Fearing for the boy's life, a zoo worker shot and killed Harambe. The incident was recorded on video and received broad international coverage and commentary, including controversy over the choice to kill Harambe. Syria By Rylie Swinford Most of you probably know about everything that has been going on in the area of Syria, all of the terrorists and all of that scary stuff. Many people are trapped there and can’t get out. Some people may have the opportunity to escape, but obstacles get in their way. Two of the biggest obstacles are younger children that can’t keep up and people who have disabilities, such as being in wheelchairs because there are many mountains and valleys. This is why it was almost a miracle that a man named Alan Mohammad and his sister, Gyan, ended up escaping Syria. Both siblings have muscular dystrophy, a hereditary disease that weakens muscles and degrades the muscles. This disease has put both siblings in wheelchairs. Alan is quoted saying, “Until now I cannot believe it….I was very afraid.” Alan’s friends are very surprised that the two siblings made it. The two siblings didn’t even think they would make it. Their journey began on a brutal trail from their home in Al-Hasakah. They were strapped to horses, wheelchair and all. They went from northeastern Syria to Iraq, then to Turkey, and on to Europe. The siblings were then smuggles on a boat that was going to Greece. They are now at a refugee camp in Greece along with many others families, adults, and children all in an unfamiliar place that they have to call their home. Even though the siblings are now in a relatively safe place, their long journey isn’t over yet.
