3 The Last Cilcain Show?

Could this year see the last Cilcain Show? Our Chairman is stepping down after this year's show and several vital members of the committee, often having served for 10 years or more, have also indicated that this year will be their last. Yet new volunteers cannot be found to take over these vital and rewarding jobs.

Under the guidance of our present Chairman, the show has become increasingly successful, making over £10,000 for the church and com- munity last year. Thousands of people enjoy a great day out at the show which demonstrates the true spirit of our village. Surely there must be some younger people in our community willing to take up the challenge and make it even better?

If the Cilcain Show is important to you please contact one of the show’s officers listed opposite and find out how you could help our show continue into the future.

The Clwyd Retriever Club was formed in 1970 and is based at Gwysaney Hall near Mold, by kind permission of the late Capt. and Mrs Davies-Cooke. Now his son Richard and wife Sarah are continuing to support the Clwyd Retriever Club. We meet for training classes every week from April until the end of August. Classes range from Puppy and Beginner, where dogs are taught basic obedience, to stop and come to a whistle, and simple retrieves, to Classes for Novice and Open standard dogs and owners. We run Working tests, Novice and Open Trials and take part in interclub Competitions. We also run scurries and demonstrations at country fairs. We are grateful to the Community Council for allowing the Dog Show to be held on the Waen, where dogs are normally prohibited. Please help us to keep this Dog Show as an annual event by not allowing your dog to foul the field and surrounding areas. We realise that "accidents" happen, but would request that you clean up any mess your dog makes. Let us show everybody what responsible dog ownership means! An exercise area will be roped off. A supply of plastic bags and tissues will be available from the Stewards. Please bring water for your dog.

35 One of the highlights in the North Wales culinary food calendar will be returning in September.

Mold Food and Drink Festival will be held for the 13th year, bringing with it the very best exhibitors, cookery theatres, produce and leading names in the culinary world.

Attracting more than 13,000 visitors a year, the festival will be held on Mold’s New Street car park on September 15 and 16th.

Festival chairman John Les Tomos said: “Mold Food and Drink Festival is the perfect recipe of exhibitors, activities, music, and cookery demonstrations – something for everyone with a dusting of a little Mold magic.

“Once again we’ll be delivering a stellar line-up of chefs and experts. We’ll have outstanding produce, some new faces, and a welcome return for some of our favourites including the ever-popular children’s cookery school.”

The festival draws visitors from across the country with a packed programme of activities including masterclasses with well-known chefs.

To keep up to date with this year’s festival see www.moldfoodfestival.co.uk or follow on Facebook @moldfoodfestival or Twitter @moldfoodfest.
