Ballet Flyer.Pdf For ballet fans, as well as those interested in the dance arts, A Life for Ballet offers a stunning look at the master Pierre Lacotte and his impressive ca- reer. Lacotte and his wife and dance partner, Ghislaine Thesmar, influenced the world of ballet with their work, including adaptations of romantic bal- lets such as Coppelia in Shanghai in 2002, Daughter of the Danube in Tokyo in 2007 and La Sylphide in 2011 in Vienna and Moscow. Thesmar was Prima Ballerina in La Sylphide in Buenos Aires and Tokyo and in Swan Lake with Ruolf Noureev, and has been an esteemed professor at the Opera de Paris. This film explores the ballet over a span of 60 years, including new archival footage, and features ballet greats such as Rudolph Noureev, Agnes Let- estu, Michael Denard, Evgenia Obratsova, and Svetlana Zakharova. While Lacotte’s accomplishments are far too lengthy to list, some of the most significant ones are his reconstruction of Swan Lake for the Ballet National de Nancy, where he was artistic director from 1991 to 1999, and also recreating Ondine at the request of Makhar Vasiev, set to the music of Cesare Pugni. Lacotte had to recreate the entire ballet from scratch, which was re-choreographed by Marius Petipa in 1874, and had underwent several adaptations since then. The only original documentation from which Lacotte had to reference were some notes from the violin section and a critical review that was written after the originally re-choreographed production. O TALHO NA CMESMIE Os milênios pertencem a ordenações soberanas.

Teacher’s Handbook 1 Edited by: Carol Meeder – Director of Arts Education February 2006 Cover Photo: Jennifer Langenstein – Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre Principal Dancer Aaron Ingley – Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre Corps de Ballet Dancer Ric Evans – Photographer 2 Introduction Dear Educator, We have often thanked you, the academic community and educators of our children, for being partners with us in Arts Education. We have confirmed how the arts bring beauty, excitement, and insight into the experience of everyday living. Those of us who pursue the arts as the work of our lives would find the world a dark place without them. We have also seen, in a mirror image from the stage, how the arts bring light, joy, and sparkle into the eyes and the lives of children and adults in all walks of life. Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre strives not only to entertain but to demonstrate the significance and importance of presenting our art in the context of past history, present living, and vision for the future. In this quest we present traditional ballets based on classic stories revered for centuries, such as Coppelia and Cinderella; and contemporary ballets by artists who are living, working, and creating everyday, such as our jazz program Indigo In Motion and the premiers we have done to the music of Sting, Bruce Springsteen, and Paul Simon. In this way we propel our art into the future, creating new classics that subsequent generations will call traditional. It is necessary to see and experience both, past and present. It enhances our life and stirs new ideas. We have to experience where we came from in order to develop a clear vision of where we want to go.

©Photo: Sébastien Mathé/ONP The Sleeping Beauty > ballet 2013 new HD recorDing Ballet in three acts and a prologue based on the Filmed at Opéra national de Paris tale by Charles Perrault | Music by Pyotr Ilyich in December 2013 Tchaikovsky | Choreography and staging by Rudolf tV director François Roussillon Nureyev after Marius Petipa (Opéra national de running time 1x150’ Paris, 1989) | Musical direction: Fayçal Karoui The Sleeping Beauty Artistic Information synopsis The “Ballet of ballets” as Rudolf Nureyev described it, Sleeping Beauty remains one of the jewels in the heritage of dance. First performed in 1890 at the Mariinsky Theatre in Saint- Petersburg, the work combined the talents of choreographer Marius Petipa and composer Tchaikovsky. Inspired by Charles Perrault’s tale, they imagined a “fairy-tale ballet” in which dream and reality overlap and where fairies and godmothers, and the forces of Good and Evil fight over the fate of two young people. It was not until 1989 that Rudolf Nureyev restaged the work based on the original choreography for the Paris Opera Ballet. Readopting the original order and structure of the piece, passed on by generations of dancers, he devised a choreography of dazzling academic virtuosity, alternating between lavish ensembles and pas de deux. The sumptuous sets and costumes by Ezio Frigerio and Franca Squarciapino recreate the splendor of one of the most outstandingly accomplished masterpieces in the classical repertoire. perFormers Eleonora Abbagnato .....................................................Princess

  • Introduction
Introduction The World Ballet Festival Returns for Summer 2018 From the 14th World Ballet FestivalPhoto: Kiyonori Hasegawa For more than 40 years now, the most talented and renowned dancers have come to Tokyo from around the world to perform in the World Ballet Festival, which will once again be held this summer. When it was first introduced in 1976 under the leadership of Tadatsugu Sasaki, it was very rare for the star ballerinas of different companies or countries to share a stage. Its first edition caused an international sensation by bringing together three legends, Margot Fonteyn from the UK, Maya Plisetskaya from the Soviet Union and Alicia Alonso from Cuba. Since then stars such as Jorge Donn, Patrick Dupond, Sylvie Guillem, Alessandra Ferri, Manuel Legris and Vladimir Malakhov have become regular participants, bringing the audiences to a storm of excitement every time and inspiring them to watch and compare all the dancers perform. The circle of energy created between audiences and artists in this festival produces an atmosphere that motivates dancers to perform to the best of their abilities, and has resulted in many legendary performances. Featuring the world's leading dancers, all from different artistic backgrounds and representing a wide variety of repertoire and styles, the festival also offers an opportunity to observe an overview of today's ballet scene. While there are now many similar festivals, the quality of both artists and audiences at the World Ballet Festival continues to be amongst the highest in the world. Ballet is an art form that unites finely tuned bodies and minds with sophisticated powers of expression, to create a deep and lasting impression on the audience members.
