1. Performance and availability monitoring (Enterprise)
Pandora FMS provides a complete solution because of its for performance & availability, monitoring the key resources across the infrastructure, to ensure that all devices are ready to respond to the end-user’s requests.
It is possible to run these tests in the software agent remotely or from Pandora FMS Server, which eliminates the risk associated with running monitoring software on target systems.
Pandora FMS specific tests and features include:

2. Headless remote monitoring: Satellite Server (Enterprise)

3. Fault and event management
Pandora FMS’s event system keeps a log of everything that’s happened. When a service or a host goes down, or it comes up again, when an alert is fired, when new hosts are discovered at the network, etc.
It’s possible to search for specific events... All this can be done from the Web Console, where events can also be exported to a CSV file, or be linked to feed readers, thanks to the RSS feed utility included.

The functionality of these events allows them to be validated or marked as “under progress” by an operator. This way any task taking place there can be seen, leaving a trace of comments about it. Besides, events are associated to a group of tags or categories, which allow Pandora FMS to perform searches and create semantical
4. Customizable visual console
Pandora FMS allows each individual user to define their own customized view of the monitoring process. This a customization-defined graph view, based on a spacial representation, selected items, represented status, data, graphs, or other visual console status. It always scales the most critical events.

This general functionality, combined with weight-based service monitoring, is a flexible way to monitor groups of elements, based on the margins established by the user. This differs from “specific” monitoring of individual elements because it allows total management over “groups”, with a certain error margin, which reacts based on the continuous failure accumulation until the established treshold is reached.
The need to monitor services as something “abstract” appears when the following question is asked: “What happens when an element on its own is not considered critical?”. For example, if one out of the twenty web servers monitored fails. We may not want to be alerted under this circumstance, because the truth is that out of twenty servers, it’s normal for one or two to fail ocassionally.
One or two failed nodes in the system shouldn’t be a reason for alert (as a matter of fact, just imagine having to wake someone up every time an Apache server went down). This service is supposed to be redundant, so we should have a certain margin established, as to avoid headaches. The system should be smart enough to know that only one fallen server isn’t an issue, but when that number grows to five (let’s suppose) it should begin to trouble us; and certainly 10 dropped servers should be reason to get anyone out of bed.

5. Virtualization and Cloud Computing (Enterprise)
The Enterprise version of Pandora FMS has a specific plugin (exclusive to enterprise users) which allows automativ detection of VM on VMWare 4.X infrastructure, using a centralized point (VCenter) to gather all the information available, using only the VMWare API. There are also OpenSource plugins available for VirtualBox, Xen, KVM and EC2.

6. Service monitoring (Enterprise)
Unlike “specific” monitoring, where tangible values are collected, service monitoring with Pandora FMS is intented for monitoring “groups” of elements of different nature, with some established “tresholds” for error. This allows a service map and weight based SLA; 100% visual and in Real Time.
7. High availability
Pandora FMS has a structure based on multiple servers (Data Server, Plugin Server, Network Server, etc.), a web console and a Database. It also has redundancy over all its items. Any amount of servers or consoles can be created, as well as a MySQL cluster for the Database. This is included among the features of the Open Source version as well. Agents also incorporate mechanisms to post on multiple servers, in case one fails.

8. Monitoring delegation to secondary servers (Enterprise)
The Export Server provides a data escalation feature, making it possible to have a completely distributed installation in the same building, office, or in totally different countries. Different Pandora FMS installations connect to an established Central Pandora FMS, which will collect and centralize the information. The Export Server is only available as an Enterprise Version feature.

9. Centralized management using monitoring policies (Enterprise)
This feature is oriented toward companies that manage a large number of agents. The policy system allows the user to massively distribute modules and alerts to groups of agents. Along with the Metaconsole, it allows for a fast, efficient, and simultaneous management over thousands of agents.
Policies allow the user to define exceptions, alerts, or to distribute file collections that contain plugins onto agents, so everything may be managed centrally and globally, mainly through policy use.

10. High scalability / Metaconsole (Enterprise)
Pandora FMS has a Metaconsole feature: a web environment that works as an independent installation manager that will coordinate all 3rd party installations onto single-management server farms. This allows Pandora FMS to achieve an almost unlimited scalability, managing different independent installations from a single point, in a federated and independent system.

