Dear Parishioners,

Palm Sunday A 2020 - April 5th

A Blessed to you! I hope that you are able to hold a palm branch in your hand this day, whether it be an old one from previous years or from a palm tree in your yard, or were able to pick up one from the church over the past few days. We wave the palm branches as a sign that our Blessed Lord is King, He is triumphing, and we recognize Him as Lord. Two thou- sand years ago, people in waved branches as our Lord Christ rode down the Mount of Olives into the city. A modern day comparison to waving the palm branch during Jesus’ time might be for us to clap, or to whistle or yell, or for a horn band to play music as one passed by. It was a way of recognizing people of outstanding achievement as we might view important figures in a parade. Palm Sunday has always been a special and memorable liturgy for me and so I hope you can par- ticipate in a Mass by viewing on television or on our website or Facebook page. As Christ rode down the mount, it was a time of rejoicing, but it was also a time of darkness on the horizon for Him. While noting the joy amidst the crowd, there was an air of darkness of what was to come. Jesus tells His Apostles that their faith will be tested and would end up being the proving ground. This Holy Week I encourage you to really spend time in God’s presence as if you were one of the original Apostles; so that we may go through what they did, in challenges, in testing, and in the joy that comes with Easter Sunday.

It is with understanding and sadness that the Diocese of Savannah announced today that Holy Week services and Easter Mass- es will not be celebrated publicly this year due to the Coronavirus health concerns. Here are a few lines from the statement:

"The public celebration of Holy Mass was suspended until April 5 with the hope that we could celebrate Holy Week and the Sacred Triduum with our people: unfortunately, we are unable to do this. The public celebration of Mass will continue to be suspended through Holy Week until notice is given that the faithful may again attend mass."
