Roger Ebert This Message Came to Me from a Reader Named Peter Svensland In Memoriam 1942 – 2013 | ROGEREBERT..COM REVIEWS NEIGHBORS 2: SORORITY RISING | Glenn Kenny May 19, 2016 | The sequel to 2014’s comedy hit “Neighbors” is a good news/bad news proposition. As my low star rating suggests, for this reviewer it is mostly a very bad news proposition. But one does tire, at times, of possibly engendering reader hostility by Print Page unloading on a deeply mediocre popular/populist comedy. Like 14 So let’s look at the half- 0 glass-full, good news WATCH NOW side of things. If you enjoy Seth Rogen as a general rule, this movie, in which he reprises his role as put-upon wannabe-responsible husband and father Mac Radner, provides some of what could be considered satisfactory Rogen material: some rough verbal wit, a lot of weed jokes, the spectacle of the chunky comic actor with his shirt off, and a bit more of all that. Rose Byrne reprises her “Neighbors” role as Kelly, Mac’s refreshingly salty wife, and Rogen and Byrne display a comic chemistry, banter-wise, that’s not entirely without credibility. Zac Efron, also back as frat party boy Teddy, is reliably game and also frequently shirtless, which means something different and possibly exciting when you’re Zac Efron. The humor of the film is similarly raucous and vulgar to that of the original. So in the event that you're already a fan, this might hit the spot. The bad news is that, as movies go, “Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising” barely qualifies as one. It looks like it was edited through some kind of shredder. The movie’s premise is a gender-reversed iteration of the first film’s, e.g., the Radners, now with two-year-old child, have their domestic stability endangered by a neighboring not-fraternity-but-sorority. (Hence, the title.) Sounds simple, but there’s a lot more time expended in the setup of this switch than you might reasonably expect. Possibly because the filmmakers want to make some kind of mild political statement espousing feminism, or maybe for some other reason—like maybe they don’t know what the hell they’re doing. I say this because in all the throat-clearing of the exposition leading the formation of the party-friendly sorority called Kappa Nu, not a whole lot makes sense. Once the house next door to the Radners’ is rented, the lead sorority innovator Shelby (Chloe Grace Moretz) makes a near-complete and largely arbitrary transition from Feisty Outsider to Truculent Mean Girl. Because the movie just wouldn’t be what it wants to be without having the young actress peer out a window and sneer “It’s on.” The movie breaks down into a series of sketches, with Experiments In Outrageous Humor (small children interacting with sex toys, a highly unhygienic attack on the Radner house from the sorority, using a terribly specific choice of spongy weapon) taking extreme precedent over character development and narrative coherence. The scenario is so thin that the movie pretty much repeats the same “what are we gonna do?” scene at the sorority house less than ten minutes after the first one. This seems either more or less quizzical on learning that the movie has five credited screenwriters. converted by Web2PDFConvert.com WATCH NOW More Reviews and a Few Great Offers! • From Disney to Disaster: the Disney Corporation’S Involvement in the Creation of Celebrity Trainwrecks
From Disney to Disaster: The Disney Corporation’s Involvement in the Creation of Celebrity Trainwrecks BY Kelsey N. Reese Spring 2021 WMNST 492W: Senior Capstone Seminar Dr. Jill Wood Reese 2 INTRODUCTION The popularized phrase “celebrity trainwreck” has taken off in the last ten years, and the phrase actively evokes specified images (Doyle, 2017). These images usually depict young women hounded by paparazzi cameras that are most likely drunk or high and half naked after a wild night of partying (Doyle, 2017). These girls then become the emblem of celebrity, bad girl femininity (Doyle, 2017; Kiefer, 2016). The trainwreck is always a woman and is usually subject to extra attention in the limelight (Doyle, 2017). Trainwrecks are in demand; almost everything they do becomes front page news, especially if their actions are seen as scandalous, defamatory, or insane. The exponential growth of the internet in the early 2000s created new avenues of interest in celebrity life, including that of social media, gossip blogs, online tabloids, and collections of paparazzi snapshots (Hamad & Taylor, 2015; Mercer, 2013). What resulted was 24/7 media access into the trainwreck’s life and their long line of outrageous, commiserable actions (Doyle, 2017). Kristy Fairclough coined the term trainwreck in 2008 as a way to describe young, wild female celebrities who exemplify the ‘good girl gone bad’ image (Fairclough, 2008; Goodin-Smith, 2014). While the coining of the term is rather recent, the trainwreck image itself is not; in their book titled Trainwreck, Jude Ellison Doyle postulates that the trainwreck classification dates back to feminism’s first wave with Mary Wollstonecraft (Anand, 2018; Doyle, 2017).

  • The 48 Stars That People Like Less Than Anne Hathaway  by Nate Jones
The 48 Stars That People Like Less Than Anne Hathaway By Nate Jones Spend a few minutes reading blog comments, and you might assume that Anne Hathaway’s approval rating falls somewhere between that of Boko Haram and paper cuts — but you'd actually be completely wrong. According to E-Poll likability data we factored into Vulture's Most Valuable Stars list, the braying hordes of Hathaway haters are merely a very vocal minority. The numbers say that most people actually like her. Even more shocking? Who they like her more than. In calculating their E-Score Celebrity rankings, E-Poll asked people how much they like a particular celebrity on a six-point scale, which ranged from "like a lot" to "dislike a lot." The resulting Likability percentage is the number of respondents who indicated they either "like" Anne Hathaway or "like Anne Hathaway a lot." Hathaway's 2014 Likability percentage was 67 percent — up from 66 percent in 2013 — which doesn't quite make her Will Smith (85 percent), Sandra Bullock (83 percent), Jennifer Lawrence (76 percent), or even Liam Neeson (79 percent), but it does put her well above plenty of stars whose appeal has never been so furiously impugned on Twitter. Why? Well, why not? Anne Hathaway is a talented actress and seemingly a nice person. The objections to her boiled down to two main points: She tries too hard, and she's overexposed. But she's been absent from the screen since 2012'sLes Misérables, so it's hard to call her overexposed now. And trying too hard isn't the worst thing in the world, especially when you consider the alternative.

  • Killing Zac Efron, Literally
Killing Zac Efron, Literally By:Caitlyn Homolya On December 29, 2019, Zac Efron was rushed to the hospital in Brisbane, Australia after he caught a form of typhoid or similar bacterial infection. Efron was filming his new show, Killing Zac Efron, in Papua New Guinea when he caught this disease. Efron is now stable and out of the hospital after being in there for three weeks. Zac Efron, first known for the High School Musical movies playing Troy Bolton, is an actor most teenage girls love for his good looks and his singing. Makenna Dew is one of those teenage girls, “When I heard Zac Efron almost died, I almost started crying because he was my childhood.” Efron is known for so much more, with a net worth of around 24 million and has acted in over 200 movies. Efron has impacted many lives being an actor and is loved by many, so a lot of people were heartbroken to hear that Efron got sick and was hospitalized. Efron kept it quiet while he was in the hospital so he could heal in peace, and then after he was healthy and the typoid-like disease was out of him, he came out and said he was okay after speculation about him was spread. Efron was filming the show, Killing Zac Efron, so he was going to be off the grid for three weeks in the jungle with no luxuries. In any case, the show's title appeared to be worryingly close to the line as he wound up on a “life or death” helicopter trip to Australia after he was hit with this serious illness.