11. Recommended capacity limit per server (Enterprise)
Pandora FMS has been designed to work in company environments: this means groups of systems that can grow continuously and progressively. Our engineers have estimated a management average of 2000 agents per server (in the Open Source version it can be reduced to 1000 agents per server), with an estimated 25 modules per agent; all executing tasks every five minutes. Using the Metaconsole in combination with the Export Server, these numbers can be expanded with the inclusion of more servers, or by trying to assign more agents onto a single server (although the latter choice requires very fine customizing).
We have clients with huge environments where Pandora is used with different methods and purposes. For example, we have a cliente with 6.000 agents, a four server setup, and a metaconsole. 12. Log colection

13. Automated certified updates (Enterprise)
Update manager allows the administrator to download updates from the console easily and automatically. These patches can be created “on demand” by our support team, so that the client will have a customized solution to his or her problem in just a matter of hours. The Open Source version users have an equivalent system, but it counts on unrevised updates also made by the support team.

14. Geolocation GIS
Pandora FMS can provide a lot of different information about locations and interactive maps which show agents’ positions. It can also show a tracking procedure of every agent’s travel along time through reverse geolocation, that generates coordinates which are later translated into addresses.
15. Event correlation system (Enterprise)
Ever since version 4.0, Pandora FMS incorporates an event correlation system, and produce alerts or new events based on that. This system allows us to define logical rules between these system events, based on many fields such as tags, status, priority, value, group, source agents, etc. Aside from this, all these rules are applied over an established period of time. This system can “filter out” false positives, event storms, and determine the source of a problem in a clearer more automatized manner.

16. Historic database for long-term data storage (Enterprise)
Pandora FMS Enterprise version includes support for an additional database to store all seldomly used data (i.e. data older than one month). This data can be browsed transparently when needed, allowing fast and smooth system data processing in “real time” and, on the other hand, allows you to store more data, for a longer time.
17. API Library for 3rd party product integration
Pandora FMS’s Externa Web API is used by performing HTTP/HTTPS remote calls (REST API) on the designated file /include/API.php.
The process involves a call to the formatted parameters in order to obtain a value or list of values that your application will use. Currently ther are 21 defined methods to obtain or write information. The REST API includes an optional credentials system which restricts access to some data, depending on the user. All of Pandora FMS supports HTTPS protocol.
18. Centralized file distribution system (Enterprise)
A file collection is a set of files (scripts and/or executables) which are copied automatically onto a specific folder within the (Windows or Unix) agent. File collections allow these files to propagate within the established policies, in such a way they can be used by a group or by specific agents by only implementing a script “package”, and the modules which use them.
19. CLI Management
Pandora FMS can be run and managed by using your system’s command line. The CLI (Command Line Interface) in Pandora FMS is used to make command line calls (such as ‘pandora_manage’). This method is especially useful to integrate 3rd party applications with Pandora FMS, using automated tasks. Basically it consists of a call with parsed parameters to complete a action such as creating or deleting agents, modules, or users, amongst other items.

20. LDAP/AD Authentication (Enterprise)
Pandora FMS has its own user system, stored in its database, but you have the choice of using Active Directory or LDAP to authenticate against remote systems, keeping the relevant data regarding Pandora rights and roles, in its own database. Pandora FMS has got an authentication API so it can be extended to proprietary mechanisms, implemented by the user itself.
21. Synthetic modules (Enterprise)
Synthetic modules are used to generate new data from existing data, using arithmetical operations or average values. This is useful for: calculating the total throughput of a switch, adding the traffic of all its interfaces, the number of total sales by adding the average sales value of each franchise, or the average temperature of a room from the temperature value in all its points.

