The Hoyas are looking for their fifth-straight season-opening victory and to move to 4-0 under Head Coach Patrick Ewing. • Seniors Jahvon Blair (10.8 ppg) and Jamorko Pickett (10.2 ppg) are GU’s returning leading scorers, while Pickett (6.3 rpg) and sophomore Qudus Wahab (4.3 rpg) are Georgetown’s top returners in the frontcourt. • The Blue & Gray is coming off a 15-17 campaign during the 2019-20 season, which included four wins over ranked opponents. • UMBC finished with a 16-17 record last year, going 8-8 in the America East Conference and reaching the tournament’s semifinals for the third-straight season. • The Retrievers only lost two players to graduation, including leading scorer K.J. Jackson, and return six of their top seven minute earners. • Darnell Rogers returns after averaging 14.0 ppg in seven games before injury ended his season. THE CANADIAN LEFTY CURRENTLY RANKS 12TH ON GU’S CAREER 3-POINTERS LIST WITH 144 MADE FROM BEYOND THE ARC. HIS 62 TREYS LAST YEAR ARE TIED FOR 12TH IN A SINGLE SEASON ON THE HILLTOP. SENIOR JAMORKO PICKETT IS COMING OFF HIS BEST SEASON IN A HOYA UNIFORM AFTER AVERAGING 10.2 PPG AND 6.3 RPG TO RANK FOURTH AND SECOND, RESPECTIVELY, ON THE TEAM. HE WAS ALSO SECOND ON THE SQUAD WITH 41 MADE 3-POINTERS. IN BIG EAST PLAY, HE INCREASED HIS OUTPUT TO 11.3 PPG AND 6.6 RPG, WHILE AVERAGING MORE THAN 34 MPG. UMBC: SERIES INFO OVERVIEW GAME • The Hoyas are 3-0 all-time against the Retrievers, including a win in the first round of the 2008 NCAA Tournament. The two teams met at Capital One Arena during the 2019-20 season, with the Hoyas coming away with an 81-55 victory. • Jahvon Blair finished with 15 points, hitting a trio of 3-pointers, and Jamorko Pickett had 12 points.     CL ASSIC In 2016 the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament made history with the introduction of the Coach John McLendon Classic. Played in the first round of the CIT, the winner received a championship trophy and advanced to the second round of the CIT. The idea of playing for a trophy created some real excitement and it was the first time in NCAA Division I Basketball history that a “Classic” has been part of a postseason tournament. The game pays tribute to Coach McLendon and the legacy of some of the great pioneers of the game, including Clarence “Big House” Gaines and Ben Jobe. It’s a showcase for Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference and the Southwestern Athletic Conference and a celebration of Historically Black College Basketball. "When you bring up the name Coach John McLendon you are speaking about someone who learned the game of basketball from its founder, Dr. James Naismith. Coach McLendon was able to add a great deal to the game of basketball, including the up-tempo style of play, which was first credited to him. More importantly he was able to break down color barriers and continue to have a profound effect on those he reached.
