Publishing exceptional scholarly and literary texts about Guam and Micronesia. Catalog of Available Texts and Educational Resources About University of Guam Press The University of Guam Press (UOG Press) publishes an array of academic and literary books and journals with a specific focus on the unique history, environment, peoples, cultures, and languages of the islands that make up the Western Pacific region. The University of Guam Press strives to increase the availability of ex- ceptional scholarly and literary texts that can be used as learning resources about Guam and Micronesia for people and institutions in the region and throughout the world. UOG Press is an integral part of the Richard Flores Taitano Micronesian Area Re- search Center (MARC), which holds the most extensive repository of information about Guam and Micronesia. UOG Press extends the MARC’s mission of collect- ing, preserving, and providing access to reliable and accurate information about the peoples and cultures of the Western Pacific, thereby advancing scholarship and learning in and about the region. UOG Press has two major publishing components – MARC Publications and Taiguini Books. MARC Publications is dedicated to publishing research-based, evidence-driven academic texts pri- marily focused on historical and contemporary issues impacting the social, political, economic, and sustainable development of Western Pacific islands and communities. Taiguini Books publishes cultural and indigenous literature for adult and children, with the goal of capturing and preserving the eloquence and depth of the region’s dynamic storytelling tradition in written form. The University of Guam also publishes four journals: Micronesica (http://micronesica.org), a multidisciplinary, peer review journal encompassing natural science topics from Micronesia and the surrounding Pacific region, which is available for free online. Micronesian Educator (http://www.soeuog.x10.mx/micronesian_ed.html), which features scholarly articles from a wide range of educational research and related disciplines concerning education in Micronesia and is produced by the School of Education and distributed by UOG Press. Pacific Asia Inquiry (http://www.uog.edu/schools-and-colleges/college-of-liberal-arts-and-social-sciences/pub- lications/pacific-asia-inquiry-4), a peer reviewed on-line journal dedicated to showcasing works on the Pacific Asia Region and to advancing knowledge and understanding of this region. Storyboard: A Journal of Pacific Imagery (http://www.uog.edu/schools-and-colleges/college-of-liber- al-arts-and-social-sciences/publications/storyboard), which features quality poetry, fiction, non-fiction, and visual art and is produced by the Division of English and Applied Linguistics and distributed by UOG Press. Undergraduate Research Journal of Micronesia (www.uog.edu/uogpress/publications/urjm), a scholar-re- viewed annual online journal that features original research produced by undergraduate students focused on top- ics/issues related to Micronesia. Although he is met with obstacles along the way, Juan keeps trying until he becomes a talented sand sculptor. Chepchop Unai highlights the beauty and importance of intergenerational sharing in the CHamoru culture. The book features captivating illustrations of Juan and his family at the beach and the unique island- inspired sand sculptures he creates there. Chepchop Unai is written mainly in English, and utilizes CHamoru words and phrases throughout the story to help teach the language. Authors’ Bios: Born and raised on Guam, Cathy started writing as soon as she could grip a pencil. When she is not exploring worlds through books, she is traveling around the globe. Illustrator Bio: Neill Jordan Frianeza Catangay is a Filipino artist born and raised on Guam. Catangay is mainly a painter best known for his dark landscapes and creatures and occasional children’s book illustrations. Catangay graduated from the University of Guam with a bachelor’s degree in fine art and will be pursuing his master’s degree in fine art in the United States. Quinene Year of Publication: 2018 Cost: $15 Description: An Islander’s Voice, a collection of poems by Guam’s Poet Laureate Federick B. Quinene, offers a unique perspective on love, life, family, culture, and politics on Guam from the powerful voice of a proud islander. This collection is Mr. Quinene’s gift to the people of Guam –a small glimpse into the world of a humble man, and a true survivor. Authors’ Bios: Recognizing Mr. Quinene’s ability to make a difference with his poetry, former Governor Ricardo J. Bordallo officially declared him the Poet Laureate of his administration on August 4, 1986, stating, “Fred Quinene has been blessed with the gift of a poetic pen, and possesses the ability to write beautiful, lyrical sonnets … and this gift should not go unnoticed and is most certainly a source of pride for all of Guam.” Mr. Quinene was born 76 years ago in the middle of World War II and survived to live a long life. Despite battling cancer, he remains strong and dedicated to his love for his family and his gift of poetry. ISBN: 978-1-935198-23-4 Page Count: 107 Title: Kinalamten gi Pasifiku Compiled by: Ta Tuge’ Mo’na Illustrator: Cielo de los Reyes Year of Publication: 2018 Cost: $15 Description: Kinalamten Gi Pasifiku: Insights from Oceania is an anthology of prose, poetry and artwork featuring 40 contributors from across Oceania, who offer a contemporary and bold snapshot of life in the Pacific. The writings in Kinalamten Gi Pasifiku focus on modern perspectives in colonized Pacifica. Each work is a bonding between oceanic life and personal thought. In her Foreword to the anthology, Dr. Laura Torres Souder describes the collection as “speaking the unspeakable”. Souder explains that through their writing and art, the anthology’s contributors “dare to expose sublimated contractions and use their critical consciousness to heal wounded hearts.” Kinalamten Gi Pasifiku is the premier publication of Ta Tuge’ Mo’na, a Non-Profit Organization that supports literary communities in Guam and contributes to the development of a written literary tradition that expresses local and regional perspectives. Un Ha’åne yan si Ena uses common and simple CHamoru phrases and vocabulary ideal for helping adults and children incorporate the language in their everyday lives. Authors’ Bios: Simone Efigenia Perez Bollinger, familian Boño, lives in Piti. She enjoys working with plants, stories, the CHamoru language, and children. Illustrator Bio: Once upon a time there was a silly boy named Jack Lujan Bevacqua. He was doing his homework one day and wrote the word “books”. He drew a smiley face using the two Os as eyes. He grinned, and has been drawing ever since. From holding hands in church to going on hikes in the jungle, this story describes the important role grandparents play in the lives of i famagu’on-ta, our children. Authors’ Bios: Simone Efigenia Perez Bollinger, familian Boño, is a writer and educator whose curiosity has taken her around the world. Now back home on Guam, she enjoys reading and swimming with her two-year old daughter, Ena Ramone. A resident of Barrigada, Dana Bollinger has embarked on her first journey of writing a children’s book and is fostering the joy of reading in CHamoru to her two children, Amaya and Andrew. Illustrator Bio: For 20 years, Cielo de los Reyes has been teaching students at FB Leon Guerrero Middle School how to draw, paint, and grow an appreciation for art. She enjoys eco-travel, especially to the Philippines, and is a fan of the ancient craft of cloth-weaving. She serves as the President of the Agat Guamerica Lions Club, and has three children. Osborn Year of Publication: 2016 Cost: $15 Description: Si Pedro yan i Hilet Oru na Ko’ko’ (Pedro and the Golden Ko’Ko’) is an exciting tale of a young boy named Pedro from Malesso’, who is on a quest to capture the clever Golden Ko’ko’. The Golden Ko’ko’ only comes around every 100 years, and Pedro, determined to catch him, spends his days setting up traps along the Ko’ko’s path in southern Guam.