AGENT TECHNOLOGY
1. Multiplataform agents
There are software agents available for all main operating systems (Windows, Linux, AIX, HP-UX, Solaris, BSD, and Mac OS): they’re basically small sized agents that provide basic information about the system on which they’re installed (CPU, memory usage, disc usage, command outputs, etc.).
There are also hardware agents that monitor temperature, humidity, smoke, gas, floods, and any device that is suffering from dry contact.
2. Remote agent management (Enterprise)
Since Pandora FMS 3.1 Enterprise version was released you can modify the configuration of any installed Agent from the Web Console. This allows the user to add or remove modules from the Agent, change the Pandora FMS server’s IP Address, its interval, connection port, and any other of the Agent’s configuration options. pandorafms.com 21 FUNCIONALIDADESAGENT PANDORATECHNOLOGY FMS 5.1
3. Embedded agents for Android
Pandora FMS has developed a specific agent for embedded devices, created with Posix C and aimed at devices with very little RAM capacity. It can work with all types of processors (ARM, VIA, etc.). These kinds of agents should be able to run on any Linux-embedded device. Pandora FMS also has a specific agent for Android OS phones: Pandroid
This agent reports GPS information to the GIS system on Pandora FMS and also return battery levels, compass information -among other sensor informations, such as proximity information. In the future, this agent could be a platform to send centralized information from mobile devices.
4. Conditioned module execution
This feature allows acting from agents immediately without having to wait to manage the issue from the console. It can also avoid certain checks when executing specific situations like a backup, when running on HA systems, etc.
5. Remote or Agent reliant inventory
We’ve introduced a new system and service inventory which will act as a system inventory, showing the monitored systems’ software and hardware. It’s possible to choose whether agent-less or agent-based configurations retrieve the data.

6. Delegated agents: Broker mode and Proxy mode
This a special work method for the Agent, which allows it to work in different complex architectures, operating over a single physical Agent and deploying remote monitoring from that Agent. This results in real multi-Agent monitoring, which are monitored and managed from a single system with the software agent installed. This Agent is managed like a normal one, but behaving as if it were containing other agents.
Our Tentacle protocol supports the use of proxies (in HTTP/Connect mode) in a way that other agents can connect directly to the server using a standard proxy. In the same way, agents may be configured so they can act as intermediate servers (known as ‘Drone Mode’), in this way they can be used to centralize communications with the destined server or with another proxy. This system also allows file collection and remote management configuration.

COMMUNICATION AND NETWORKING
1. Network topology detection and autodiscovery (Enterprise)
Pandora FMS is capable of recognizing and periodically detecting new systems; also detecting its operating system as well as its relations with other nodes in the network on both a network and link level (by exploring ARP tables using SNMP). This means that Pandora can explore a 1000 node network and draw it connecting the interface of your routers and your switches together in less than an hour.
2. IPAM: IP address management
With the IPAM extension we can manage, discover, and obtain events on changes in a subnet host. We’ll be able to know if a given IP address (IPv4 or IPv6) has changed its status (through ping response) or hostname (using DNS). We’ll also be able to detect its Operating System and link an IP address to a Pandora FMS agent, adding this IP address to the agent’s assigned IP address

3. Dynamic network navigable maps (ENTERPRISE)
This feature has been almost rewritten from scratch. Now, we can view each host’s interfaces and detect new systems on the map (Group or IP based). This new map is 100% manageable through the graphic user interface and allows you to manually configure relationships between interfaces, hosts and fictional forwarding points to other maps.
4. IPV6 Support
This version includes full support for TCP, ICMP and SNMP protocols.
5. SNMP Monitoring
SNMP is an UDP-based network protocol. It’s mostly used for network management systems to monitor network-attached devices during conditions that warrant the administrator’s attention. Pandora FMS can monitor any device configured with SNMP protocol, all directly from the Pandora FMS Network Server.

6. SNMP Trap Monitoring (Enterprise)
Pandora FMS has a Trap console that shows SNMP events that have been received by Pandora FMS’s server, showing varied information on the event: status, source OID, associated agents, date and time, associated alerts,etc. Alerts can be configured independently for each trap, in both a simple way or by even using regular expressions over the traps. All of these features are also available to the Open Source version, but the Enterprise version counts on some extra features:
• MIB loader to define traps • Possibility to establish an alias to the user created trap • Trap forwarding to an agent (to a specific module), in order to visualize it as a text type module. • SNMP filters prior to trap processing
7. WMI Monitoring
Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) (or Windows Management Interface) is a set of extensions for the Windows Driver Model that provides an operating system interface through which the instrumented components provide information and notifications. Pandora FMS can monitor any Windows System SNMP protocol directly from the Pandora FMS WMI Server or using the WMI module in Windows Agent.

