coradia iLint has been in service in Germany and Austria, and with Eversholt Rail, it has developed the ‘Breeze’ hydrogen train for the UK. Alstom’s state-of-the-art Transport Technology Centre in Widnes in the Liverpool City Region is its worldwide centre for train modernisation and is where the conversion of trains to hydrogen power will take place. It is among 12 other sites in the UK including Longsight in Manchester and Wembley in London. Across the world Alstom has developed, built and maintained transport systems including high speed rail in every continent that has high speed rail, and mass transit metros and trams schemes including in Nottingham and Dublin. -

Out of two potential build alternatives—Alternative 1, which would improve Word Count 717 the existing Amtrak route, and Alternative 2, which would create a new route along Interstate 5 between Springfield and Oregon City—ODOT has identified “One of the stated Alternative 1 as the preferred alternative. Licensed under CC BY 2.0 / image cropped. 3 Commons Library Briefing, 4 December 2018 Summary This paper provides a brief outline of the GB rail industry, including the bodies responsible for delivering services, how new schemes are chosen and financed. Following privatisation in 1993, British Rail was divided into two main parts: one part being the national rail infrastructure (track, signalling, bridges, tunnels, stations and depots) and the second being the operating companies whose trains run on that network. The infrastructure is owned by Network Rail which is regulated by the Office of Rail and Road (ORR).
