In November 1925 the Bradgate Estate was sold in 227 lots by direction of Mrs. K.H.V. Grey. The estate was situate in the Parishes of , , Ulverscroft, , Anstey, Cropston and Mountsorrel. It covered 6,100 acres extending from near the City Boundary of Leicester across four miles of forest country.

It formerly belonged to the Seventh Earl of Stamford and Warrington and included the Country Mansion known as Bradgate House, 26 dairy corn and forest farms. The villages of Newtown Linford and Groby. The Groby granite quarries and the fully licensed house The Bradgate Hotel. Many Forest sites and valuable mineral areas.

The sale took place between the 17 to 19th November 1925 at The Bell Hotel Humberstone Gate Leicester (now part of the Haymarket shopping complex). The Auctioneers being Hampton and Sons in conjunction with Warner, Sheppard and Wade and P L Kirby. Times 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. each day.
