Scheme details

2017-2018 works

Signing Works:

• Site 9 - A40, Wycombe Road, Studley Green – new bollards on central refuge, replace warning signs. • Site 10 - A40, West Wycombe Road near Mudds Bank Junction – direction signing upgrade. • Site 14 - A40 Oxford Road / Road - Direction sign upgrade • Site 16 - A40 Oxford Road, near Chalk Farm Road – Removal of unnecessary signs and cleaning existing.

Vegetation Clearance:

• Site 10 – A40, West Wycombe Road near Mudds Bank Junction • Site 11 – A40 West Wycombe Road, near George Road • Site 14 – A40 Oxford Road / Ibstone Road

Due date Completed within 2017-18 financial year Notes Signing and vegetation clearance work undertaken in 2017-18 prior to formal announcement of DfT funded safety scheme. Site 1 - Pedestal Roundabout

Improve pedestrian safety at crossing point on the A4010 (northern arm) of the Pedestal Roundabout. Due date This is anticipated October/November 2018 Site 2 - West Wycombe zebra crossing

Replacement of the flashing lighting units on zebra crossing to improve appearance. Due date Pending lead-in periods Nov 2018

Site 4 - West Wycombe, Chorley Road -signing works

Improved warning signs and bollards on A40 at bend on eastbound entry to West Wycombe. This is to increase driver awareness and appreciation of bend. Due date Programmed Jan 2019 Site 6/7 - Myze Farm and Chipps Hill signing works

Improved warning signs on A40 prior to junctions to increase driver awareness of junctions and turning farm traffic. Due date Programmed Nov 2018 Site 8 - Dashwood Hill footway siding out

To improve existing footway alongside the A40. Due date Programmed October 2018. Notes Location identified by Cllr Darren Hayday - footway in cutting in need of siding out and vegetation cutback. Site 8 - Dashwood Hill footway alternative route via Old Dashwood Hill

Initial assessment carried out Sept 2018. This is a potential scheme identified to provide pedestrians with an alternative route remote from the A40 with no additional distance, but significantly less traffic and lower speeds. Due date N/A Notes There appears to be initial merit in further investigation. There will be significant vegetation cut back to achieve footway. Part of the route may be unachievable due to level differences as carriageway is within small steep cutting (approx. 200m length). However, this section is on a straight. Remainder of route appears initial viable either through use of existing verge or carriageway width. Site 9 - additional footway works at junction

Footway works to improve route into Water End Road for school pedestrians to avoid walking within carriageway adjacent to junction triangle island. Consideration also to be given to coloured edge surface treatment as a formal footway is not achievable on approach to school due to narrow carriageway width. Due date N/A Site 10 - additional vegetation clearance at junction of Mudds Lank between A40 and layby

Additional vegetation clearance works on sections of the A40 including:

• Layby area between Mudds Bank layby and A40 (trees to remain, but low level vegetation to be cleared • Siding out of carriageway on southern side between Studley Green and Stokenchurch

Due date N/A Notes Layby Area Identified September 2018 following discussion between TfB Area Manager and Stokenchurch Parish Council, agreement made to remove vegetation to enable clear view into layby to prevent anti-social behaviour and improve visibility on approach to left turn into layby. This will improve safety within layby and also prevent hard braking where drivers cannot see clearly into layby on approach. Site 11 - crossing upgrade

Upgrade of signalised pedestrian crossings from old style pelican crossings to new Puffin Crossings, incorporating nearside pedestrian signal units, crossing sensors. This would also include other safety improvements such as widening of norther footway. Note the most westerly crossing in Stokenchurch is already a Puffin Crossing and therefore no further works proposed. Due date Anticipate Jan 2019 Site 12 - Marlow Road refuge and junction improvements

Provision of central refuge island and build-out of western corner of junction to improve pedestrian safety walking along A40. Due date Anticipated Construction 8th October 2018 - Start date under road closure Site 13 - crossing and lighting upgrade

Due date Anticipate Jan 2019 Site 14 - speed limit extension

Extension of 40mph speed limit along A40, Oxford Road (towards Dog Rescue Centre) on approach to Ibstone Road junction near M40. Aim to reduce speeds on approach to junction. Due date TRO Covered within 2018-19 Design Target Cost Pending feedback from will proceed to statutory consultation. Whole route between Stokenchurch and West Wycombe

Works includes:

• upgrade studs to 'click' studs for improved future maintenance • Section in cutting studs upgraded to 'solar' illuminated studs • upgrade lining within 60mph section to 'Life Line 200' for improved night time and wet weather visibility. • refresh Coloured High Friction Surfacing • introduce Coloured High Friction Surfacing on key points (West Wycombe bend, West Wycombe Zebra, Pedestal Roundabout approaches) • introduce coloured surface at key locations to highlight problem junctions.

Aims to improve safety along length of route through improved lining and stud specification and also enhanced skid resistance at critical sites. Due date Oct - Nov 2018 with remaining work by March 2019. Notes This excludes works already undertaken within vicinity of Site 10 (Stokenchurch to Studley Green) and also works undertaken by CMP Team on joint resealing through Studley Green. A number of sites would need to be complete after other work including:

• Site 1 Pedestal Roundabout - HFS and refresh • Site 5 Pending agreement of Speed Limit • Site 11 - Following Signals upgrade • Site 13 - Following Signals upgrade

Additional site - A40 joined with The Common Stokenchurch (LAF scheme) Footway improvement works adjacent to shops to improve route along A40 at junction with The Common. This involves removal of two parking spaces. Due date Programmed to start 01 Oct 2018
