Big 12-BIG EAST Battle Omaha on Wednesday. It is GU’s third game against a ranked opponent this season. • Jahvon Blair leads the team in scoring with 17.3 ppg, ranking fifth in the BIG EAST. He is tied for third in 3-pointers per game (2.8) and second in free throw percentage (86.4). • Qudus Wahab (11.8 ppg) and Jamorko Pickett (11.6 ppg) are also in double figures, while Pickett leads the conference in rebounding (8.5 rpg) and Wahab is third in blocks (2.3 bpg). As a team, Georgetown tops the BIG EAST in rebounding (42.9 rpg). • Creighton comes in with an 13-4 record overall, ranking 15th in the AP Poll and 12th in the Coaches’ Poll. The Bluejays are 9-3 in BIG EAST play, having won three straight. • They are scoring a league-best 80.2 ppg, while allowing 69.4 ppg to opponents. Creighton also leads the BIG EAST in field goal percentage (48.5). • Denzel Mahoney (15.2 ppg) leads four Bluejays in double figures. Marcus Zegarowski is scoring 14.9 ppg followed by Damien Jefferson (12.5) and Christian Bishop (11.0). • Bishop is atop the conference in field goal percentage (68.2), while Zegarowski is fifth in assists (4.4 apg) and leads the league in 3-pointers per game (2.9). GRAMBLING STATE (12/09/2000) AT MCDONOUGH ARENA. WITH GU’S PERFORMANCE AGAINST COPPIN STATE, THE HOYAS HAVE NOW SURPASSED 50 REBOUNDS NINE TIMES UNDER HEAD COACH PATRICK EWING AND HAD SIX GAMES WITH A REBOUNDING MARGIN OF AT LEAST +20. QUDUS WAHAB JUST MISSED OUT ON A TRIPLE-DOUBLE AGAINST ST. JOHN’S ON DECEMBER 13, FINISHING WITH A LINE OF 17 POINTS, 10 REBOUNDS AND NINE BLOCKS. THE NINE REJECTIONS WERE THE MOST BY A HOYA SINCE ALONZO MOURNING’S NINE BLOCKS AGAINST DELAWARE STATE ON DECEMBER 9, 1991. GEORGETOWN HAS BEEN HOT FROM DOWNTOWN THIS SEASON, HITTING 8.7 3-POINTERS PER GAME TO RANK THIRD IN THE BIG EAST. CLASSMATE JAMORKO PICKETT HAS DRAINED 18 TREYS THIS SEASON AND IS 11TH ALL-TIME AT GEORGETOWN WITH 151. THE HOYAS HAVE A PAIR OF GRADUATE TRANSFERS WHO ARE MAKING IMMEDIATE CONTRIBUTIONS. DONALD CAREY HAS STARTED ALL 12 GAMES AND IS FOURTH ON THE TEAM IN SCORING WITH 9.8 PPG. HE IS SHOOTING 42.9 PERCENT (24-56) FROM BEYOND THE ARC WHILE ALSO PULLING DOWN 3.9 RPG AND DISHING OUT 2.1 APG WHILE LEADING GU WITH 10 STEALS.