8. Transactional advanced web Monitoring (Enterprise)
Pandora FMS Enterprise is capable of monitoring Web applications, supervising availability, total navigation time, etc. Pandora FMS’s transactional Web monitoring engine, based on the Goliath project, allows the user to perform complex web checks such as authenticating and filling a form, detecting content changes, saving sessions, etc.
These processes are carried out within a centralized web interface. It also allows the user to implement proxies, authenticate HTTP, parse content, measure time totally and partially, download content, and, of course, perform availability checks.
Pandora FMS supports navigation from remote unattended probes, using any internet browser (Chrome, Firefox, IE, etc.), including Flash Java and other online plugins.
9. High speed ICMP and SNMP exploration (Enterprise)
Since the release of version 4.0, Pandora FMS includes a new “Enterprise Network Server” which performs the same tasks the Open Source server does, but up to 50 times faster by using specific tools for each test and organizing the checks into multi-thread blocks, which provides an efficient management in systems that hold thousands of ICMP and/or SNMP checks.

10. Netflow (Open Source)
Pandora FMS is able to monitor IP traffic using the NetFlow protocol. It displays general patterns and traffic data that are useful for real-time reporting on network usage, tables, statistics and graphs.
11. Configuration change management
With Pandora FMS 5.1 you can detect a configuration change in your router/switches and get a notification. You can also view the changes between both configurations using a visual “diffview”.

REPORTING AND USER INTERFACE
1. SLA and reporting
Pandora FMS can create HTML, PDF and XML reports for any monitored element. Data, such as graphs, SLAs, metrics, events, etc., can be added to these reports. Reports are created for a configurable time frame, that goes from an hour up to six months.
Pandora FMS SLA reports allow us to define the level of agreement (%) existing per parameter, defining valid operation ranges. This allows us to define combined metrics with many values to determine the level of agreement over a set of parameters in a predefined time span.
2. Fine grane ACL system (Enterprise)
The Enterprise ACL system allows the administrator to configure the sections of the Operation and Administration menus that each user can see. This way it becomes possible to completely customize the views offered to every user group, restricting operations even to tool administrators.
3. ITIL v3 Metrics

4. Role-based Access control levels
Pandora FMS has an user role and a permission system, that allows defining new users with different permissions over the different monitoring groups. This way, an user could be the Accounting System administrator of the, having only permission to view events in the Human Resource group. This OpenSource system is complemented with ACL Enterprise system.
5. Skins system (Enterprise)
Pandora FMS Enterprise version allows us to design our own interface -per user group- so the view can be fully customized: colors, icons, layout, logos, etc.
6. 100% web, multiclient ready for SaaS
Pandora FMS’s architecture and design has been oriented to serve different clients with the same infrastructure. It is multi-client (each user sees only his elements). Since it is 100% Web-based, it allows any remote client to access the view and report management.

7. Integration of Integria IMS incidents system

This OpenSource system, allows us to program many tasks such as: automatic email notifications, work group definitions, attachment uploads, SLA notifications and operative role separations. You will be able to use Pandora FMS interface to work directly over Integria IMS.

8. Custom reports (Enterprise)
Now it’s possible to change the report logos and add a first page, header, footer and an index in the reports. With Pandora FMS, in its Enterprise version, it’s possible to create reports in HTML, PDF and XML formats, as well as send them to an email address on the desired date. Besides, reports can be recurrent and sent periodically every set amount of time (daily, weekly, every six months, yearly, etc.).
In the Enterprise reports, the first page can be customized using a WYSIWYG editor, with automatic content indexes, custom fonts (including non Latin characters, like Japanese, Arabic...) and of course, different Wizards can be used to provide an easier and faster management.
9. 3rd Party Product Integration API Library
The external API of Pandora FMS is used through remote HTTP calls to the /include/ API. php file. This method has been determined by Pandora FMS to integrate with 3rd party applications.
