Careers Bulletin Welcome to the City Academy’s Careers Bulletin. This is a place where you can access support, resources, information and vacancies to help you on your Career Pathway. Year 11 career advice available every lunch time Career Pilot is a fantastic resource for all year groups and parents and can be used to gain knowledge on jobs, labour market information, how each subject links to careers and much more. There is also a parent zone as well with helpful videos and lots information about courses and local further education providers. Open Evenings and new course information Are you passionate about sport especially boxing? BTEC Level 3 Sports Coaching and Development (Boxing) in partnership with Bristol Rovers Community Trust. The course combines academic studies with a sporting experience like no other. This course is a full two-year educational programme for post 16’s, starting in September 2021. What is the course? This is a BTEC level 3 Sports Coaching and Development, which is equivalent to 3 A-levels. You will study 4 times a week at Bristol Rovers' Memorial Stadium where the education side of the course will take place, with the practical sessions taking place at Empire Boxing Gym Empire Fighting Chance The practical elements of the course provide the opportunity to train with the champions at the Empire Fighting Chance gym. Not only will you get the opportunity to develop your practical boxing skills, alongside some of the best coaches in the sport, but Empire have also come up with new and exciting ways to educate the young people on the course, areas you will qualify in are; • ABA level 1 in Boxing Coaching • Study and understand Empire's award-winning boxing programme • Empire Fighting Chance’s Strength and Conditioning course • Empire’s street wise with money AQA course • Understand how boxing referee’s & officials operate • Learn practical coaching skills alongside pro-boxing coaches What do I need to apply? 1. We are looking for year 11 and 12 boys and girls who have an interest in studying or a career sport. 2. A Minimum of 4 Level 4 Grades at GCSE (Maths and English are NOT mandatory) 3. Check out their web page for more details at WEARENCS.COM Up and Coming Events at City Academy Year 10 - Open to Options Do you know what you want to do when you leave school? What is Open to Options? • We will be running workshops to explore your Post 16 options with year 10 students. • There will be a variety of speakers from Colleges and Sixth Forms. • There will be expert speakers in apprenticeships and employers will be on hand to answer any of your questions. • The programme will be tailored to your job interests. How will it run? • You can come into school at 8:15am for the start of the guest speakers or you can grab some free breakfast in the venue between 8am and 8:15am. • The guest speakers will present between 8:20am and 8:55am in the venue. • You will need to sign up and commit to the sessions you choose. • The first session is on apprenticeships on the 28th April 2021. Fill out the survey which has been sent to your school email to register your interests, you can use your phone to fill this out. There are two fantastic workshops in May from our local further education providers • 19th of May – Kath Cooper from Post CLF Post 16 • 26th of May – Cristina Watson from City of Bristol College Please sign up with Miss Martin email Rachel.martinclf.uk Growing Space Photography Competition Bristol Education Partnership is launching a photography competition in collaboration with Bristol Photo Festival and the Soil Association. The theme is “Growing Spaces” and we are inviting students to submit their best image relating to this theme. The photograph might be taken at home, at school or out in the community. The aim is to showcase and celebrate the natural, growing world of flowers, vegetables, weeds, plants, trees - and even people. There will be three categories for entries – KS3, KS4 and KS5. Prizes will be awarded for each category and the best submissions will be displayed in an online exhibition hosted by Bristol Photo Festival. The top 10 images from each school will be sent in for each category and will be entered into the competition. They will be judged by a panel including a representative of Bristol Photo Festival, a local photographer, a representative from the Soil Association and a representative from BEP. Submissions should be sent in JPEG format to Miss Martin by 24th May 2021 and our school entries will be judged by a special TBC person.
