Heads Up Dear Parents and Carers Finding the right words to sum up a year in the life of a school is difficult. Combining this with the knowledge that this will be my final such correspondence as I retire after a life in education and 11 years at Kingsweston makes it doubly so. This school - which is so much a part of the life of everyone who works here - has changed significantly. Together we have created a wonderful place to be. It’s taken time but throughout has been a fundamental constant in the form of a commitment to the children, to one another and to the community we serve. As long as we continue to celebrate diversity, innovation and imagination in the way we teach, we will be doing a good job. The challenges of austerity and in education demand leaders and governors who are driven by strong values and, as my time to move on arrives, I am truly delighted to be able to pass on the baton to such a strong leadership team who will be working with an exceptional governing body. Of course I’m not the only person experiencing the emotions associated with leaving school. We have both pupil and staff leavers, all of whom move on with our huge thanks and very best wishes. Neil

Governors’ area As we approach the end of another academic year, we not only look back on a successful period for the community, but also take this opportunity to reflect on its achievements over the last eleven years that Neil Galloway has been at its helm as Headteacher. It has been my pleasure to work with Neil during all that time and to witness his commitment to providing the best education for each individual pupil. So many have benefited from his dedication. Neil has been a passionate advocate of strong teamwork and as a result we have in place a first class staff to take the school forward. We will miss him, and my fellow governors and I wish him a well-deserved, long and happy retirement. He goes with our heartfelt thanks in the knowledge that he leaves Kingsweston in good hands under Jo Hill’s leadership. It is also an opportune time to thank my fellow governors for their support and all the staff for their hard work over the last year. The school would not be what it is without them all. Last but not least our special best wishes go to those pupils and staff who are leaving Kingsweston this term. I hope you will remember us with fondness. Philip Beveridge

working really hard this term and Kingsweston Centre @ Shirehampton we are very proud of how your Sapphire Class visited B&Q to buy bedding plants for our entrance pots. confidence has grown! We chose plants that were bright and colourful and made sure they were within our budget. Each pupil was in charge of paying for a plant. We planted them in the pots and put them outside for everyone to enjoy!

Well done Adriane. You have worked hard work throughout the year and are progressing well with your reading skills .

Forest School & Horticulture We have been loving the sunny weather this term in Forest School. There have been lots of opportunities to splash around in the hose while watering our vegetables! We celebrated the Summer Solstice by making dream catchers to hang in the trees. Pupils from Brightstowe picked and arranged flowers while Napier Miles primary classes have been making musical shakers. All classes have worked hard to harvest the vegetables that have grown and enjoyed tasting carrots, peas, beans and radishes straight from the garden!

Teaching and Learning Kingsweston Centre @ Oasis Academy Brightstowe On Monday 8th July Brightstowe had their annual Summer Fair and what a success it was! We had lots of students selling their business enterprise products which they had been working on all term. These ranged from student designer T-shirts, home made candles, cookies, muffins, bookmarks, bird cards.... the list goes on. One of our students also decided to do some car washing in the car park for their enterprise project with Mr Kulig’s support. Outside we also had face painting, the popular tombola, penalty shoot out, hot dog shack, a posh cafe serving cream teas and many more stalls offering fun games. Our Post 16 College students also joined us and had their own stall. The most popular event as always was ‘soak the staff’ which had pupils queuing around the playground for a turn!
